Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

In regard to attitude, America's conservatives could do worse than to be moved by those lines of William Blake from another place and another time on behalf of a similar sacred cause then not yet realized.

Conservatism always has been and always will be a force to reckon with because it most closely approximates the reality of the human condition, based, as it is, on the cumulative judgment and experience of a people. It is the heir, not the apostate, to the accumulated wisdom, morality and faith of the people.

As a force in electoral politics in any given season, conservatism, like all ideas and causes, is hostage to the effectiveness of the party that carries its banner, the candidates and leaders who articulate its principles and programs, and the engagement and spirit of the people who are its natural adherents.

A dispassionate critique of the performance of each of those elements would have to conclude that the core of the conservative people -- our natural adherents -- were inflamed with both passion and knowledge of conservative principles. It was the party and the candidates, leaders and conspicuous advocates (with some honorable exceptions) who failed both in their visions and their performances a cause that yearned to be well-led.

But fate (if you are a classicist) or the mystery of God (if you are religious) also has played its part this season. Only once since FDR-Truman has the American electorate elected the same party to the White House three times in a row (Reagan, Reagan, Bush -- 1980-1992). And by the way, only once since 1896, when Grover Cleveland declined to run for re-election and William McKinley won, has the American voter not elected the same party to the White House at least twice in a row (Carter, Reagan -- 1976-1980).

Moreover, the Republican Party, our reluctant champion, naturally (if, in a few instances, unfairly) was held to account for two unpopular wars, manifest corruption and managerial incompetence, a collapsed housing market that resulted in a 20-50 percent crash in the home values for most Americans, and a financial crisis that threatens world prosperity and has reduced the value of the average American's stock portfolio by about 40 percent.

But as someone who has been banging around American politics since the Goldwater glory and defeat of 1964, I need to observe that the first explanation of losing causes and losing parties (liberals and conservatives, Democrats and Republicans) almost invariably is to blame incompetent candidates, ineffective messages, and overwhelming events.

At a technical level, that is often true. But at a deeper, historical level, the failure was that the cause was not yet ready to lead. We conservatives were not ready to lead in 1964. By 1980 and 1994, under Reagan and Gingrich, we had figured out how to talk to a majority of the country with both principles and programs that gained a majority endorsement. We no longer were just standing on our high horse declaiming to a nation. We were on the ground, with the people, leading them into the citadel of power.

At a practical level, it is worth considering how Benjamin Disraeli reformed the modern British Conservative Party in the 19th century. (For a fuller account, see David Gelernter's Feb. 7, 2005, article in The Weekly Standard, "The Inventor of Modern Conservatism.")

Disraeli envisioned the Conservative Party as the true national party, while the Whigs were merely the party of intellectual ideas. In that time, English intellectuals and progressives were fascinated with German ideas, just as today Democrats are enchanted with European ideas. Disraeli judged: "In a progressive country, change is constant; and the great question is not whether you should resist change, which is inevitable, but whether that change should be carried out in deference to the manners, the customs, the laws and the traditions of the people or in deference to abstract principles and arbitrary and general doctrines." By championing the vote for the people in a century in which that was inevitable, Disraeli formed a conservative party that dominated British politics for 150 years.

Today there are certain profound values -- free markets and respect for life -- that are renounced at the price of our soul. Free markets, particularly, are under the immediate, explicit assault of the next government. Life may be undermined more surreptitiously.

But as a national cause championed by a national party, a conservative agenda must, for example, learn to speak persuasively to a near majority of Hispanic-Americans, or we will be merely a debating society. When Texas joins states such as Colorado, New Mexico (and even North Carolina, Virginia, Arizona and Florida), where Hispanic votes are necessary for victory, there is no possibility of national governance without finding that voice.

Our challenge is not to retreat to the comfort of self-congratulatory exile but to sweat and bleed -- and be victorious -- in the arena of public opinion.

More Loser Nonsense
From a party hack excusing a lukewarm cadidate for running an 'honorable' campaign.

How's that working out for us?

Yeah, let's speak to the illegals, so that we can garner their votes.

Bah!

Obama will walk into the White House as President not because of illegals, but because we as Republicans are too lazy or stupid to stop them from voting.

Thanks, John.

G*d bless the President of the United States, Barack H. Obama. I hope his tenure is uneventful.

Now what????
Fopur years of Peanut Jimmie educated a lot of people that they didn't like misery. Very few figured out why they were miserable, though. One thing i give Obama, he didn't stutter. He said he would spread the wealth. He said he wanted govt to be responsible for fairness. He said he wanted idscussion, not confrontation as foreign policy. We'll see how these ideas work. Maybe this time, the voters will see it wasn't Jimmie personally who screwed up, but left wing policy. It seems pretty unlikely though. A person who rejects education and rsponsible habits and then blames someone else because he is not being paid a big wage is not likely to learn anything else. LBJ declared war on poverty, and poverty has won. Pogo was right.

Goodbye USA
This writer is not far wrong when he insists that we must now bow down to the wishes of a "near majority of Hispanic-Americans." Now we see result of the open-borders policies of both political parties, which sold out our country to garner votes for Democrats and cheap labor for Republicans. Millions of Hispanics are invading and taking over the U.S, while we kill our own babies in the womb. We're well on our way now to becoming just another third-world Latino country.

You Know Better
than that, Tony. For conservatives there is no 'tomorrow' in the Communist States of America. There is a would-be tyrant and a Congress full of the ruling class 'elite.' And then there are the peons. Those who do not intend to become Obama's peons will simply relocate to other nations. Goodbye, America!

What do we do?
I'll tell you what we can do.

We can resist.

But how many of us are willing to make the sacrifices to do it? Are you willing to sacrifice your lives, your fortunes, and your sacred honor? Many of you have families. Are you willing to risk prison by not paying taxes, by doing what is necessary to spread the word about Freedom against Tyranny?

The way I see it, there is only one way to stop this growth of government, and that is to stop paying them. I'm going to stop. I'm going to keep all that I earn. I'm not going to give other people my money to pay for their retirement, their education, their welfare, and other things that I don't believe I should have to pay. I'm not paying the federal government anymore.

I refuse to support socialism.

What are you willing to do?

I'm willing to die rather than be a slave.

Call Me Naive
Call me naive but I am willing to give Obama a reasonable honeymoon before going on the defensive. I suspect I will be proven wrong and our fears about this man may be realized.

But unless we plan on engaging in armed insurrection against our Constitution and the new leaders in the White House and Congress a la "Seven Days in May" what choice do we have?

I have posted to several columns on this website in recent days that I feared this was coming. Between an unpopular Republican President, an economic crisis, two ongoing wars, and a left leaning media in the tank for this guy, this election definitely had a foregone conclusion.

I also blame my fellow evangelical Christians(and I include myself here) for not keeping our eye on our job. Jesus said we were to spread the gospel and be salt and light on earth. Instead we went off track and chased after the secular good life. I have relatives who will bemoan this election outcome and blame the homosexuals, the abortionists, the adulterers, and our secular based modern culture from their comfortable $200,000 homes. And they will be partly right. But I feel the main blame lies with us.

I don't pretend to know what is coming people. Our worst fears may be realized or not. But util we get back to basics and get people where they live we will continue to have a post Christian society and our conservative fears will become reality. At this point friends all we may be able to do is pray.

The blame game begins....
justifiably so..but it isn't productive, so why bother?

Unfortunately many of us weren't voting for McCain, but against BO. What choice did we have?? We weren't given one.

It may be a good thing to be thrown into the wilderness, but in the meantime Marxism and Socialism march on.....in our own country.

Shame on all of us...

Getting ready for the next 4 years
Truly this is very disappointing, but can't say surprising. We, the people have fallen asleep in the mist of a very important time in modern history. We must wake up from this ignorant sleep and start paying attention to what is going on in our government.

I 200% agree with "Wilson54". The Republican party has 4 years to get it right for the next election. We the people have 4 years to pay attention and educate ourselves. And maybe, just maybe we will have a chance next time.

In the mean time, let us humble ourselves to God and pray for wisdom and discernment. Put on the full armor of God and be ready.

Blessings To All..

Blaming is appropriate, not a game
Blankley correctly asserts this is a time for us to prepare to lead. For the commenter above, assigning blame is not a game, it is a methodical inward-looking process whereby we right our ship and as Blankley puts it, find a way to communicate more effectively. This is especially true for the growing Hispanic population. Better yet, we should not merely look to "sway" Hispanics, but bring them into our party, and into positions of leadership. If we do not see them as leaders within our party, how can they see us as genuine leaders for them?

I blame
my Republican party for squandering the 12-year opportunity it had to make meaningful changes in the way Government is done. I blame them for caving to the Democrats from Day One of their 1994 takeover-"sharing power" in order to "change the tone" and not be seen as 'partisan'. Bah. I blame them for allowing Bush to go on a spending spree (did he ever see a spending bill he didn't like?), allowing him to create yet another layer of expensive entitlements (Medicare drug benefits), yet another layer of bureaucracy (Homeland Security), more opportunity for yet more people to latch onto the Government tit (amnesty), not doing anything to abolish the Ministry of Education, etc., etc.

I too hope Obama won't be as bad as we fear. But now with all three branches in the hands of the Democrats, I'm afraid it will be an uphill battle to rein in government since they now believe, and rightly so, they have the mandate to make the socialist transition complete.

