Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

I am an attorney and professor of law and entrepreneurship, so I usually confine my commentary to matters of public policy, and leave theology to those who have chosen that field of study. But since today is Sunday, I will take the liberty of making an observation with a more Biblical bent.

As one who has taught entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial thinking for nearly ten years, I am distressed by the apparently overwhelming sentiment sweeping Americans that they must now be taken care of. I know from years of studying the matter that a society in which most members are – or can be – entrepreneurial, is a society where upward mobility is the rule; where wealth is created – not just “spread around”; where hope is common currency; where the inevitable problems are viewed as opportunities to find sustainable solutions, and where those solutions are typically new industries, new companies, and new jobs. An entrepreneurial society is a society where most people wish to, and know they can, take care of themselves, their families, and even others in need. Where charity and philanthropy are fellow-travelers with success.

Joe the Plumber’s exposure of Obama’s “spread the wealth” philosophy exploded like a flash fire, not only because that philosophy is utterly anti-American, but because it is shortsighted, and immoral. It is short-sighted, because in an economy that is a bit battered and fragile, what we need are more businesses, more workers, and more wealth creation in the private sector, not more government programs and more people dependent upon them. It is short-sighted because it is a failed business model. And, as we saw with the collapse of major lending institutions a few weeks ago, a failed business model, made larger (or “spread around,” if you prefer) by government, is not just a failure, but a catastrophic failure. So it was with the irresponsible lending practices foisted on American banks by the government, and so it will be with the irresponsible spending and doomed reliance on government largesse that Obama and the Democrats are peddling as salvation.

And the inevitability of its failure is why Obama’s philosophies are not just foolhardy, but immoral. It is immoral to deceive well-meaning people about what you intend to do with their money. It is immoral to take by force from those who produce, give to others who do not, and call it “charity.” It is staggeringly immoral to create an ever-larger class of dependent, helpless people who will be doomed to starve when the unsustainable system you have created collapses. And most of all, it is profoundly immoral to set yourself up as a secular messiah of sorts, assuring people that you will take care of them, eliminate hardship, heal the planet, and hold enemies at bay by the sheer force of your own hypnotic rhetoric.

Obama’s economic and social theories have been debunked and disproven (at great human cost) so many times over the past 100 years that it’s laughable anyone still believes in them. But at least his designs on the country are understandable. Those who crave power will use any tactic, as long as it works.

It’s the fact that it’s working that is inscrutable to me. And this is where the Biblical references come in. Americans’ attitude toward this posturing, self-important, political zealot remind me of the Israelites’ demand for a king, as recounted in the Book of Samuel:

When Samuel grew old, he appointed his sons as judges for Israel. The name of his firstborn was Joel and the name of his second was Abijah, and they served at Beersheba. But his sons did not walk in his ways. They turned aside after dishonest gain and accepted bribes and perverted justice. So all the elders of Israel gathered together and came to Samuel at Ramah. They said to him, "You are old, and your sons do not walk in your ways; now appoint a king to lead us, such as all the other nations have." But when they said, "Give us a king to lead us," this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the LORD. And the LORD told him: "Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected Me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking Me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will do." Samuel told all the words of the LORD to the people who were asking him for a king. He said, "This is what the king who will reign over you will do: He will take your sons and make them serve with his chariots and horses, and they will run in front of his chariots … He will take your daughters to be perfumers and cooks and bakers. He will take the best of your fields and vineyards and olive groves and give them to his attendants. He will take a tenth of your grain and of your vintage and give it to his officials and attendants. Your menservants and maidservants and the best of your cattle and donkeys he will take for his own use. He will take a tenth of your flocks, and you yourselves will become his slaves. When that day comes, you will cry out for relief from the king you have chosen, and the LORD will not answer you in that day."

But the people refused to listen to Samuel. "No!" they said. "We want a king over us. Then we will be like all the other nations, with a king to lead us and to go out before us and fight our battles." When Samuel heard all that the people said, he repeated it before the LORD. The LORD answered, "Listen to them and give them a king." (1 Samuel 8:1-22)

The comparisons are telling: Americans are understandably fed up with corruption, greed, and perversion of justice in our leaders. But till now, we have asked for no king, because we could take care of ourselves, and because we have always been a godly people. But look around now – our children languish in failing, crumbling, unsafe, and undisciplined schools, many of which are merely bastions of social experimentation. Our cities are riddled with crime. Our families are devastated by divorce, abuse, illegitimacy, absent fathers, and definitions of “marriage” that fluctuate with the sexual predilections du jour. Our culture – books, films, music – is saturated with violence and perversion that even the smallest child is exposed to. And of course, one cannot forget – the high watermark of freedom and femininity, and the litmus test of liberty for the Left is the unfettered right to kill our own children in our wombs (or leave them to die outside of them).

This is what we, as a nation, have brought ourselves to. These are problems that no amount of social spending will cure, and any promise to do so is a lie, because no amount of money will change people’s hearts. And yet, instead of reaching deep within ourselves to find the solutions, we now whine and mewl for someone to save us.

