Axelrod Slams Dick Cheney

David Axelrod, Barack Obama
's version of Karl Rove, had harsh words for Dick Cheney over his recent interview with Politico, saying Cheney was "irresponsible":

“The vice president seems to think it’s a zero-sum game. I think that’s one of the things that was on the ballot last November. It was decided. Apparently the vice president is having a hard time dealing with … the verdict of the American people. I will say this: President Bush could not have been more generous in the transition, in every conceivable way. And when he left, he said, ‘I’m rootin’ for you guys, and I hope you do well.’ … Apparently the memo didn’t go down the line.”
In an air of transparency Barack Obama and his staff promised (and then broke), we're to believe and just take for granted Bush is "rootin" for these guys? Right. When they spent the last year saying President Bush was everything BUT the Devil (and some didn't fall short even on that)  we're to belive they are telling the truth now...especially when they haven't been telling the truth the three weeks in office.

But importantly, do we forget gaffe machine Joe Biden didn't say similar words BEFORE the election day:
“Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. Remember, I said it standing here, if you don’t remember anything else I said. Watch, we’re going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy.”
"He’s going to have to make some really tough - I don’t know what the decision’s going to be, but I promise you it will occur. As a student of history and having served with seven presidents, I guarantee you it’s going to happen.”

How is this different from what Vice President Cheney said:
“I think there’s a high probability of such an attempt. Whether or not they can pull it off depends whether or not we keep in place policies that have allowed us to defeat all further attempts, since 9/11, to launch mass-casualty attacks against the United States.”
or from the leading paragraph from Politico:
"Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed."
So is the Politico irresponsible Mr. Axelrod? And was it irresponsible for Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton to criticize President Bush the last eight years?