I just hope that those who wanted 'change' will come to see that you better be careful what you wish for.

I wrote in a post on a different column that we have two years to get it together and at least change the congress. Whether or not we will actually do it remains to be seen.

Rant over. :)

Immigration and Nationality Act
The I and N A of 1965 -- pushed on America by Ted Kennedy and LBJ (among other, less fervant proponents) -- has produced the desired outcome: an America whose demographic landscape bears scant resemblance to the America of just 50 years ago.

We were PROMISED (and stupid or careless to believe) that our country's ethnic and cultural makeup would be unaffected:

"The act's supporters not only claimed the law would not change America's ethnic makeup, but that such a change was not desirable. In reality, the Act did result in a flood of new immigration from non-European nations that did change the ethnic make-up of the United States. By 2050, the U.S. Census Bureau contends that immigration patterns and attendant differences in birth rates, combined with an overall slowdown in growth in the country's population, will produce a United States in which 53 percent of the people will be non-Hispanic whites. Coinciding with this ethnic change has been increased growth of the Democratic Party, and many contend that it was the true objective of the '65 Act to create an ethnic makeup that would favor liberal governments and create an atmosphere in which the objectives of the Civil Rights Era could be accomplished. The Immigration Act of 1965 shifted the focus of immigration law from non-European countries to countries that were considered to be Third World."

Meanwhile, a PC multicultural mindset -- skillfully transmitted to the nation via our school and university systems, the media, and government policies generally -- has served its purpose in all but destroying E pluribus unum.

To think at this late stage that the kind of conservativism Mr. Blankley subscribes to can be resurrected sufficiently to halt or reverse our descent into socialism and bondage borders on the miraculous.

But I do believe in miracles. But they don't come by sitting on our hands.

We were Happy and didn't know it...
After 8 years of hare-brained, socialist pandering by Republicans and it's nefarious consequences, Amerika has decided it wants even more of the poison that's killing it.
Amerika is living off foreign loans as it increasingly produces less wealth while true, tangible wealth production has moved to countries like China, Brazil and India.
Let's hope these countries will be half as generous with foreign aid as we once were...we will need it!

AliveInHim
Amen!

Tony''s Wrong
Tony, Tony, Tony,

Are you actually suggesting that George Bush, Trent Lott, Tom Delay, Dennis Hatchel, Mitch McConnell were not readly to lead? Give me a break.

These guys were more than capable leaders. They simple forgot or ignored what put them in office in the first place. They turned their back on Conservative principles and caved into the Democrats on spending bill after spending bill. To add insult to injury, they then added some spending of their own.

Reagan generally proprosed spending increases of 4%. Tip O'Neill and his Democrats generally proposed 13% increases. The compramise ended up at 8%. If Congress would have listend to Reagan, the budget would have balanced by the end of 1988.

But Reagan needed to compramise because he had a Democratic controlled congress.

Bush did not have that problem.

Rich D
Good evening!

*sigh*

It's going to be a long four years...the linguini-spined wusses at the top of our Party's leadership don't seem to understand what a 'teaching moment' is, much less how to learn from it.

SouthPawPundit
No.

We are enemies. Premier-elect Barack Hussein Obama is not an American, nor a Patriot. He is a Communist, which makes him a tyrant.

Do you believe I, and other conservatives, should simply accept your offer of brotherhood? Of comradeship? Never. Anyone who loves Freedom, who loves Liberty, should never accept it.

We will fight.

Every justice to the courts the Premier nominates will be denounced for what they will be; liberals. Every thing the Premier does will be examined under a keen microscope for the slightest flaw. We will do this, because it is what you and your ilk have been doing every time a Republican is elected. This will be all the more easier because the Premier is a Communist, which, by default, makes him immoral, prone to the mistakes that have plagued Democrats for years.

We will not submit. We will never surrender. And we will win.

It's devastatingly true...
...about one-half this country never educated themselves, or heard all the repulsive messages coming from the leftists, so they put into office the likes of BO & Murtha, threw out good men like C. Shays of CT.

To me he'll always be BO.

Ken
I must respectfully disagree with your premise that Trent Lott et al simply 'forgot' why they were put in the leadership position. Was it not Mr Lott who proffered the House gavel to Democrats in a spirit of "bipartisanship" and "power-sharing" that predictably, truly and finally resulted in him caving on the convictions that put him on that podium? Did he really grasp that extending his hand to his political opponents meant only that he got a bloody stump in return? And upon seeing said stump, simply looked at it, then promptly offered them his other hand?

No, we got our butts kicked tonight and as much as I hate to say it, thanks to the lack of solid convictions in our Republican leaders, we earned it.

51% plus 47% = 98% mandate
for illegal immigration, for more bailouts, for more Socialism. Yes you gave that mandate by voting for McCain. As much as you fault the leftist controlled media and the dumbing down of the public school system. You too drank koolaid and tried to pretend McCain was somehow a conservative. You let the media and the GOP tell you that your only option was the fast track of Obama or the slightly slower track of McCain. Instead of backing candidates who offered a return to America you signed on to keep going to Amerika. Well now we're going to get it on the fast track. Too many Republicans especially the religious right don't really want freedom. Oh they want to be free from having others tell them how to live, but they want to be the ones telling those others how to live. It used to be understood in this country that in order to be free you had to be willing to let the other guy be free too.

Listen . . . .

"A nation that can prefer disgrace to danger is prepared for a master, and deserves one".

Alexander Hamilton

Amazing.
There will be a future for conservatism...whether it becomes the dominant political ideology remains to be seen.

The question that needs to be asked is whether there will be a future for the GOP.

The election results yesterday should be seen as a continuation of the 2006 congressional elections...in 2006 it was Iraq, while yesterday it was a more general repudiation of the past eight years underscored by the souring economy.

The distaste and rejection of Bush, Rove, Cheney, Delay, Hastert, et al(who wrote the script that became the legacy of the past eight years)cannot be more manifest.

With these historic victories across the board for Democrats comes an obligation to exercise sound judgment in interpreting the mandate the voters bestowed upon them yesterday.

We traditionally have been a "center-to-center-right nation". We possibly are drifting to a center left nation in the wake of the financial meltdown and bitter aftertaste on Iraq.

I don't know if that is permanent. Much depends upon how the Democrats play their hand.

Obama must not be intimidated by the Pelosi's in Congress to lurch too far to the Left.

The nation has rejected the failed neocon doctrines and general incompetence of government that characterized the Bush administrtion.

The voter mandate is more a hope Obama can move our nation out of the swamp that engulfed it during those years.

It IS a mandate.

Independents, moderates, disaffected conservatives, first-time voters, hispanics, women, blacks, all flocked to Obama.

Even very large minorities of white males(GOP stronghold)gravitated to Obama.

Who would have ever thought Indiana or North CArolina would opt for Obama?

What an election!!!

It's William Blake, stupid
You mis-attributed your opening quote to "Robert Blake" (the actor?). Conservatives will do better if they get the basic facts right. And to quote William Blake, the mystic, radical poet and artist, in support of a conservative screed is certainly good for a laugh.

You reap what you sow
for over 40 years we have allowed our "leaders" to get away with pandering to the least common denominator in order to stay in power.
They hid behind political correctness rather than stand up and say "no, that's not what the framers intended."

They BOUGHT votes rather than solicited them from an educated electorate and they did it with OUR money.

It is a sad day today and it speaks volumes about this electorate, their understanding of the issues we face and their patriotism.

To reject a man of McCain's character and service in times like this in favor of this clown is unconscionable.

I weep for America because so many were too selfish and too ignorant to see what they have just voted away.

Dan
Good catch, Tyger.

Always nice to see some glimmering of intelligence, be it from left or right.

Warren Buffet, Scott McCellan, C. Powell
William Weld, Christopher Hitchens, Charles Fried (Reagan's solicitor general), Ron Reagan Jr., etc etc etc.

Uneducated? Socialist? President-elect Obama rejected the silly partisan attacks so common on Townhall. People rejected all the Ayers, Wright, 'socialist,' etc.

Americans rejected the politics of the silly and scared.

SouthPawPundit
What goes around comes around.

Excellent, excellent Article,
The Republicans have the values but don't know how to lead with carrying those values.

The Democrats don't have the values and don't know how to lead having no values.

So why are they voted in? Because the Republicans don't give a better alternative.

If they can't have conviction about their values they don't deserve to lead with them.

Democrats have conviction about having no values other than self interest and with conviction about that they flounder in leading.

Republicans need to figure out both, the values of their party and how to lead with them.

I have two requests for Republicans:
1. The Dems have been annoying us with Bush's supposed illigitimacy because of the close race in Florida in 2000. Don't do the same thing with Obama - he's an American, and he won fair and square. Hawaii validated his birth certificate the other day. NO WHINING!

2. Next time, don't fall for this "pick someone moderate enough to pick up the independant vote" garbage. I hope the results of this election repudiate that fallacy for the next generation at least... Let's run a good conservative next time.

IT IS NOW TIME TO "BE" OR "FLEE"
Many years ago, I was painfully aware that we had already lost our war with communism. The John Birch Society, almost alone, saw what was happening and predicted the coming of this day and those that will soon follow. Even I could see that without a radical change for the better in our culture there was no escape from the inevitable long term consequences of the direction our government was going even then during "the good old days."