And here he comes, Barack Obama, on a “righteous wind.”

As with anyone who would be king, Obama will take our money and our property in ever-larger amounts. Our children will be saddled with debt and beholden to a bloated government that will enslave the very people it promised to help. We will be at the mercy of our enemies. And no matter how bleak or desperate our own lives becomes, the leaders in Obama’s government will always thrive; such people always do. Nor is any of this is unique to Obama; it is in the nature of every king, and every government, which is why our government was originally set up to be limited, both to protect us, and to ensure our own self-reliance.

John McCain will not be a perfect President. But it is not necessary for the leader of a free, righteous, and entrepreneurial people to be perfect. I can support John McCain because he asks only that I vote for him, not that I worship him. And I will vote for John McCain on November 4th, not because he would be a better king, but because he does not claim to be one at all.

Neither McCain nor Obama is a king who will save us; we must turn instead to the only One who can.

thank you, Laura
very beautifully put, and highly appreciated by this reader.

Well said and apt.
Thank you, try not to be discouraged by the inevitable thuggish naysayers of the left and I do hope your driving record is clean...

Thank U Ms Hollis!!
As I indicated earlier "I don't ned Anymore Karl Marx" in my future..Same philosophy applies to the election/appointment or any other method of selecting a King!!!

Can't wait to hear the ranting of the sheep!!!

Well Said
That was well said and I appreciate it. It helped me feel better. I was talking to my father and we are both sad that America appears bent on Obama. The danger of a fawning press and cultish followers gives me my heart little "hope" (are others allowed to use that word without permission from the Obama cult?) for what is to come as I hear the plans described by Frank, Pelosi and his economic advisors.

Everything I learned in Finance says he is wrong. The author is right to note we have 100 years of trying this to no success compared to the original American system.

Entrepreneurship
I, too, teach entrepreneurship at the university level. I wish I could teach it to every adult in America.

We have the best system ever devised for giving people opportunities to create and realize wealth. We are also good at quickly spreading the wealth through our population,...

but most people don't seem to understand how it all works.

We are destroying the engine that generates the wealth. If this continues indefinitely, entrepreneurship may be taught as a history course.

Thank God I'm not alone
I was beginning to think I was the only one seeing this scenario as being very like the annointing of Saul. Maybe because I live in one of the blue-est of blue states.

I thought that the lessons of state-run economies had been well-learned, from the Russians, among others. Obviously some didn't get the message. I have to wonder what other parts of the communist experience we may have to go through.

I pray that we may still dodge this bullet. Solzhenitsyn's "Gulag" books were interesting to read, but I have no particular desire to live that story myself.

Good Catch
OMG!! The parallel with the Bible befits the times!! How about that?? We don't care who he is, we just want a king!! Wow, I didn't see that coming but you spotted it! Unfortunately, obama's no king though others think he is, he's just another manager in succession, he's not even a leader.... Alas, if he becomes president I can guarantee more disappointment than GWB.

Ridiculous
I guess it's okay with you if the socialism starts with welfare for the rich as Bush and Paulson have introduced to America.
I guess it's okay to bailout the crooks on Wall St. without asking the American people first. That is our money you know. Isn't that devious?

The article is completely ridiculous.

The American people are not looking for a King we are looking for positive change after eight years of Bush/Cheney's destructful dictatorship.
We are looking for a fresh start. We are looking for a leader with a brain. We are looking for a leader for all the people not just for the wealthy. We are looking for a fair shake.
So you can attempt to bring religion and the bible story into the current race for the presidency but your opinion theory is nothing more than that.

You Insult Americans
Where do you get off claiming Americans want to be taken care of?
Americans are proud, hard working people who make their own way and pay taxes to boot.
There may be some Americans that need some help at times, like our homeless American Vets, but why is that wrong? Why wouldn't we help our own people?
Why is it okay to pour our money into wasteful wars? Why is it okay to give huge amounts of aid to other countries yet it's not okay to give assistance to an American?
The majority of Americans would never ask for a handout but others may need a helping hand.
If we can bail out the crooks that have destroyed our economy why not the poor American?!!

King Obama
I heard today on the radio that Barac means blesed one in some Aficran language. since obama named himself that,[ his real name is Barry,] I think he may believe hes the chosen one and that as such he has all the answers. But i dont believe that he prays to the same god as most people in this country do. I just find it very strange that so many people have convinced themselves that he is the ONE, when everytime he opens his mouth he proves otherwise and his V.P. is scared to death .

