Clinton Global Initiative To Be 'Discontinued'

Following Hillary Clinton's loss in the 2016 election, the Clinton Global Initiative, an arm of The Clinton Foundation, is closing. The foundation was forced to lay off CGI's 22 employees last week.

The Clinton Foundation issued a WARN filing with the New York Department of Labor, saying that 22 CGI employees will lose their jobs due to the “discontinuation of the Clinton Global Initative.” This has reportedly become the subject of a significant dispute within the Foundation in terms of how the layoffs ought to be handled.

The Clinton Foundation tainted Clinton's campaign last year with conflicts of interest. Reports indicated, for instance, that foundation donors were awarded special State Department privileges during Clinton's tenure as secretary of state.

Because of the controversy, former President Bill Clinton indicated that he would step down from the Clinton Foundation board if his wife was elected. Foreign donors also reportedly backed out of their annual contributions.

Author and filmmaker Dinesh D'Souza said that latter point was pretty telling.

The Clinton Foundation as a whole will continue to operate.
