We're Rolling Our Eyes at China's Response to WHO Funding Cut

President Trump announced at the White House on Tuesday that the U.S. would be cutting funding to the World Health Organization for its role in covering up for China during the coronavirus pandemic. The WHO, which was created for "the attainment by all peoples of the highest possible level of health," forgot all about its mission when it decided to take the CCP at its word and ignore the warning signs about the deadly virus that originated in Wuhan. Trump spent a large chunk of his remarks castigating the wayward organization.

"I am instructing my administration to halt funding of the World Health Organization while a review is conducted to assess the World Health Organization's role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus," he announced.

He added that WHO seems to be "very China-centric."

As expected, Chinese officials are displeased with the president's decision.

The move "weakens the WHO's capabilities and harms international cooperation," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian told reporters on Wednesday. Zhao is the official who accused the U.S. Army of introducing COVID-19 to make Beijing look bad.

"At present, the global pandemic situation is grim and is at a critical moment," he added. "We urge the U.S. to fulfill its responsibilities and obligations, and support WHO to lead the international combat against the pandemic.”

But most other people knew that the WHO had it coming, particularly after they cast doubt on the potential for human-to-human transmission of the virus, despite research to the contrary and a warning from Taiwan.

"Rather than focus on the real danger to world health, Tedros and WHO participated in a political cover-up for Beijing, including the marginalizing of Taiwan rather than pay attention to their input," Hot Air's Ed Morrissey recaps.

China lied about the virus from the start, destroying lab work and failing to get the word out until six days after officials realized they were dealing with a pandemic. But according to some U.S. senators, China did nothing wrong.

Other world leaders like Japan see right through the Chinese propaganda and suggested WHO change its name to CHO.

To support U.S. funding again for WHO, critics at the very least want the resignation of WHO Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. It's not the first time he's been accused of a dangerous cover-up.