Eleanor Rant
This is a tipical Democrat rant that was written some time ago and repeated by every Democrat until it means nothing. It is the Swan song of all losers but still it gets to be shrill after a while, these morons always forget that GWB was reelected 4 years ago not eight and that their own hero Al Gore did not even win his own state these were the people that knew him best. Obama said on television that he wanted to take money from the middle class and spread it around , this is communism not just socialism. He is a nightmare not a King

Eleanor
The road we are on is paved with the good intentions of naive voters. The siren song of collectivism has been sung throughout history and all over the globe. Human nature is a constant, and since collectism is contrary to human nature, it has ALWAYS failed. The sad irony is that it is the very people that bring it on that bear the brunt. The wealthy investors, the skillful, the hard-working are the engine that produces wealth. They always make out. In a bustling economy, people just as worthy, but less talented, do OK too. When outcomes are made equal, those who have played the system continue to do so, but production goes down. There are less goodies to be shared. An economic crunch hits those at the bottom first. The very people who are trying to vote themselves prosperous by taxing the rich and spreading the wealth soon find there is no wealth to spread. They have killed the bird that lays the golden eggs. Cuba, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Bolivia are modern examples of govt establishing "fairness". Stone age level misery for all but the govt elite. Enjoy.

THIS IS BARACK OBAMAS ECONOMY

Good Bye Freedom, its been Wonderful!

A Vet Looks At Barack Obama
I'm a Vietnam veteran who after watching the DVD 'Obsession' about Islamic terrorism and reading Brigitte Gabriel's book 'Because They Hate' decided to find out what I could about Barack Obama. It has me truly concerned for this nation that I love. You can see the results of my research at http://countryfirst.bravehost.com/vetview.html

For me the most important link I found was an article on understanding Barack Obama at http://www.faithfreedom.org/obama.html

Media Electing our Next President
*
Because they Know they can.
Because US Education has been bankrupt for thirty years; Bankrupt of Truth, Self Awareness and the most basic skills; Reading,Writing and Math.

And that brings us to; Barack O Bama and the Brainless Dopes who support him, adore him with open mouths as he speaks, and disregard truth because they dont know what it is!

"To educate your children is to love your children"

REPEAL "CHANGE" 08

Laura Hollis -
Your article is amazing. Thank you for writing it.

Media ALONE! will elect Barak Obama
*
Greetings from Chicago where the Daley's serve ONLY the interest of the people, Patronage is KING, Corruption is our way of life and Obama means “CHANGE”.

And if you Rubes believe that, Barrack and Joe have a bridge they'd like to sell you, "To Nowhere".
_
The Bridge to nowhere! Barack and Joe; they both voted for it, TWICE!!! But does anybody know that?
Where is the Media? Busy winning an election by attacking children.
Who is Obama to lecture anyone on the economy or anything else!
A presidential contender who thinks there’s 57 states, possibly one more.
A man who missed the March at Selma by 5 years, who sat in a hate filled church for 20 years and said he never heard anything while his wife wrote her Masters thesis entitled, I Hate Whitey and only found pride in her own country when her husband ran for President.
A man who dose not believe acquiring our own natural resources to relieve gas prices or building more nuclear power plants will help his own people! But the waters will be parted and the planet healed.
With math skills and problem solving ability like that, he’s not qualified to run a Pop Stand let alone the biggest economy on earth.
When Barrack and Joe hook up with Nancy and Harry and Dickie and write the laws for lawyers instead of the people, This country's finished.....Maybe it already is.

Amen
Laura you Shown us the truth.Only the wise will see it. My "hope" is very small. Just like the Jews many Americans are blind to the truth, It is too "absolute" for them. They like their shades of grays too much. I pray that we continue to stand for Israel. I believe it is the only reason that the Lord still blesses us. :(

An inspired, incisive, insightful column
Thank you. I will reread it and pass it on to my friends and associates.

If you want the secular version,
Aesop has it. "The Frogs Who Wanted a King."
http://www.frogsonice.com/froggy/tales/aesop.shtml
We used to read Aesop in school.

Good column, but
we have asked for a king before. In fact, one faction tried to crown George Washington almost as soon as the Thirteen Colonies had finished a long, bitter war to free themselves from George III.

Washington had the wisdom to decline the crown. Franklin Roosevelt did not. If his doctors had miraculously extended his life, he might be in office to this day. Many spoke of John Kennedy in royal terms (e.g., "Camelot"), though his formal coronation was posthumous. We came to our senses long enough to depose Richard Nixon before he could become king. But in the last days of Clinton's blighted presidency, there was only half-joking discussion of electing him to a third term and as many more as he wanted. (Having failed to become king of the United States for life, he campaigned embarrassingly to become Secretary General of the U.N., -- in effect, king of the world.)

We lavish unseemly attention on foreign royalty, especially the inbred trash running the United Kingdom. We fantasize about royalty. Literally. Browse the fantasy and sci-fi sections of any library or bookstore, and you'll see acres of kings, queens, princesses, and knights. Republics evidently cannot fire the imagination of the preeminent republic on earth.

After more than two centuries of intermittent freedom from royalty and its myriad discontents, we are still obsessed with it. Perhaps the only remedy is another dose, administered good and hard. I have a feeling that we're going to get it no matter who wins the presidency this year.

