Running Scared

Don Surber notes that the President -- afraid to cede the GOP even one news cycle in the wake of the Iowa caucuses -- is flying off to Shaker Heights, Ohio tomorrow to proffer some "economic remarks."

One wonders whether the news outlets who have heavily hyped the Occupy Wall Street protests will note that Shaker Heights is an enclave of the 1%.

More significantly, let's hope the RNC is on its game.  It would be interesting to contrast President Obama's oratorical promises, assurance and braggadocio from his 2009 visit to Shaker Heights with the sorry aftermath of his policies two-and-a-half years later.

In fact, it would be worthwhile to do that with every city the President visits as part of his reelection campaign; one suspects he will cherry-pick the more prosperous parts of the swing states (or perhaps it's just coincidence that Shaker Heights is the ONLY community in Cuyahoga County to see an increase in home prices, which otherwise remain below 2007 levels) . . .

Why not point that out, by comparing where he's visiting to the state (and the state of the nation) as a whole?  It's also worth noting that Ohio's poverty rate is the highest it's been in the last 30 years -- and that Cleveland (of which Shaker Heights is a suburb) is one of the highest areas of unemployment in the state.  Shouldn't the President be going there to offer those people some "hope" for "change"?