We can forever lament our dreary lack of excellent conservative leaders. Or we could plot our escape to Bolivia or Switzerland. But if we choose to stay and fight, we must get busy reclaiming our culture and our schools from the cold, dead hand of collectivist philosophy. That is where we lost the battle at its most profound level. Saving our culture means flooding the market with books, plays, music, paintings, sculpture, film scripts, TV series and magazine articles that beautifully reflect our political philosophy.

Having good schools means we must start private schools that genuinely educate all children to understand and appreciate the conservative view of the good, the true and the beautiful rather than merely providing expensive baby sitting.

We must insist that the churches stop playing silly little religious games and get deadly serious about God and evangelism so we will have highly qualified, extremely moral people to run this country as at our beginning.

Finally, we must rethink and revamp our political party. We must arrive at an excellent definition of what it means to be worthy of the distinguished title of "conservative." Then we must choose an entirely new leadership who are committed to that definition in word and deed.

I Believe in Limited Government,
personal responsibility, a strong defense and free markets. Apparently the rest of the country does not. People don't share those beliefs unless they've been raised with them or arrived at them independently as a result of the actions of a corrupt and all-powerful government. Since neither party nor the President-elect feel bound by the constraints of the Constitution, there are no checks on power. Panem et circensis will ensure perpetual majorities for them and their unlimited power will continue forever.

I am sorry to sound defeatist, but the reason this election was so important was precisely because we won't have another chance once the Socialists begin their work. Obama has made clear his desire to redistribute wealth, dismantle Constitutional protections, abolish private property, and establish entitlements in perpetuity for every aspect of life except the entitlements to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. We can't survive Mr. Blankley because we no longer exist as anything worth preserving.

Do not become a bitter liberal
One thing we as conservatives cannot become is bitter and hateful like liberals have been for the last 8 years. Lets not sink to their levels!

It is time to regroup and look at what we can do in 2012 and how we can continue to keep America going between now and then.

The Hispanic Vote
If retaining our culture - which is IMO the true goal of conservatism - requires finding a way to reach Hispanics, then it is indeed over. Hispanic culture, I am sorry to say, simply has no history or culture that glorifies hard work, independence, self reliance, and self denial. The stereotypes of the pioneer chopping wood and the Mexican lazing in the sun under a sombrero are crude, but stereotypes tend to spring from a kernel of truth.

The Hispanic Vote
einahteb - you are a racist idiot , keep up with that attitude and the GOP/Conservatives will never win another election - but then again you are very typical of white conservatives - you're one of the reasons so many people came out to fire conservatives and Republicans . Next battleground state will be Texas if you are not careful .

Three-Fold approach for Conservatives
1) Start an absolute revolt in the Republican Party. Absolutely require them to get back to principle. Be prepared to create a new party.

2) Join the NRA. Buy a gun now, while you still have the right. As Thomas Jefferson said 'The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.'

3) Put systems in place that allow us to get the message out when/if he starts doing what we feared, card check, gun laws, Fairness doctrine. This is particularly important since a reduction in some of these liberties will make it difficult to get the message out. We may need to move servers offshore to protect internet content. We must look for loopholes like audio presentation over cable TV to replace radio. We may need be prepared to pass out leaflets on street corners.

Prepare now, but don't talk about what he/they might do. When they start to do it, make sure America knows. And hope they care.

Memo to O supporters
Do not thank Republicans for your big lib win last night.

Thank the "September Surprise" - the economic financial meltdown OWNED by the Dems in Congress - that Obama tricked people like you into thinking was Bush the neocon's fault. And the failure of a candidate to explain that to voters.

The biggest BS job ever swallowed by a bunch of suckers - now you'll get what you wished for, Obama! Yeah!

I suggest O supporters read Dallek's "Flawed Giant - Lyndon Johnson and his times 1961-1973" about the LBJ presidency and its implosion. Pay particular attention to the economic policies and what a failure they were.

Because they are exactly the same as what Obama proposes now in 2008. Good idea? Ya think?

P.S.: right on as usual, Tony!

Good Catch, Dan!
Tony writes...
"Bring me my Bow of burning gold:"
"Bring me my Arrows of desire:"

How about:
"Bring me Huggy-Bear in a Cadillac:
"Bring me my Bird, Fred, So that I my talk to him and find wisdom..."

LOL!~

Considering tomorrow and forward
If the republican party likes what just happened, just let it continue to run luke warm conservatives like Bush and McCain. If they like being the minority, let them continue to demean people like Sara Palin. The ONLY reason I voted repubican this time was because of her. Otherwise, I would have voted for Bob Barr. Any party running any candidate having graduated from Harvard is automatically OUT as far as I am concerned. Havard has screwed up this nation enough already.

If the rpeublicans do not go to a STRICt CONSERVATIVE candidate and platform, they had better become accustomed to being right where they are now. When they ran on STRICt CONSERVATIVE values in 1994, they swept the elections. Since then, they have turned mushy and want to co-operate and just get along. And look where it got them. And it is going to KEEP THEM where they are if they don't change directions.

To the democrats: Good for you. You stuck to your guns; you fought hard and worked hard for your values and you won. You deserve to win because the republicans did not articulate their positions as well nor did they have as good a candidate. Now you have the ball and if you don't score some touch downs, we will change the coach just like we did last night.

Oh, and one other thing, you start raising this private army Obama is talking about, his Homeland Security Force, and you are going to foment another civil war in this country and that is one you can't win simply because all those low rents in the nation who are your voters are not armed, and even if they were, they are so undisciplined that they would be nothing but an unruly mob, easily defeated by anyone with knowlege of military tacticts.

You have an historic opportunity to do good or screw up royally. I'm betting on the latter but I pray for the former. I'm buying gold, guns, ammo, and non-parishable food just in case you do what you have ALWAYS done.

Yes, Thinking About Tomorrow
Some talk of the consequences of the next 4 years. It is 8 years. Tony:"Our challenge is not to retreat to the comfort of self-congratulatory exile but to sweat and bleed -- and be victorious -- in the arena of public opinion." Good but later than implied. After the next 8 years there will be no return to todays values and morals. They are gone for good, to be replaced by "free" everything. And one commenter asks that Hussein not be dragged to the left by Pelosi -- she will be left in the dust unless she starts going left and fast.

No Party is the Right Party
Have none of you looked beyond your political affiliations lately?

No, the discussion remains on the level of my party's better than your party, nanny-nanny-poo-poo. My gang's better than yours...

Don't you understand that the real powers running this country want you to remain exactly where you are? If you're so busy sniping each other you won't have time to look around, to see what's really going on. And that's why Obama won. He's a smoke-screen, larger than life, the same with all politicians now that Congress handed the country, and our money, off to the Federal Reserve. Do you think for one minute if Obama tries to take his mandate and overstep the bounds set for him by the Federal Reserve that he will be allowed to do so? No. He won't. If Bernanke and his gang don't like what he proposes to do and if he doesn't play nice with them, they'll return us to the days of Carter, with 21 percent home mortgages. And then you lemmings who voted democrat will all vote republican, you will be swung to the opposite extreme like always because you won't step back from your playgrounds and really look at who's in charge.

The next Treasury Secretary is the new mouthpiece for Bernanke and his gang, a gang enslaving you slowly via the wimps of both parties in the US Congress. And if Obama doesn't choose a Secretary the gang at the Federal Reserve approves of, watch and see how bad this economy gets. They use these tactics to drive you to extremes and you're all fools for allowing yourselves to be driven like mindless cattle.

If you really want to change something, then form a new party, an American party, and take the country back from the Federal Reserve. Otherwise, you're all just blowing smoke in a pissing match while the real powers get stronger.

Conservatives need not be bigots
This hatred of Hispanics disgusts me. Legal or not, they are children of God. If you want to be Eurocentric, realize that most Hispanics have Spanish ancestry! Therefore they originate from Western Europe just like us. If one goes even further back, given the influences of the Roman Empire, Spaniards themselves are an amalgamation of many of the same cultures from which most Americans can trace their own ancestry back to.

Bigotry has no place in a Christian Nation. There is no such thing as racial purity in the Kingdom of Heaven nor does it exist in the world. The peoples of ALL nations are nothing more than the mongrel descendents of the multitude of tribal groups who swept across the globe at various points in history.

So stop your moaning about amnesty and whining about being “forced to cater” to the Hispanic vote. Instead, find ways to promote conservative beliefs and values and make these immigrants into productive American citizens. Either learn to become a part of the changing landscape of America or risk having your beliefs and values die with you.

Cut Them Out
The GOP needs a Night of the Long Knives. All of the fossilized deadwood need to be purged. The old dried up deflated footballs have to go. We need youthfull believers with the will to win.

Conservatism Doesn't Equal Republican
They are two different animals, and until conservatives recognize that, they'll always be at the mercy of a Republican who doesn't act by the lights of conservative values and principles.

So what do conservatives do? Either reform the Republican party into a conservative instrument, or start a new party and leave the dead-wood and the non-conservative Republicans to wither on the vine. This coming year may well be the only opportunity in a generation to do the latter.

ColinCody Well Said
You articulated very well what I've been thinking for some time.

But if we choose to stay and fight, we must
get busy reclaiming our culture and our
schools from the cold, dead hand of
collectivist philosophy. That is where we lost
the battle at its most profound level. Saving
our culture means flooding the market with
books, plays, music, paintings, sculpture,
film scripts, TV series and magazine articles
that beautifully reflect our political
philosophy.