THE SECOND COMING OF HARRY TRUMAN
On Election Day, November 4th this nation will witness an unprecedented event in the history of American electoral politics: the convergence of two Republican election cycles for presidential candidates:

One cycle goes back 140 years, the other 120 years; the former consists of six 28 year cycles (the last three of which fell on November 4th), while the later consists of four 40 year cycles falling on November 4th for the first time in history. Both cycles began in years that end in the number 8, were initiated by military heroes born in Ohio (where the McCain-Palin ticket was born) and saw at the start of their last cyclic rounds the election of Ronald Reagan and Richrad Nixon, two candidates from the West where McCain and Palin reside.

These two great converging cycles coincide with the birthday of 44th First Lady Laura Bush-the Lady Luck of Republican Presidential politics-and the 22nd anniversary of John McCain's first Senate election in 1986 (the day Tom Bradley lost his last election). These are just some of many astonishing signs indicating a surprising victory for John McCain and Sarah Palin in November.

Did Providence use Barack Obama to stop HIllary Clinton so that John McCain could fulfill his destiny and become 44th President of the United States? Are we about to see the Second Coming of Harry Truman on Election Day with Obama returning to the Senate in failure and defeat? The signs give a resounding yes! McCain will be our next President.

Click ApolloSpeaks and read my piece: "John McCain, Hero of Destiny: Signs and Cycles of Republican Victory" and see these marvels for yourself.

Thank You
and AMEN!

The Emperor Has No Clothes
Brilliant!! That was deeply meaningful and one of the best pieces I have read on what has gone wrong! You have pierced the heart of why we as a nation are close to electing so dubious a leader. Tremendous thanks to you for giving us a very clear point of reference. I know that politics will not save us and I believe that what Barack Obama intends will turn out to be a bitter pill indeed. God Have Mercy On Us.

dairyfarmermom
I have thought of Aesop's frogs and their handsome king many times in the last few months, and the Pied Piper of Hamelin comes to mind as well. And now comes Puck "What fools these mortals be". Used to be on the Comics page of the Sunday Sun-Telegraph in Pittsburgh.

Does Anyone Think Of Our Children?
I have an 18 month old granddaughter and I fear for her future.

Will she live under freedom or under a Dictatorship of social/political values of those who demand that we accept whatever comes our way without question?

Sorry, but my ancestors did not come to this country to be told how to live their lives, this was what they escaped from.

We fought against a Kingdom for freedom and now we just accept to be ruled by a few?

All soldiers that have fought and died for freedom of our country & others would have died in vain because of our stupidity.

The King Is Money
All any politician has to do is tell the people that he will give them more money and take care of them..But no one asks where the money comes from.

Not too long ago I asked a friend why she wanted to vote for Obama, she said he will help her financially. Then I asked her where the money will come from..She said; "They print it"
It didn't cross her mind that the government gets it's money from taxes of working Americans.

This is the ignorance that the public schools are teaching our children.

Profound! Proud to be in your company -
Folks! We have some wonderful people on our "side" in this matter. Say thanks that God, your parents, friends, teachers or whomever has granted the gift of discernment. It is a miracle. The Left is trying to prevent it from staying alive, in the schools, with the next generation, etc.

Please keep writing Laura. Inspiring and brilliant.

Mac is up 5 and O down 5 since

No love for the US

and hatred of white people, successful people, and corportions.

Vote McCain/Palin for believable change in DC.

Great article
I posted the comments below on Steve Chapman's article, but maybe they are more appropriate here. Needless to say, I am in total agreement with Laura's article.

We are a good people, we have a good country with a good constitution, but things are going sideways on us these days. Our representative governments (fed & state) just don't obey the law (our constitutions) anymore, and they certainly don't represent We the People anymore.

It is my perception that we have always wanted Washington and our state governments to do what makes sense to provide us with certain basic and necessary services. That's all.

And now we are in the midst of considering the election of our first socialist president of the USA, and the seat of our country's original battleground (New England) is clambering for this event to happen. It would appear that our government schools have failed all of us, even the seat of our nation's liberty.

I don't think this is a time to elect the Chicago bred socialist Obama as our president. McCain has his own faults, but he is clearly NOT a socialist, and he clearly loves this country.

Obama doesn't love America - he wants to change it - and if he does get elected, he will change it. For the worse.

Vote McCain-Palin on November 4.
///

Obama: the Prophecy
You need only look at the cover of November's Reader's Digest to see a picture of Obama with a bigger glow around his face. More frightening in that is the red cross under his picture. Advertisers know how to manipulate images; they aren't in the business of making mistakes. Obamessiah has been annointed by the press and Hollywood, all gods in their own minds.

Just wait until the chaos.

Give the people what they want
I have had the same thoughts, that we are unknowingly asking to change the Constitution. Washington's ability to set the precedents of the office, serve two terms, not be allowed a title of nobility, served us well. Obama and freinds lack or dislike of our historic form of government, and the public's ignorance are combining to produce the very thing we were formed to prevent. Ironic.

Concerning the bible and current times, I think the era of the judges were when "every man did what was right in his own eyes", seems an accurate description of where we are at too. The list of self-induced problems combined with a denial to accept any responsiblilty has led naturally to the demand of a strongman.

What insight
I can't say I "enjoyed" reading this, but sometimes the truth is painful and hard to look at. Thank you for giving voice to the truth.

