Jerry Sandusky Free on $250k Bail

Former Penn State football coach Jerry Sandusky was released from prison on $250,000 bail today after spending the night in jail on new sexual abuse charges filed against him.

Through his attorney Joe Amendola, Sandusky posted $200,000 worth of real estate and a certified check of $50,000 from his wife Dorothy "Dottie" Sandusky to secure his release. He was arrested Wednesday on 10 additional charges of molesting children, stemming from the testimony of two new alleged victims who say they were assaulted by Sandusky years ago.

A Centre County, Pa., judge rejected prosecutors' request for a bail amount of $1 million, which the judge reduced to $250,000. But the judge did order Sandusky to wear an electronic monitoring device and to not enter Penn State's campus.

Sandusky was held in quarantine during his night in prison and would not have been released into the general population of the prison until after 48 hours, according to Edward DeSabato, the jail's warden.

The new allegations bring the total charges against Sandusky to 50 counts involving the abuse of 10 children. He will appear for a preliminary hearing on Tuesday, at which all of his alleged accusers are expected to testify against him. The hearing is expected to take several days.

Sandusky, who was originally arrested in November, was arrested again Wednesday at his home and taken in handcuffs to the courthouse for an immediate arraignment.