We let the Marxists take control of education in this country at all levels and the news media is nothing more than a propaganda machine for the left. We will change this sorry state with just the remedy you describe.

I don't advocate fleeing. Only leftist bunnies run and hide when they are wounded. We need Americans -conservatives- to stay here and fight. And we need their creativity and ideas.

Immigration Fallacy
To presume that if one is against *ILLEGAL* immigration, one must also be a bigot, is so far off-base that the person would do well to re-learn the English language.

On the other hand, rather than stand on such simplistic notions as the 'rule of law', one could act with ruthless cynicism and embrace the breakers of the law (insensitive, politically incorrect bores have called such folks, "criminals" - what were they thinking?!) as a matter of political expedience, hand them voter registrations, and get them to vote for our candidate in various elections by promising not to expel them from the nation who's sovereignty they're violating, and promise to give them whatever benefits that actual citizens receive.

Oops. Did I let the kitty out of the bag?

It's the message AND the messenger
You don't win by cutting out various groups. Hispanics are conservative on many issues and they make up a large voting bloc.

You also don't win by watering down your message and nominating grandpa in the age of the internet.

Nominate an articulate, energetic young candidate that can persuade the masses that conservative views are best for them and the country. Stop assuming people can't be persuaded. They can be. It's tough for Republicans because they have to find a way to do it in the face of a constantly hostile media.

But the great leaders find away around and above the Katie Curic's of the world. The media didn't just become hostile to consevatives in the last couple years. They've been hostile to conservatives as long as I can remember and I'm 56 years old.

One other thing, conservatives need to bite their tongues when a Republican president doesn't do everything they want. Criticism from within is used by the hostile media to amplify the negativity toward Republican office holders.

Did Bush do some things I didn't like? Sure. But he nominated solid judges, lowered taxes and prevented another 9-11. On that alone he should be celebrated and not scorned by his own party.

EINAHTEB racial ignorance on display
Racism and it's silly derivatives and appologists of any cloak have NO PLACE in a well thought out principle of conservatism.

And it's ignorance bordering on the moronic to suggest that people who risk life, limb and liberty to immigrate, albeit illegally, to where they can get a job, work hard and support themselves and family. Yes, yes, I understand that many come here for the social services only, that's justifiably part of the discussion, but that's the exception not the rule.

Having said that it's equally moronic to assert that I am a racist because I vehemently oppose illegal immigration and amnesty for those who break our laws, including employers of illegals.
Mexican immigration laws are much worse than our own and we don't accuse them of racism.

I guarantee you that if I decided that Obamas back yard looked like a pretty nice place to pitch my tent he wouldn't be accused of racism when he called the cops on me.

We need to heed Rudyard Kiplings warning
Read the entire peom Old Issue but the end is the important part.

Howso' great their clamour, whatsoe'er their claim,
Suffer not the old King under any name!

Here is naught unproven--here is naught to learn.
It is written what shall fall if the King return.

He shall mark our goings, question whence we came,
Set his guards about us, as in Freedom's name.

He shall take a tribute, toll of all our ware;
He shall change our gold for arms--arms we may not bear.

He shall break his Judges if they cross his word;
He shall rule above the Law calling on the Lord.

He shall peep and mutter; and the night shall bring
Watchers 'neath our window, lest we mock the King --

Hate and all division; hosts of hurrying spies;
Money poured in secret, carrion breeding flies.

Strangers of his counsel, hirelings of his pay,
These shall deal our Justice: sell-deny-delay.

We shall drink dishonour, we shall eat abuse
For the Land we look to--for the Tongue we use.

We shall take our station, dirt beneath his feet,
While his hired captains jeer us in the street.

Cruel in the shadow, crafty in the sun,
Far beyond his borders shall his teachings run.

Sloven, sullen, savage, secret, uncontrolled,
Laying on a new land evil of the old--

Long-forgotten bondage, dwarfing heart and brain--
All our fathers died to loose he shall bind again.

Here is nought at venture, random nor untrue
Swings the wheel full-circle, brims the cup anew.

Here is naught unproven, here is nothing hid:
Step for step and word for word--so the old Kings did!

Step by step, and word by word: who is ruled may read.
Suffer not the old Kings: for we know the breed--

All the right they promise--all the wrong they bring.
Stewards of the Judgment, suffer not this King !

The old king has returned and we ignore is rule to our ruin.

"Reagan only won because he convinced religious kooks he was on their side, then proceeded to pee all over them"

Reagan won due to:
(*) Carter's inept handling of the Iran Hostage Crisis as a whole, including an even more inept rescue attempt in April 1980 (eh, a BROOM would have won against Carter after that debacle)
(*) reelection due to Mondale's whole campaign being a wet squib (analogy aptly delivered on Guy Fawkes' Day)

For Chris @ 07:22
Exactly the strategy in the formation of Canada's current Conservative Party (ruling since 2006, increased seating by 19 in 2008).

History: the PC's 1984-1993 rule had spawned a slogan "Liberal, Tory same old suppository"--as that government, far from reversing tax-and-spendthrift policy of Grits, actually increased taxes and imposed a new one (GST--which Liberal Party Canada Senators opposed; liberals opposing a tax is a beyond-all-doubts indication of the tax's sheer wrongness); their attempts in 1997 and 2000 to get reelected had proven disasters--and it wasn't until 2003/12/7 that any PC's figured this out (those who did joined the then-Opposition Alliance Party, which actually IS conservative, to form current Conservative Party).

Would that GOP would learn from the northern neighbour!

Under Reagan the Dow doubled

Under Ronald Reagan, the Dow Jones Industrial Average doubled.

The Liberal media quickly labeled it the "Decade of Greed"

Under Bill Clinton, the Dow Jones Industrial Average more than tripled due to the High tech bubble.

I guess we should refer to the Clinton years as the "decade of rape".

The only thing...
that will counter the "gimme, gimme" masses mindset and criteria will be the fear for their lives!

When the terrorists strike America again, and again, they will remember what Joe Biden said and how the Obama administration is not reacting to save the country..then they might come to realize their mistake..alas, of course, it will be too late.

People are not patient with the threat of death at their door-step.

Thank you
This is a sobering assessment we would do well to take in. The intellectual illuminati are very much fascinated with the empty ideas they wield. History inevitably moves the pendulum back and forth. We have only to let time take its course and continue to stand for the values that make conservatism sound. God has not abandoned our country. Only we can abandon Him.

Only illegal now
Those immigrants coming across the border for a better life would not have been illegal 100 years ago. Our current laws are inefficient and ineffective. To tell a man who wants a job to feed his family "Please wait for 5 - 10 years while we decide if we will let you in" is ludicrous. None of you complaining about the illegal immigrants would hesitate for a moment to cross a border to feed your family if that was the only answer.

If we had a policy that would invite those seeking work into the country that would have them on the job within 72 hours with every form of identification in the hands of the government, it would be far easier to identify the criminals and terrorists as they would most likely be the only ones coming across illegally.

Look at it as a risk vs. reward assessment. If we reward those seeking jobs with easy entry, they will not risk coming across illegally.

Of course, Democrats don't want to fix the problem so they can continue to exploit the Hispanic vote while Republicans don't want to fix the problem so they can continue to exploit the Hispanic worker.

Singh

You are correct. Many people assume just because someone is republican that they are a true blue conservative. Nothing could be further from the truth.

I really laugh when I hear ignorant Liberals complain about republicans and not recognize that what they are really complaing about is Liberal or left leaning Republicans who would just as easily vote for all the things Liberals want.

Deornwulf
Part2

In a democracy with a capitalistic system, you do not have the right to force those who have to take care of those who do not have. I emphasize the word force. There really is such a thing as killing the golden goose.

This nation does have a great deal of wealth, but it is not right to take it from them who possess it for the common good. That is not biblical.
If you want to argue the point that it is more blessed to give than to receive, I will agree. If you want to argue that the bible advocates giving to the poor, I agree.
If you want to argue that hospitality is a virtue, I agree.

I personally help those less fortunate when I am able even to the point of sacrifice.
But, it is neither right nor biblical to force a class of people to provide for those less fortunate.

Immigration laws are in place for a reason. It is not bigotry to expect immigrants to follow them.
Immigrants must be educated, schools must be built, and hospitals must be provided to meet a population’s needs, water, power, waste disposal, employment. All these things must be addressed.

By the way, I grew in a Hispanic neighborhood. I love the people. They’re hard working and have great family values.

To bad that some Americans don’t possess there character.
I’ve got nothing against immigration if done lawfully. My father was an immigrate.

Yes We Can With President Obama

Americans said NO to the divisiveness, lies, hatred, distortions and racist nonsense spewed by the McCain Campaign and its cronies.

Americans said YES WE CAN to bringing the country together, ending the Iraq War, fixing the country’s many problems, and getting our economy growing again.

Obama was so smart to reach out to ALL AMERICANS, White, African-American, Hispanic, Asians, etc., and not simply target the White ”Ozzie and Harriett” America that McCain focused on.

A Special Note to Republicans, America is not the America of the 50s, where whites are the only race that mattered, where there were only families led by two parents, and where gays and lesbians were in the closet. NO WAY, NO MORE.

McCain sowed a despicable and terrible campaign with his unqualified running mate Sarah Palin, and now they have reaped their failure. They can deal with their mess and hopefully learn something from it, otherwise they will repeat this failure time and time again.

