Former CIA Director: Democrats Shouldn't Boycott Benghazi Select Committee

As we continue to wait on a decision from House Democrats about whether or not they'll be participating in the newly formed Benghazi select committee, former Secretary of Defense and CIA Director Leon Panetta has some advice: don't boycott. Why? Because the American people still have a lot of unanswered questions about what happened the night of September 11, 2012 when four Americans were murdered. Former CIA Deputy Director Michael Morrell sees the select committee in the same way. More from Jim Geraghty:

Panetta and Morell, noting the attack has been subject to many investigations already, said they welcome the latest one in the House.

“If you look at the polling numbers a not insignificant percentage of the American people still have questions,” Morell said.

Morell, who said he already has testified four times about Benghazi, said he is 100 percent confident the upcoming investigation will show that allegations “the intelligence community politicized its analysis” are false.

Immediately after the attack and in the fallout since, the White House has repeatedly blamed the intelligence community for failures leading up to the attack and changes in talking points after to the attack. The select committee will hopefully make clear how exactly the CIA played a roll and may prove the White House has been inappropriately using and falsely blaming the agency to cover bad decisions made by the State Department and people close to the president. Like the American people, Panetta and Morell want to clear the air and Democrats should help get to that point. Whether they'll actively participate is up to Nancy Pelosi, who has hinted she won't be putting anyone on the committee to help with the investigation.
