NBC Asks Kaine Why Hillary Was 'Scooping Up Money' From Fundraisers While Trump Visited Mexico

Hillary Clinton and her campaign criticized Donald Trump for visiting Mexico on Wednesday, scoffing that nothing he does can improve his standing in the Hispanic community. Yet, some in the media are pointing out the poor optics of Trump actually making the effort to travel across the border and meet with the leadership there, while Clinton is busy benefiting off fundraisers. NBC's Savannah Guthrie questioned Clinton's running mate Tim Kaine about the hypocrisy on "Today" Thursday morning.

“If you look at the side-by-side of this week, Donald Trump went to Mexico,” Guthrie said. “He sat down. He had a dignified meeting with a foreign leader. Hillary Clinton has spent most of this week scooping up money in the Hamptons for fundraisers. Doesn’t Trump come out on top on that?”

Not so, Kaine insisted, noting, like Hillary for America Chair John Podesta, that Trump "choked" during his meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto by reportedly not even mentioning his plan to build a wall along the border.