It’s time to look ahead and hopefully all Americans will come TOGETHER and give Obama and Biden a chance to create successful policies and leadership, generate unity and an America that is respected again worldwide.

There is SO MUCH that needs to be done. Say goodbye to the Bush era, and YES WE CAN to the Obama/Biden era.

P.S. - To Obama bashers, try to think positive for once, and find some things you can agree with Obama on.

Consider getting psychotherapy, that's what you probably really need. You are likely using your hatred of Obama rather than handle other issues in your life. Deal with it!

Deornwulf
Part 1

Unfortunately, you will always have bigotry among some people as long as there is a difference in color or language, strength, size, weight, etc

It comes from a nature that many refuse to call sin.

But, please try to reframe from calling everyone who opposes illegal immigration a begot.

Every country has immigration laws for a purpose. It is for the purpose of controlling the influx of population in relation to services.

If you had a rather large home, large enough to house 50 people, but immediate family is 6. One day your mother and father show up and want to move in. They have legitimate needs and you oblige them. A month later 3 aunts a 2 uncles show up, they have legitimate needs. You are compassionate and take them in.

One morning at the kitchen table you say to your wife, honey I love my family but the finances are getting tight. Mom and Dad are old and can’t really contribute to the household expenses. The aunts and uncles aren’t able to find good paying jobs. The utilities have increased, the food bill is increasing and mom needs surgery.

Can you see where I’m going with this?

It doesn’t matter how much space you have, doesn’t matter how compassionate you are.

Immigration is much more complex than having a desire to open the nation up to those less fortunate.
Infrastructure, healthcare issues, ability of the country to provide jobs that allow immigrants to be self – sufficient, all play a part in immigration policy.

Reconquistas are NOT Americans
Sold us out again, huh, Tony?
All this is the UHF4-CH4 that gave us Shamnesty which 70% of American rejected, Mack the Knife who was an old white phart and a piszpoor candidate to run against the Red Black JFK Messiah, and another big loss, which you all were willing to foist on us if it let you keep their cheap slave Reconquista Labor.
You've sold out to the Robber Baron Bosses of the Gilt Bird Cabin Conservative Free GOP.
When you gonna come out of the Pro-homo closet and start bashing Christians too, Tony?

I'm not interested in a Party that sells us out to keep power. Which is all you are saying here with a sea-anchor out with the Cant words "free market" and "life". You don't even have the stomach to say "STOP ABORTION"!

I'm looking for a New Disraeli to found a NEW and SEPARATE Conservative PARTY that says Death to Sandnazis, Death to Reconquista Invaders, Death to Socialism and Death to Big Government.

You're such a hack you'd not only sell out our pinciples, you'd sell out our CULTURE! To Hell with you.

The Real Obama?
John, my wife and I voted for McCain/Palin because we thought they were the more experienced and better qualified, not because we hated Obama. They weren't our first choice, but they seemed to be the lesser of two evils. You, however, do seem to have a hate issue, i.e, anyone who doesn't agree with you. I hope Obama is able to govern well and that he will be able to do it in a truly bipartisan fashion. Let's see how you feel a couple of years from now, after he has a track record to judge him on. By the way, do you really think that Joe Biden is a heavyweight? Wow.

John
The minute America said "yes" to a Red Black Commmie Black Muslim Racist with the NAME Barak Hussein Obama it said YES to Socialism, Yes to Racism, Yes to Communism. Yes to Big Government, Yes to Perversion and Lies and Theft and Baby Murder trying to take away my First and Second ammendment rights and a whole host of Grand and Petty Tyrannies.

If this was WWII they'd be voting for Adolf Mussolini and Tojo Stalin! And the American Bund and Black Dragon Societies would be taking over Congress along with the Soviet Moles.

Ya'll can be as unified and undivisive about that among your lemmings selves as ya want to.

I'm not interested in coming together with Commie Thieves, Perverts, Parasites, Lying Prevaricators, Sandnazis, Reconquistas and Eurofags.

There is NOTHING I CAN or WANT TO agree with you and Bombie the Commie Chairman Barney the Messiah ABOUT! You hate everything I love, everything that made the Republic and America what it was, and you love the Theft of Socialism, Perversion, Eurofagism, Racism, Reconquistaism and Appeasement of the Sandnazis I hate with all my Real American Soul.

Tidbit for both Ken and Singh
I can remember responding to Frank Luntz on the issue of Republicans vs conservatives.

As a whole, Republicans are actually "Baloney Toryesque" (reference to Canadian Tories aka "PC's" of 1997, of whom the slogan "Liberal, Tory same old suppository" was well applied; additional reference to erstwhile PM Brian Mulroney, aka Myron Baloney) rather than properly conservative.

Note that the Canadian Conservatives' 2006 and 2008 victories followed the actual conservatives from PC's joining with the unquestionably conservative Alliance (formerly Reform) Party, returning to a properly conservative ideology.

the poem
Great article but at the risk of sounding pedantic isnt the poem by William Blake not Robert?

To All Americans
My Condolences to all of America. Your American Life is about to get worse. My heart goes out to all of you. This election has made history for the Bi-Racial person elected into office. This newly elected person was voted in on skin color and not Morals, Convictions, Sensibility or Truth. I am so fortunate not to have to live in America for the next 4years. Im thanking god for everyday that I have been blessed not to. God save you all!

Something to think about
The US Census Bureau projects (March 18, 2004)that the US population will increase from 282.1 million in 2000 to 419.9 million in 2050.

Also, Whites "are projected to actually lose population in the 2040s and would comprise just 50.1 percent of the total population in 2050, compared with 69.4 percent in 2000.

Nearly 67 million people of Hispanic origin (who may be of any race) would be added to the nation’s population between 2000 and 2050. Their numbers are projected to grow from 35.6 million to 102.6 million, an increase of 188 percent. Their share of the nation’s population would nearly double, from 12.6 percent to 24.4 percent.

The Asian population is projected to grow 213 percent, from 10.7 million to 33.4 million. Their share of the nation’s population would double, from 3.8 percent to 8 percent.

The Black population is projected to rise from 35.8 million to 61.4 million in 2050, an increase of about 26 million or 71 percent. That would raise their share of the country’s population from 12.7 percent to 14.6 percent."

So what are Conservatives going to do seeing that their base is almost exclusively limited to Whites (many of whom already vote Democrat)?

Change is comong ... in unexpected ways!

Conservatives resist change

Yes its true conservatives do resist change. But that does not mean they oppose change.
Change for the sake of change or experimentation is not embraced by conservatives. This two fold approach to change is often not understood by the less informed.

Obama is not offering change. He is in fact asking for a return to failed programs and ideas. It is unreasonable for Liberals to ask Conservatives to accept change that we know hurts people.

We have seen Liberal programs like food stamps abused when food stamps are exchanged for drugs.

We have seen how welfare discourages people from improving themselves and succeeding in life.

We have seen how herding inner city blacks/minorities into public housing has resulted in high crime neighborhoods and the creation of gangs.

We have seen how illegal immigration has resulted in depressed wages and expliotation.

We have seen how social engineering in school has resulted in high drop out rates and un-employable high school graduates.

We have seen the injustice of quotas and minority set asides.

We have seen how reductions in Military spending has resulted in poor training, poor equipment, and over extention of military deployments.

To summerize, Conservatives have seen the damage Liberal programs and ideas have done to society.

In short, You can no more ask conservatives to support hurting people through Liberal programs than you can ask us to stand by and allow another holocaust as F.D.R. did.

A conservative thinking about tomorrow
I'm sorry I can never support an Obama presidency because my great-great-great grandfather fought in the Revolutionary War to establish a country where people earn their keep by the sweat of their brow. Not a country that takes from those who have worked, sweated, taken chances, and struggled to create wealth to provide jobs for others and gives to those who are allergic to WORK. The president-elect is a socialist, plain and simple(spread the wealth). I started with nothing financially, absolutely nothing, but I worked my way through college and graduate school. I worked two jobs and earned a terminal degree. NO ONE gave me anything. Spreading the wealth is part of the Marxist philosophy.

I am tired of the charlatans that exist in our society. There are those who claim to be Christians who don't even understand the WORD. Individuals who claim Christianity should spend some time in the Holy Scriptures. They will discover that God many times suggested that the Israelites choose life (ex. Deuteronomy 30:19). In the New Testament Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life:no man cometh unto the Father , but by me." (John 14:6). That is contrary to what the president-elect said when he indicated there is more than one way to God. Who should we believe?

There are republicans who claim to be conservatives when their behavior demonstrates the opposite. They say all the right words but the day after the election they become their old selves. Winning gives them the best retirement and health care in the world, much better than Social Security and Medicare.

After just voting in my 12th presidential election I don't expect to vote republican again. I'm afraid of the wolves in sheep's clothing. If a national conservative party is not created with a stated philosophy and platform then in 2012 I will seek a third party candidate that best meets the criteria of conservatism.

The Citizens of America have Spoken
The American citizenry by an overwhelming margin, has spoken for 'Change' from freedom and the rights of the individual citizen, to 'Socialism' and the rights of 'Collective' citizens.

Americans are free to chose what form of government they want, and they have chosen.

The Liberty and Freedom to choose a form of government is an American right and I support that right.

Socialism has brought untenable problems wherever it has been tried and will continue too, until the end of mankind.

