Abortion as a Test of Conscience and of Campaign Commitment

What was the biggest suprise of Election Day?

The President-elect appears to have stepped back from some of his campaign promises. That merely is speculation. We shall see. The President-elect did make a dogmatic statement regarding the so-called "Freedom of Choice" Act (FOCA). He said he will propose FOCA, which would eliminate all State and Federal restrictions upon abortion. It would purport to force Christian hospitals to perform abortions or close. It would demand that physicians perform abortions or give up their practice.

Whatever happened to freedom of conscience? A hallmark of professionalism in the United States has been that we never force anyone to violate his or her conscience in the performance of a duty. That is the first line of defense of the pro-life movement. Even more than the Hyde Amendment, which has prohibited funding by the Federal Government of many abortions, the idea of freedom of conscience unites all parties in the pro-life movement, which has made progress since the passage of the Hyde Amendment. There hardly has been a Congress which made no progress on the right-to-life issue. And when progress was stymied at the Federal level, many restrictions were enacted at the State level. Most were tested in the Federal courts and were held to be constitutional.

It is inconceivable to me that a majority in Congress can't agree upon freedom of conscience. Counting the votes, I doubt that there are enough pro-lifers in Congress to maintain the restrictions previously passed by Congress. However, even honest liberals would favor allowing a physician to practice medicine consistent with his or her life-saving principles of conscience. Most Republicans, as well as many Democrats, ran as pro-lifers in the 2008 election. This fundamental issue may become the first test of their commitment to life. If we force hospitals and physicians to perform abortions against their beliefs, in other words in violation of their conscience, then we will be on a downward spiral from which there may be no return.

This will be a test, America. God help all of us.

Choice
Rowly from georga is right on with the choice of a woman, it is to have sex, protection or not that is her choice. That is end of choice. All the hype of protecting a woman for her life. Well if I remember right the womans life was never at danger. That was the only way a woman could get an abortion was if her life was at stake. So the mantra of saving the mothers life and to keep her from the back alley abortions is a bunch of bunk.

As with everything, follow the money.Planned Parenthood has received millions from the Fed government. We have the wonderful doctor in Wichita Ks, that is known at Tiller the baby killer. He does all abortions and specalizes in late term. For each abortion he receives 5,000 dollars. He gave our Governor over a half a million when she ran for governor this last time.Morrison the Attorney General that got elected and had to resign because of scandle also received over a quarter of a million.Sebelius and Morrison were both pro-choice, suprise suprise. Both are Democrats also.

Follow the money is in every thing that is divided between dems and rep. Look at Global Warming, the scheme of Big Al's he has made billions already, he has a company in silicone valley that sells carbon credits and another one that is deep in renewable energy.

The Unions donated millions to the Dems run this last election cycle,Charter schools are a challenge to the school unions, because charter schools have been proven to actually work. The big three, in deep trouble because of the Union agreements they have had to sign.

We at a country eleced a president that believes in this vile practice. God I am sure is angry about all the children that are just disgarded like trash. Heaven for bid we as a country have become so hard hearted as not to be effected by this murder.