Obama opens
up a triple digit lead. Republicans need not vote. Filibuster proof majorities for the Dems is a foregone conclusion. The world is rejoicing to see that America has finally wised up. Resistance is futile... The Borg.

Do we want a king?
Or do we want someone like a mommy to "make it all better?" IMO the youth contingent of the Obama supporters are so used to being tken care of that the idea of individual responsibility scares them. They are willing to yeild control to someone who promises to take care of everything.

The older voters who support Obama are just tired of being adults who have to stand on their own two feet.

Don Juan
With all due respect, you're all wet. If you think that Obama is a proponent of the United States as the founders intended, you are wrong.

If you believe that socialism is consistent with American ideals, you are wrong.

If you think that free market economy and socialism/communism are the same thing, you are wrong.

McCain may have his faults, but he loves this country, and he's no proponent of socialism.

Obama hates this country as is and wants to change it to something else. 'Redistribution of wealth' sound familiar? It should.

Thank You for Speaking Truth
Wonderful article. Hundreds of articles are being printed. Hundreds of talking heads speaking. In the mix there are a few like you speaking truth. There are others...Thomas Sowell and Rev. Harry Jackson Jr. to name two. To those of you who are hearing and seeing the Truth, please pray for America. We have never been perfect, but we have strayed far from where God intends America to be. We have lost our way and it is a moral problem. We are far down a path He doesn't want us to take. But, this will take fervent prayer. We need God's help. He is our answer, never the goverment.
Pray for Truth to be revealed and righteousness to prevail. Pray that God will not give us over to the evil we are embracing.

Biblical Insight
Just Check 1st and 2nd Kings--when did the Israelites sin most greivously -when Israel was the fattest and most prosperous--we have enjoyed Great prosperity, our "poor" have cell phones, cable or satellite TV,heating and air conditioning and if you make 10,000$ a year you are actually doing better than about 89% of the rest of the world. This article is good and the analogy fair...Big O wrote it on the sidewalk of his elementary school--"King Obama"---and as far as That Hawaiin birth certificate, compare O's to a real Hawaiin birth certificate, the difference is apparent even to my 6 year old granddaughter---go to ExposeObama.com they have them both, then you decide---NObama 08'

Laura Hollis: America asks for a king...
It simple when you look at situations with your logic and brains rather than feelings and emotions which all too often get you in deep!! Great article!!

It's very clear
to me (and you pointed out so poignantly)that America is exactly where it should be when a mojority of her citizens have abandoned God in favor of a moral relativism. A moral relativism lets you "do what feels good" as tauted in the 60's youth movement of (free)sex, drugs and rock n roll (don't get me wrong as I love rock)but the fundamentals of this "philosopy" goes much deeper. It mandates one to throw off what one knows to be inherently true, false, right or wrong in order to live a life of relative truth and shades of gray. Our founding fathers even stated in our most precious document(s). In this case the U.S. constitution in which they told us point blank that our form of government was not designed for a non religious people. They are proving their point! NOW GET BACK TO WORK! Millions of illegal immigrants on entitlement programs are depending on YOU!

Trust
We can trust our leaders to do only one thing:

"We have learned by sad experience that it is the nature and disposition of almost all men, as soon as they get a little authority, as they suppose, they will immediately begin to exercise unrighteous dominion." Joseph Smith

When will we ever learn?

Thank You Laura
The parallel between 1 Samuel 8 and our current situation is hard to dismiss. I have also thought that God may have sent us an Esther(see entire Book of Esther) or a Deborah(see Judges 4-5) in the form of Sarah Palin.

I like many feel that this will be the most significant election of our lifetimes. The choice could not be clearer. Pray my friends that God will have mercy on our country and then go vote. A good day to all.

Laura Hollis knocks it out of the park
Laura- this has been a thought that has been going through my mind for some time with the same application of Biblical history. America is wrongly crying for a king because it has lost sight of the One Whom should be the real King.

When Israel slid into secularism they wanted to be like the other kingdoms- completely like how America has been secular for a long time.

Maybe when King Obama oppresses the masses then will the people cry out that they have disobeyed God.

Don Juan
Don Juan: Obama seems to understand this, which is what you would expect from the former president of the Harvard Law Review.

LOL! How come a "esteemed" president of the Harvard Review has no record to examine? No output.

Seems he good at holding titles like Senator or President of the Harvard Review and not being able to point to the output one would expect from someone who would be any kind of successful president.

Buddy you are really leaning on "hope" that someone who has done nothing but run for the next name tag on his door will suddenly become PERSONALLY productive.

To slap down McCain and advance Obama as better is the kind of ignorance about what people should value in their leader that have people like myself frightened to death of this do nothing guy.

I actually hope now if he gets in he can't get ANYTHING done he wants to do because our only hope is he can't implement this socialist crap.

Laura Hollis is correct, but....