Socialists and Marxists always believe that the reason their theories of government has never worked, is because the leadership was never the right person.

Socialists and Marxists now believe they have the right leader in Barack Obama.

Only time and history will tell, whether Barack Obama is indeed that 'Socialist/Marxist' leader that can bring Socialism to America and make it work.

Until 2010, We have a chance to start turning America back into a Constitutional Republic and an economic system that built America into the greatest country in History - Capitalism

Sweating and bleeding in debates?
Well, I think Obama may usher us into a new era of Reaganesque revival, by acting like Jimmy Carter.

Conservative revival
Simple reality, you cannot change the laws of economics. Nothing can be consumed until it has been produced. When you tax the productive element of society, there will be less of it, when you subsidize the consuming element there will be more. For years, we have overtaxed the producing element, and borrowed to keep the consumer element alive. That day is GONE!! Even the messiah (Obama) cannot change that simple law. Conservatives have to reclaim the mantle of freedom, individualism and innovation, Obama socialism will die its inevitable death, a la Jimmy Carter. The downtown will take less than a year, we just need be patient.

You are right. Ideas prevail, not personality.

Lauhing at unhinged John
LMAO at unhinged and breathtakingly hypocritical John.

I remember how you angry, bitter, leftists united with the rest of America to give the Bush policies a chance at both of his elections. We see how well you come together with Republicans lmao, you really take yourself seriously. How pathetically sad.

I recall that the lies and slander about Bush and Republicans are constantly peddled by the pathological liars on the left and parroted ad nauseum by bobbleheads such as yourself.

The ONLY racism I observed during this election was from the kooks on the left and purveyed again by you here today.

You slander McCain, a flawed candidate and NOT a conservative but a good and honerable man with your hatered and narrowminded venom.

You betray your sexist mysoginy with your despicable and vulgar lies and smears of Sarah Palin who by any objective metric was far away a more qualified candidate than Obama and a fine and decent woman. Not that you would be able to know the difference.

America has won the war in Iraq but Obama will gleefully seize defeat from the jaws of victory and wave the white flag.

The rest of your babble is incoherent and moronic, you portray in your slobbering and growling jackal-barking the very attitude you claim of the McCain campaign and republicans.

You remind me of the has-been, washed up, mush brained, stoners from the 60s. A blight on America and on liberty and justice.

Ozzie and Harriet, lmao again you really aren't very observant -or balanced are you .

Jack Kennedy famously said "Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country"! His noble sentiment has been twisted by dimbulbls like yourself into "Ask not what your country can do for you -DEMAND IT"!! Over 47% of Americans voted for Stalinism. The rest of us will fight it till our dying breath.

Don't have time to check the thread
somebody probably already caught, Tony in his stupidity here.

ROBERT Blake was Tony Baretta that killed is wife/girlfriend. ROBERT Blake was also an the Father of the English Navy under Crowell and would have blown Blank-ly's head off on principle.

WILLIAM Blake's poem "Jerusalem" is too long for me to vet, but I have a sneaking suspicion that "Go, put off Holiness put on Intellect" has something to do with "sacred cause not then yet realized" Blank-ly waxes less than eloquent about, and wouldn't be surprised if norming perversion was not at the bottom of it either, knowing the Romantic Poets and beginning to get a "feel" for Blank-ly.

For a real man, two of em, read Jerry Bowyer's column instead.

Liberal biggotry
Liberals always project their self-loathing; their own hatred, biggotry and rage onto others. I'm used to it. They think it's a debate strategy. They actually think it trumps facts and objective reality.

The Big Mick, your point...
Big Mick, your point is well taken.

However I think what JAMAK meant was that personalities die, or are neutralized, defeated or discredited. A personality can flip-flop on principle for expediency and political rationale.

Ideas however are timeless and live behyond that of personalities.

Amen, brother. These leftist punks have no class at all and were borderline treasonous in their hatred and vitriol showered on Pres. Bush as evidenced by their rants in dailykos and huffypost and here at TH and anywhere anyone would even bother listening.

Disrespect as I have never seen in 52 years. I think what most of 'em need is a good old-fashioned as# whupping.

They justify their churlish behavior by looking back to the 60s, most likely to the counterculture warriors of that time, and pat themselves on the back approvingly for their new century efforts.

Wrong! The 60s were a time of near anarachy - courtesy of a Dem president who was killing 10s of thousands, assassinations, an economy ruined (come to think of it, O is proposing the same Great Scoiety programs that LBJ did then - hey, good luck O, you'll need it!), and riots in the streets of major cities everywhere.

2008 is a cake walk compared to those times and nowhere near as bad. So acting like an as#hole and spewing vitiolic venom about Bush is way overboard.

They want bad, go back to the last Dem who had a resounding '64 victory and a Dem Congress ready to tax, spend, and hand out money to people and new programs for poverty. That failed miserably as history proves.

I will support our new president. I will see if his new tack works at all with our economy.

And when it does not (it did not work for LBJ and I don't think it will now), I won't write and say he needs to dragged from office and tried as a criminal, or that he is a muderous thug when collateral damage kills some civilians while he is trying to kill terrorists, or anything else.

I will disagree, respectfully, and work to support a new Republican solution - which will be a return to the old and tried - Conservatism. And not the compassionate brand.

William Blake
Its William Blake, great English poet and painter who wrote " bring me my bow" Robert Blake, rivaling Horatio Nelson for title of the the greatest English admiral, delivered the parliamentarians from the Royalists in the English Civil War in the mid eithteenth century. May his spirit and sense of tactics and strategy be with us now in defeating King Barak in the battles ahead.

Where DO you live; sometimes I feel like being somewhere else too -- since the country my ancestors created has been stolen away from me, my children, and granchildren.

TODD IS SO RIGHT
Right on brother!!

Leftist policies must be defeated not coddled. I grew up during the 60's, I remember the angst and chaos. Who but the Dims themselves can forget the "malaise" years of Jimmy Carter-LOL, Dimocrats still revere the guy. Insanity.

Reagan conservativism is much more compasionate in it's results than any other political philosophy.

The only way Barack's
tenure is going to be uneventful is if he gets kicked out of office before his term is up. Obama's leftist illuminati ideals are going to ruin our country, but the only ones we have to blame are the liberals.

John
I hope that the 1/3 high school graduation rate of a lot of people who voted for BO will propell the economy. I surely do hope you have a better appeal to the wage earners in this country besides "we are all brothers and sisters". . . because brother it ain't gonna be the half of the country who voted McCain doing the heavy financial lifting on the messiah's new socialist deals.

Silver linings...
are there if you look carefully.

1) Remember how you felt when Jimmy Carter was elected? What was the result? Ronald Reagan became our president! The intelligent American people will not long stand for more of this crapola. More of the uninformed suffer from political ADD today than they did back then. They want it now and they want it all and, when things start choking them, they will be willing to go for another kind of "change", and that one should be led by the Jeffersonian conservatives. One must be patient!

2) If one cannot wait they ought to consider that the seeds of revolution are just about ready to bloom in America and this election just may be the needed fertilizer to get it all going.

3) Was it devine intervention from our Creator, and the acts of those of his flock, coupled with the powers in the universe, that just may have brought us to this time for a very special reason? Or was losing simply the ultimate selfless act of John McCain to deliberately run a lousy campaign while professing his goal to be our next president?

Regardless of the answer I will remain optimistic!

blame the liberals
Sorry to say, you can't blame the liberals. Sure, they're dispicable. But the first blame goes to all the Republicans who have been acting like Democrats for the last 10 years. (Including Bush, McCain, most of rep congress.) In a fight between a turd and a turd, a turd won -- by acting less liberal than he really is. Are we surprised?
Now comes the tedious task of kicking out the complacent Republicans left in congress and replacing them with true conservatives.

Time to leave
In the last few months I moved and changed my registration from Republican to Independent because the line between the GOP and the Dems was blurred due to big government, overspending and cowardice to stand for the principles I believe in. I did do my part and voted the GOP yesterday, but in NJ my choices were less than I had hoped in my Conservative mindset.

We can bemoan Bush, McCain and the press, but if we are going to be honest we must admit the problem with the Republican Party is the moderate and liberals within who wear the mask of a Conservative. Their names are known to all of us, so it is unnecessary to mention them, but it is necessary to rid ourselves of them.

The question is: who is going to leave the GOP; them or us? I have already made my decision, but I ask everyone else if they too would be willing to leave and establish a third party, one in which a Conservative would be welcomed. Those like "us" are not wanted in the GOP, for if we were the old guard would not have dissed the Conservative movement and those within. If anyone needs an example cast your eyes upon Sarah Palin and the elitists in the GOP who demeaned and degraded her as not worthy of their vote.

I say: let the GOP attempt to win without us because they cannot;and then let them watch us become THE majority party in the US.

Looking Ahead
McCain was not the right man, period. He had no fire, no passion, and refused to take the gloves off against Obama. Obama is perhaps the weakest candidate ever for the Presidency and McCain let him beat him. I suggest before the next go around the Republicans find a candidate that isn't afraid to stand up to Obama. I suggest before the next go around the Republicans find a candidate that the conservative base can rally around. No more McCains and no more losing campaigns.

for Black Prince
Black Prince writes: "Oh, and one other thing, you start raising this private army Obama is talking about, his Homeland Security Force, and you are going to foment another civil war in this country and that is one you can't win simply because... they would be nothing but an unruly mob, easily defeated by anyone with knowlege of military tacticts. "

The Secret Service will be very interested in your threats of insurrectionist violence. I'll pass your rant on to them.

