Senators Opposing TARP Money for Autos

Seven senators sent a letter to President Bush this afternoon asking him not to authorize TARP money be used to bailout fledgling automakers.

"According to news reports your Administration is considering providing TARP funds to automakers without requiring the UAW and automakers to make significant reforms. Absent such restructuring, we do not believe any amount of money will succeed in saving these companies."

Those senators signing the letter were:

Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina)
Jeff Sessions (R-Alabama)
John Ensign (R-Nevada)
Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma)
John Cornyn (R-Texas)
Mike Enzi (R-Wyoming)
Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia)