As usual, Laura Hollis is quite correct. But I must add that McCain (by way of further ratifying her point) abandoned Republican fiscal, government, and nanny-state restraint in supporting the bailout and in particular by calling for the $300 billion mortgage program to keep people in their homes. The first maxim of restrained government is: don't just do something, stand there. How much per job will the trillion-dollar bailout cost us? Market mechanisms (oil prices, sane methods of buying houses) are already making a significant dent at zero taxpayer cost.

Don Juan
OK, there are two main concepts about law. One is that law, as written and intended, is absolute. The other is that law is subject to interpretation. You obviously fall into the second category, and I into the first.

My answer to you regarding laws that are no longer applicable is that the laws can be changed, but cannot be interpreted differently than the law's authors intended.

Do we have a lot of laws that should be changed or removed? Yes.

Should we allow executive or judicial branch government figures to interpret what the legislature intended? No. Separation of Powers doctrine.

There is a legislative mechanism for changing the Constitution. Why aren't we doing that? Maybe it's because the government knows the people would not stand for the changes government wants to make. The Second Amendment comes to mind as an example. So, government just runs outside the law, and misleads the people in the process. True for both parties.

Is this wrong? You bet. And do we need to get the people back into law enforcement? You betcha!

Obama is an attorney, maybe of questionable stature, but he is an attorney, and is consciously competent when it comes to manipulating the law. He knows full well that our Constitutional laws do not support socialism, and yet he will try to determine ways to work outside the law. I guess that would make him an outlaw.

If anyone wants to change our laws, using the legislature is much better than using the executive or judiciary branches of government.

BTW, your economics teacher would not be proud of how you misinterpret free markets and how they work.

POLLS
It's the silent majority out there, the one's that hang-up on pollsters and the others who tell them what they want to hear, that will change this election.

When people do their own polls, it's nothing like the national polls. McCain signs outnumber Obama signs in areas where Kerry was dominate in 2004. When people have nagging questions, they will go with the safe choice.

The Obama PC correctness has altered the polls to a point they are meaningless.

Re: Don Juan
... an appropriate name ... a hedonistic sleeze bag.

Reader's Digest? Who reads that "tired old rag"? ... probably the same people who read the other "tired old rag" called the Constitution.

calling the Bush/Cheney administration a dictatorship? The only people threatening dictatorial authoritarianism are the left wing politicians and thugs who can't stand even one voice in opposition to their self aggrandizement ... suppressing freedom of speech on college campuses with thugs that would be more appropriately dressed in "brown shirts" and vehemently attacking any news venue that dares to challenge their ideology.

The Constitution isn't a "framework" to be "improved on". It's a foundation not to be tampered with based on historical lessons that nations have been inclined to repeat over and over again through the ages historically recorded as observed by a group of men with ageless, not "agrarian", intelligence.

The author's point isn't a Bible story. It's recorded history. The Old Testament is a history of the Jews as related in the Works of Josephus in a more historical venue.

Don Juan thinks he's smart ... not. He's not even original. Read some of the writings of Karl Marx from 150 years ago and you'll find the left wing rant hasn't changed either in vocabulary or phraseology.

Excellent article
and gets to the point of the appeal of anyone who promises to bring heaven on earth. Such a promise is false and brings ultimate misery.

"entitlement" illusions
A Federal budgeting course made plain the difference between Congress' "entitlement" and "discretionary" spending. "Entitlement" spending referred to such as Social Security, Medicare,Veterans Benefits which - as contractual - the Congress was required to expend. "Discretionary" spending was in effect what Congress had any choice about - including defense. Currently the entitlement piece of the pie is over 50%! With the population's aging and the decreasing birth rate the entitlements - especially Medicare - will become unsustainable! Far from being miserly with the old, Bush - in the vain hope of thereby attracting votes - added prescription drug benefits to an already tottering Medicare. And now Obama claims that by running after rich folks who have taken up residence in Switzerland with their "undeserved" riches he can "cure" the entitlement shortfall!
The "entitlements" are a Grand Illusion. The less numerous young can't (and won't) support the 90 year old geezers. How will this bubble burst? I think by the Treasury printing scads of relatively worthless money to and so "pay off" the so-called sacred obligations.

By the way ...
... great article.

Decline & Fall
Several years ago there came to my attention a quote from a book written by Alexander Fraser Tyler, who lived at the end of the 18th century and the early part of the 19th century (1748-1813). He wrote a book entitled, The Decline and Fall of the Athenian Republic. It is amazing that the following quotation from that book, written about ancient democracy, long before American democracy had been really tested, is so timely. Tyler wrote:

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves money from the Public Treasury. From that moment on the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the Public Treasury with a result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy always followed by dictatorship. The average age of the world’s greatest civilizations has been 200 years. These nations have progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From great courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to selfishness;
From selfishness to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependency back to bondage.”

Don Juan
Wow, talk about a subject change.

OK, regarding the Berg v Obama case, the matter is being appealed to the U.S. Supreme Court, which may be the court of original jurisdiction. We'll see. More on this matter at: http://www.obamacrimes.com.

If Obama is an American citizen, his proper vetting by the DNC, the American press, and by his voluntary and open submission of appropriate documents like his COB, college documents, etc. would answer everybody's questions.