WHATEVER programs Obama proposes must be opposed through the legislative process. Not with "military tactics."

for John
John writes: "A Special Note to Republicans, America is not the America of the 50s, where whites are the only race that mattered, where there were only families led by two parents, and where gays and lesbians were in the closet. NO WAY, NO MORE."

Agreed.

White male heterosexual WASP dominance in America is ebbing.

Until the GOP learns to reach out to attract the votes of other cohorts, it will be doomed to lose elections from now on.

for Todd
Todd writes: "And when it does not (it did not work for LBJ and I don't think it will now), I won't write and say he needs to dragged from office and tried as a criminal"

Actually, given the hysteria coming from the right-wing when Clinton was in office, I'm willing to bet you will.

Steve
You are conveniently forgetting that Clinton perjured himself, under oath, as the President. Can't even practice law anymore, for crissakes.

Not behavior we ever need condone or look the other way when it involves our president.

Market tanked today. I don't tihnk Wall St. is going to rally to the new guy.

SteveL
You are -- and always have been -- a shill for the left.

Just who do you think you're bamboozling?

To Conservatives
The true Conservative, Ron Paul, and his ideas based on the original intent and wisdom of the Fore Fathers comes closest to preserving our National strength, both morally and economically.

Conservatism, at least the unadulterated kind, recognizes as an axiom that nothing in life is free, you have to work for it; be it a house or your liberty. It’s an individual responsibility. This axiom requires that if excesses occur in any direction then a “correcting force” has to restore equilibrium; such as losing your house if you can’t make payments and losing your liberty if you violate someone else’s. This self-regulating mechanism in olden times kept people prudent and they did not live beyond their means as they knew the consequences. In this day and age of “liberalism/socialism”, caution has been thrown to the wind, people indulge in excesses of every kind, they think it is their due, and, in fact, seek perpetual indulgence from others (government usually but not exclusively), which is nothing more than living at the expense of others. Historically, this has been a recipe for weakening a Nation and its people to the point of collapse and then being subjugated by outside forces, usually physically by other more robust Nations but it can be by economic fiat, such as China collecting on our current multi-billion dollar debt. We then become a sort of slaves to these new forces and, of course, all indulgence stops completely and/or is dictated directly by the brutal reality of the forces themselves.

Be Angry!
John scrawls left-handed with his pink crayon on yellow paper:

"To Obama bashers, try to think positive for once, and find some things you can agree with Obama on."

Oh. You mean like you creeps did with President Bush the last eight years?

Earth to John: There ISN'T ANYTHING!

Let's face it. On November 4th, 2008, roughly one-third of the American population suffered an Election Day stupidity attack. Even if Obonzo turns out to be a "one and done", as I hope he does, we're still going to be paying for generations, financially and culturally, for the stupidity and foolishness of the brainless chumps who voted for him.

That is, if we don't end up paying for it IMMEDIATELY with OUR LIVES!

I have a right to be bitter about this, and so do all the rest of us who knew better than to vote for that idiot Obonzo, as I did.

Am I a sore loser? Yes.

Is it wrong? Yes.

Do I care? NO!

Rush Limbaugh related today that Sarah Palin made a quick exit from the stage after the concession speech Tuesday night. Predictably, the media "talking heads" all cited it as "evidence of friction" between Governor Palin and Senator McCain.

Rush had a different take: Governor Palin simply hates losing. If Rush is right--and he usually always is--that's a good sign.

Maybe if the Republican Party had more "sore losers" like Sarah Palin and fewer "good sports" like John McCain, it would win elections more often.

To the Obonzoids, your man's efforts to steal the election succeeded, and there's nothing we can do about it. Little good may it do you.

To the rest of us, good luck. We're going to need it for the next four years, if we live that long!

Duped Dopes
Two words to describe the majority of voters: DUPED DOPES! Our Nation just took a sharp left turn and the Framers of the Constitution just got a slap in the face by grossly ignorant voters. History shows that once a country takes the road we are now on decline is sure, possibly rapid, and direction is almost impossible to reverse.

Conservatives did not lose!
Republicans lost this election, but that's because we had a RINO at the head of our party instead of a conservative. John McCain didn't pretend to be anything other than he had always been, a liberal-leaning Republican who knifed the conservatives on many issues like freedom of speech, protection of our borders, and smaller government (which he later embraced).

McCains greatest decision was his selection of the great conservative Governor Palin as his running mate. Then he muzzled her and kept her from helping his campaign, dressed her with designer wear and refused to support her for wearing those clothes. She far outshone him in her crowd-gathering, devotion of fans all over the country who will survive just like Hillary fans have, while John McCain will fade into history as an also-ran who wouldn't run the kind of campaign it took to win. I think Sarah Palin, if allowed to run her own campaign, would end up a winner.

The Republican Party will treat President Obama with far more respect than the Democrats gave President Bush, but we will still oppose every left-wing program he attempts to pass, because they are wrong for our country. We thank God he didn't get a veto-proof majority in Congress, so we still have our check on him.

Meet the Thugocracy!
In response to Black Prince, SteveL, the Obonzoid Stool Pigeon, scrawls left-handed with his pink crayon on yellow paper:

"The Secret Service will be very interested in your threats of insurrectionist violence. I'll pass your rant on to them."

Congratulations, Black Prince. You've just received your official introduction to the Obonzo Thugocracy, courtesy of SteveL!

And to think SteveL and others of his ilk had the nerve to call President Bush a tyrant!

Steve, if you really think President Bush has been a "tyrant", you ain't seen nuthin' yet!

Anyone for Emigration???
As a Conservative who voted for the ONLY Conservative running for the Presidency, Chuck Baldwin, I am now a man with no country, no government, and no party. Our ancestors came to this country years ago for economic, political, and religious freedom and opportunity and/or to escape oppression, famine, or corruption - all of which impede an opportunity to succeed and provide for your family and future generations. The recent election of a Marxist, racist, Socialist terrorist a mere 7 years after 911 should be a clarion call for the Conservative masses that it is time to exodus this once-great land on which the sun has now set. In times like these, the more prudent thing to do is separate or secede from this corrupt government that is placing our nation in great peril, but this entails that the bozos in our State governments would actually have the wisdom, courage of conviction, and Statesmanship to make such a bold move - which we all know will NEVER happen with the motley crew of government welfare lawyer idiots who always wind up in State government. Instead, it is more practically left to ourselves - to We the People WITHOUT A GOVERNMENT TAHT WILL PROTECT US - to emigrate from America to a more responsible SANE country.

Cont'd...
America has now collectively voted to continue the UNBIBLICAL, UNCHRISTIAN policy of our leaders towards Israel that seeks to divide the land of Israel, the apple of God's eye - a GUARANTEED JUDGMENT ON OUR LAND - more Katrinaesque and Andrewesque and Hugoesque hurricanes, more Midwest superfloods, more massive Midwestern tornadoes of biblical proportions, and more Northridge Earthquakes, more 911's, more Stock market crashes, more and more runaway national debt, and ???? The situation is untenable. What would be a more better way to show our disapproval of America more than to just get up and leave her for good to die in her own ignorance and corruption??? I have been thinking an awful lot along these lines lately - convinced that America is too far gone in her corruption, ecumenicism, Liberalism, anti-Christianity, Political Correctness, Socialism, and ignorance. Australia anyone???

Who is left in the GOP?

White College educated Males voted for Obama after voting for Bush in 2004.

New England, which is possibly the best educated area in our country kicked out the last of the GOP Reps in the House.

With that, who is left? Wasilla Hillbillies? The remnants of the GOP is the USA White Peoples' Party. That kind of sounds like Hitler's party.

Sad,

getting elected versus governing

Hussein has been a superb politician-- at the art of gaining election, he made few mistakes. There is, however, a difference between the ability to get elected and the capacity to govern. Choosing Rahm Emanuel is a bad sign for one who has said that he eschews ideological partisanship. And the leftist MSM, desperate for a win, was certainly not going to question his hard-left liberal core. Still, McCain led in the polls only a short time ago.

But when the economic mess blew up suddenly, none on the other side called attention to those primarily responsible-- pols on the left who required that sub-prime mortgages be made. McCain was indeed reluctant to call things as they were-- the mortgage crisis WAS the fault of the left, and Hussein would surely mean a hard turn to the left-- he let them hide.

Presidente Jorge probably doomed any RINO to lose anyway-- he stunk it up badly with his neoCON war of choice against the wrong Islamics... Saddam and Osama were enemies. Then Jorge approved even more profligate spending and government growth to buy loyalty for the funding of his boondoggle war, which will cost us $3 TRILLION all-in. Conservatives were disengaged because Jorge spent like a drunken sailor 'Crat-- not what we voted for.

Drivel
This column states absolutely nothing except Blankley's apparent intention to keep touting the failed social conservative agenda even as it conflicts with freedom, while pretending that everything is alright.

It was the attempt to bring Jerusalem to America that turned off voters. Anti-abortion initiatives were defeated, euthanasia passed in Washington state, marijuana partially legalized in Massachussetts. The only thing that still went to the social conservatives was a couple of gay issues, by ever-decreasing margins and not likely to survive a court challenge anyway. Time to take a hint.

