Hart shared the news with PEOPLE magazine, saying that while she recognizes that Johnson is a long shot, she hopes she can inform people about how there's another option besides Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump. Hart also said that she appreciates Johnson's past experience as governor of New Mexico.

The actress tells PEOPLE Now that she's joined Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson's presidential campaign as the Connecticut Chairperson.

"I want to break away from this two-party system and I think it's important for people to know that there's another candidate out there who really toes the line between Democrat and Republican," says Hart, who has a home in Connecticut. "I mean he's Libertarian. But socially he's liberal, but fiscally conservative."

In 2012, Hart caused quite a stir when she came out in support of Republican Mitt Romney.