Having said that, Obama has released nothing substantial about his background. Why is that? Why do his stories change at different times? Why should anyone believe this guy is anything but a fraud?

I believe, contrary to the lower court's finding, that Obama will be found to be a native born son of Kenya, and not American at all. IMHO.

You seem to imply a certain understanding of the law, but I do find some of your conclusions inconsistent with my own understanding of the law. Are you an attorney?

BTW, McCain, unlike Obama, has been vetted, and he IS a citizen because he was born to American parents at a U.S. facility in Panama.

AMEN! Wonderful Post!
I was blown away by this post! So thoughtful, well written and all backed up in God's word! I hope you won't mind, I have posted a link to your article on my McCain space blog page for all McCain Palin supporters to see. I wish everyone in America could read your article before Nov 4th. I pray we are not be in for the Coronation of "King Obama". John McCain is ready to lead and with Sarah Palin by his side my hope is that they will get the chance. I just can't wait to see what these two mavericks together can do up in DC to turn Washington politics as ususal upside down!

Laura Hollis - It has always been so.

Laura Hollis wrote: "Americans’ attitude toward this posturing, self-important, political zealot remind me of the Israelites’ demand for a king, as recounted in the Book of Samuel"

Indeed. It is often said that those who do not know the past are doomed to repeat it. It is a terrible irony that those who DO know the past and who would *not* repeat those mistakes are dragged down along with those who do not know, or even care.

It has always been so.

"The thing that hath been, it [is that] which shall be; and that which is done [is] that which shall be done: and [there is] no new [thing] under the sun. [10] Is there [any] thing whereof it may be said, See, this [is] new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us. [11] [There is] no remembrance of former [things]; neither shall there be [any] remembrance of [things] that are to come with [those] that shall come after." (Ecclesiastes 1:9-11, KJV)

May God have mercy on this nation, and withhold His judgment against us until this ungodly generation is past, that those who come after might turn once again to Him.

Re: Don Juan and hedonism
Sport, even sinners can become saints.

First, you have to admit you made a mistake. I think McCain has admitted to many.

Obama simply excuses or denies his ... conveniently.

You advise to check the resume. A good idea. Recommend this to the people that want to vote for Obama.

Where are his friends ... from high school, college, law school, Chicago? What do we really know about him other than the friends he's had to disown or disavow ... or his current political cronies. Harvard law graduates are a dime a dozen in DC and editor of the Harvard Law Review ceased to have any meaning back in the 1970's when they opted to introduce "diversity". Elmer Gantry could inspire a crowd at a tent revival but ... he was still Elmer Gantry. Barack Obama is the brass ring that the progressive socialists (the Harvard University inspired ideology) have been reaching for on their carousel for more than a 100 years when their new president was hired in the late 1860's to save the nearly dead college with revolutionary new ideas brought back from his European tour circa Karl Marx.

Obama isn't change. He's simply the same old socialist dogma repackaged for the new millennium. Unwrap the package and the same old antiquated, disproven and fetid aroma will overwhelm you.

How about his buddy, George Soros, whom he went to visit in New York in January of 2007 right before he began his campaign (as reported in the NY Times), the guy that's been trying to buy the US presidency for at least 8 years? Now there's an upright citizen of the world who learned how to manipulate the system when he was a teenager in Hungary, learned that money buys power and influence and is an expert at manipulating the masses (as well as the markets) for personal gain. I wish I could have been a fly on the wall during that meeting.

Dude, you're either a brainless sheep or a true believer.

Of course, the left wants a king.
Anybody who doubts that Obama is actually worshiped by the left should read this article on the HuffPo: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/frank-schaeffer/obama-will-b e-one-of-the_b_132843.html

It is the worst piece of debased idol worship I've ever seen. And time after time after time, when I speak with Obama supporters, this article is EXACTLY their sentiment. Read it. If it doesn't chill you, the nothing will.

Don Juan
So, in your opinion, it would seem that whatever direction this election takes, we're headed for a Constitutional crises. Interesting. I hope you are wrong.

You also said: "The Constitution was built on the framework of the common law; where our law is silent, it controls. Your concept of separation of powers doesn't comport with its real-world application, and it is probably too late in the day to change that."

I agree with your statement 1) that the Constitution was based on English law and on common law, and by 'it' I assume you mean Common Law controls. Common law is good because it invariable follows the common man's reason, logic, and common sense in arriving at conclusions. But with Berg v Obama we're talking civil litigation, not common law. And that involves the written law, and includes the Constitution.

I disagree with your statement 2) that it is too late in the day. It's never too late.

Your background is excellent, and I laud you for pursuing as much education and certification as you have. Not everyone has the freedom, intelligence, stamina and dedication to do so.

Having said that, I think you tend to complicate matters far beyond their normal range. You understand too much, and need to rise back up to the 50,000 level to once again see things clearly and simply.

At any rate, my belief is that if you were able to see into the future on a higher level (maybe as a result of understanding history better), you would not be promoting Obama as you are.