Fusionism has failed. The social conservative movement should have never been invited into the Big Tent in recent decades. That was a mistake. The social conservative movement was a paranoid, irrational reaction to Communism and is not fundamental to conservativism--indeed, it is a contradiction to it, and it was originally understood to be such by better minds than that which inhabit the modern intellectual landscape. But the religious loudmouths got their way and brought down the movement and the Party. You cannot advocate economic/personal freedom while simulantaneously redistributing wealth to churches, banning scientific research, dictating to people their medical status, denying them the right to pursue happiness when such pursuit violates no one's rights, etc. In a compromise between food and poison, the winner is death.

This column also gets one star for attempting to refocus on people again ("populism") instead of ideas. I have warned about that. How do you intend to go populist without offering the population ideas? Or do you intend to pull a liberal and pretend that it is strictly a practical question with no moral/ideological aspect to it? Do you think you can successfully evade such questions when they come up?

That is exactly what the GOP has been doing for the past eight years.

An Uneventful Tenure
As Americans, can we support our President, without supporting his agenda? It seems to have worked wonders for the Democrats and the troops in Iraq.

In fact, the Democrats have been so "honorable" over the past 8 years, Republicans should learn from their example.

The Democrats have piled on Bush for 8 years solid and their efforts have finally reached their fruition. What opportunities did we miss during this time. Will history judge Bush through this prism of unprecedented cooperation?

RIP USA
Rest In Peace United States of America
Born: July 4, 1776
Died: November 4, 2008

The United States of America died yesterday after a long illness of extreme liberalism, greed, selfishness, and laziness among it's people.

The USA is survived by its replacement, the Disunited Socialist State of Amerika. God help it's people now.

The Bombings Will Start Soon
The Russians TODAY threatened to move their missiles near Poland and jam US anti-missile sites. How's that for not wasting time??? The stage is already being set to challenge this Ivy-League, tree-hugging, spineless, Liberal, limp-wristed, mama's boy, crybaby, bed-wetting chump.

Iran & al Qaeda must be chomping at the bit for a piece of this bubble-headed, braindead buffoon. Israel is about to release Hell on Iran knowing this stupid SOB wants to send Secretary-of-State, John F.'ing Traitor Kerry, to sit down and have tea and crumpets with Terrorist-in-Chief, Ahmadinejad, in Teheran, as if it is possible to negotiate with a genocidal madman a la Neville Chamberlain.

When America is hit with the suitcase nukes on American soil in major cities - NYC, LA, & DC included - in al Qaeda's self-styled "American Hiroshima", as has been reported by the CIA & FBI authorities, millions of the innocent will have died because of an irresponsible politically biased news media that refused to investigate this matter and inform the American People and 2 power-hungry parties in DC that only cared for political power and money for their re-election campaigns over the protection and national security of the American People - a dereliction of duty of TREASONOUS proportion.

In the aftermath of the needless death of millions of Americans, ALL of the corruption in DC and Wall Street will be exposed, and many will be SHOCKED. Heads will roll everywhere. God will SHAKE the corruption of this nation to its foundations!

Cont'd...
God's Judgment on a nation that deliberately chooses to muck with the apple of His eye, Israel, is a fearful thing. He said in His word, "I will seek to destroy any nation that seeks to divide the land of Israel." God does not play games; He is deadly serious and pissed! Our stupid Presidents and thus our stupid selves ever since 1991 have sought to divide Israel; we have had unprecedented natural disasters of Biblical, Judgmental proportion ever since, but we and our leaders refuse to wise up and confess this heinous national sin against Almighty God. Biblical ignorance is no acceptable excuse! America is under Judgment - make no mistake about it, and the sad fact of it all is that WE DON'T EVEN KNOW IT!!!

The Jeffersonian Crisis
May I recommend my column dated yesterday on my website "www.xanga.com/STEVENPILL".

I suggest to the readers that not only is America in the gravest of perils, but world civilization with her. The Democrats have resorted to every illicit means possible in order to carry this election. When they take control of the frighteningly massive (and unconstitutional) federal bureaucracy- a creature of their making- they will initiate the five critical steps that all despotic regimes must to consolidate power.

Only by holding to our values, maintaining righteous resolve in our hearts and resisting by all means necessary the incursions of the enemy will we prevail.

Little Nation of Horrors
We are watching a rerun of Riefenstahl's "Triumph of the Will". Worse I just read a psychological profile of Obama at "faithfreedom".Pray while you read it. 20 million illegals are about to get amnesty and millions more positioned to stream across no borders Obamaland.Won't be long before mushroom clouds light up the skyline in no borders,no national security Obamaland. There is a mad dog loose in the streets and he has rabies. We don't have to wait for Armageddon. We have the black Messiah psychopath.

The Soul Of The Republican Party
I wrote a posting about the six core values of the Republican Party's Vision for the Future at
http://abeandron.com/blog/2008/11/06/the-soul-of-th…publica n-party

who is ready to lead?
When will conservatives become as blood-thirsty as the left? We can maintain the high moral road all we want, but we'll continue to suffer embarrassment and loss along the way.

If God is judging America now, I fear we're only at the beginning of that great event.

So we need to pray diligently for God's grace.

We need leaders who will not compromise conservative beliefs, and will not allow themselves to get sucker punched by the socialists. We need leaders who are every bit American, not some hybrid with a silver tongue. We need leaders who will fight tyranny with tough minded tactics.

We need to educate our young, communicate to the heart and soul of Americans, stand up in the public square for our beliefs, and not go quietly into the night.

When you look at the leaders of the other party, Dean, et al, you get a sense for just how ruthless and arrogant they are.

Who is ready to lead?

Who will stand up and be our champion?

You are accountable for leading the conservative fight in your own family, in your own neighborhood, at your office, in the market place, on the Internet, on blogs, on the radio, at your kids school, in your local government. Don't ever give up.

We have to build a grass roots effort to turn this juggernaut back. Because we all know we can't rely on the press to get the job done.

Someone earlier mentioned this. Are we prepared to sacrifice our lives, our liberty, our sacred freedoms, to save this nation? It's that important, and it's that urgent.

NO PRAYERS FOR OBAMA or HITLER
Obama is not a natural US born citizen and therefore got this election through trickery and coercion. He is not my president, only in name.

Obama used the name of Jesus Christ to try to get the Christians to vote for him and he used a photo op at the Holy Wailing Wall in Jerusalem to get the Jewish vote. For 20 years he attended a “church” where the pastor cursed and used God’s name in vain from the pulpit, to get the black vote. In my opinion, he might as well of used the “F” word in the “sanctuary,” which I’m sure he has anyway, just never got on tape. And it is very clear about how he and Obama feel about Israel and the Jews.

Am I to assume you’d also instruct the German Christians back in Hitler’s day to pray for the “wisdom and safety of Adolf Hitler? Brothers and sisters, it’s time to check yourselves on that one.

There are far more scriptures in complete contrast to praying for a monster like Obama. I don’t recall Jesus calling for prayer for Caesar, Herod, or even Judas for that matter. Peter did not pray for Ananias and Saphira who came to him with a lie on their lips; and the early Christians did not pray for Nero’s safety and wisdom. In fact, Jesus said He only prays for the ones that the Father has given him, those who’s names are in the Lamb’s Book of Life.

AND I DON’T RECALL JOHN THE BAPTIST PRAYING FOR HEROD: HE SAT OUTSIDE HEROD’S GATES AND DECLARED TO HIM AND THE WORLD THAT HEROD WAS IN VIOLATION OF GOD’S LAW AGAINST ADULTERY. AND HE GOT HIS HEAD CHOPPED OFF FOR IT.

Now we have a man Obama that supports infanticide, homosexual marriage, Islam (praying to the moon god, which YWH forbids), racially divided churches, and splitting the land of Israel, and he accepts worship and adoration as a deity: all of which is far greater sin than Herod marrying his brother’s wife.

No, we’d better pray for the courage to stand in the faith against such a monster.

Stop Drinking the Kool-Aid
Sen. Obama is President-Elect of this country due to the unwillingness of George Bush to "man-up" against the likes of Rep. Pelosi and Sen. Reid. He allowed these 2 clowns to call him a liar and a moron for over 5 YEARS with complete impunity. Statesmanship is not a panacea for victory. This is politics people.

President Bush made it impossible for me as a supporter to defend him. He allowed Pelosi and Reid to kick him everyday with no response. Bush allowed policies that I supported to be re-defined by the political opposition with no rebuttal, no defense. If he could not get his message out through the media, he should have taken his message to the American people. He did none of this. He allows it to continue even to this day, with Pelosi re-writing history by blaming Republican “de-regulation” of the financial industry for the current melt own in our financial markets. Not a word of dissent from the wimp-in-chief, just how he is glad that a bipartisan money gift to the corrupt financial / index fund industry was passed.

He abandoned his principles, and he abandoned the people who like me voted for him TWICE. He allowed himself to become a caricature, a joke, an amusement for late night comedians. He allowed his accomplishments to be diminished, and his failings to be magnified. Some may find his silence noble. I call it stupidity. This type of thinking is why we have a liberal – socialist as President-Elect of this nation.

Vice President Cheney allowed the same political opponents to make statements how Cheney himself is profiting off of the War Against Terror. A leader that allows political foes to imply that you are profiting off of a war in which American soldiers are dying and says nothing is a coward. What do you call someone that lets it go on for 5 years?
