After Spending Easter With US Troops in South Korea, VP Pence Visits DMZ

Vice President Mike Pence's first stop on a 10-day Asia-Pacific trip was Seoul, South Korea, where he celebrated Easter with US troops, then made an unannounced visit to the DMZ early Monday morning.

Pence called North Korea's failed missile launch a "provocation" at a dinner Sunday night:

"This morning's provocation from the North is just the latest reminder of the risks each one of you face each and every day in the defense of the freedom of the people of South Korea and the defense of America in this part of the world.

"Our commitment to this historic alliance with the courageous people of South Korea has never been stronger, and with your help and God's help, freedom will ever prevail on this peninsula.”

Monday morning Pence arrived at Camp Bonifas, near the DMZ, and will join Army Gen. Vincent Brooks, commander of U.S. Forces Korea, in a motorcade to the DMZ.

Pence has meetings scheduled with South Korea's acting president and the speaker of the national legislature, and will visit Japan, Indonesia and Australia before returning to the United States.