My opinion is that lawyers obfuscate too much.

GTG. Have a good one.

Just so right...
This is one of the best examples I've seen as to what's happening here. We are a people who have lost our way and have forgotten where to look for answers. Jesus said, "I Am the Way, the Truth and the Life..."

So many times the example of Saul has come to mind. You, Miss Hollins, have articulated it so very well.

Kudos. And God bless you.
loquacious?

Don Juan
I've read your silly little tract on the U.S. Cont. Don't tell me....I just KNOW (among other "adjustments") you want to eliminate the Electoral College. Am I right?

I just hope when the country
comes tumbling down be it by attacks from outside or economic collapse -- it is the people who voted for it that bare the burden.

You vote so that you can take money from other people than I hope when the economy collapses you are the ones who are most impacted.

You vote because you want the military weakened I hope that if we are attacked it isn't in a location that supported defense spending.

You vote for national healthcare - I hope that it is you and yours that first are told to go home and die because it is too expensive to treat you.

I sound cruel, but the truth is many people are bringing this on not only themselves but all of us because they are greedy and want what they have not earned. Or they are so afraid to be responsible for themselves they will gladly hand over what few freedoms we still have so that their secular "messiah" will take care of them and make all of life's hard decisions.

We will all be enslaved to our government, but these people don't seem to care because for them life shouldn't have any hard times or responsibilities. It is like they wish to be permanent children.

Thanks, Laura
Great column. I had this very conversation with a friend this morning. The parallels between Israel during the time of Samuel and Saul and the US now are undeniable.

Unless we open our eyes, turn back to God and the ideals that help found this country, and elect leaders who will do the same, we are headed toward long decline.

Eleanor: If universal healthcare and tax credits (i.e. checks) to people whose tax liability is negative aren't "being taken care of" I don't know what is. Govt that intervened less in our lives and took less money would leave plenty for everyone to live on or share with others.

Don Juan: "From each according to their ability, to each according to their need" as Marx described it is not charity, it is government redistributing income. If I as an individual decide to give money to people and causes, that is charity.

Eleanor
You're not on target. Why should left wingers look for a King when they have The Messiah.

I wish it were not true...
You are so right on...Thank you. I hope it's not too late. I am praying God will not give our nation what we deserve, but perhaps He will show us mercy.

Great article
Right on the money.

Don Juan
Not that you are on the board but is that the best you have got to go after John McCain?

I think he copped to the idea he wasn't a serious person till after the POW experience in his RNC speech so let's wipe all that out for starters. You can include the divorce too buddy unless you are willing to indict our many soldiers who didn't reconnect upon returning home. Judging his divorce is weak and the fact it is so far back makes it even weaker as to what kind of President we will get. His ex-wife has nothing bad to say on the manner but your opinion counts more I am sure (Obots and their ego).

Obama on the other hand shows absolutely no signs that he has had a tranformational expereince like John's to make us believe this past is anything but prolog to the future.

Obama admits to nothing and stood by HIS decision to join Wright's church till it reflected too badly on him.

It is no comparison if you have to go after Cindy McCain's RX problem and her money.

The BEST part that is so laughable that you say Cindy's money bought elections for McCain THAT FROM AN OBAMA SUPPORTER!!BUYING AN ELECTION! MR I WILL TAKE PUBLIC MONEY TO LEVEL THE PLAYING FIELD!!! HOW DOES 600 MILLION GRAB YA!

Why do you bother embarrassing yourself with stuff that indicts your own candidate!

Don Juan; typical kool-aid drinker
Hey Dumbo Don; I would rather have a President who used his wife's money than one who is using terrorist, far-left idiots, and the corrupt ACORN bunch.

The pastor's sermon this morning was on this same subject. Grown ups who want everything free! If you get what you want, I hope your ilk will be the ones who pay first!!!!

DEAD TO RIGHTS
Absolutely the finest article I have read this campaign season.

This is a must-read for all who vote.

Send this to everyone you know.

Hoping for Utopian Nobless-Oblige'
That is the characteristic thought process of a typical young liberal.... I Know, I was raised that way until converted.

Keep in mind, the Leninists had a similar idea, a group of moral comrades who would lead called the intelligentsia. They would be the ones to charter the course for the dull-witted proletariat (us of course)... In the end, the intelligentsia could never give up power and ended up handing it to Stalinists. They ruled by terror and suppression of news, truth and commerce (much as we see with Obamabaniacs) and subsequently murdered some sixty-million human beings during the 20th Century in the name of the state.

Intelligentsia, Emperors, Kings, Dictators, Unchecked Liberal Democrats…. All the same thing in the end… The only thing that can protect us from total insanity of royal-styled rule is the constitution and I am not sure about that any more. Woe will be unto us if ever a Barack Obama, by serendipitous tragedy is required to declare martial law, we will never overcome his and the Democrat apparatchiks jealous hold on power. The constitution would never be restored.

This lesson
Should be taught from every pulpit next Sunday.
I fear for our country if this man, who is the most secretive candidate ever, becomes our POTUS.

This is beyond a doubt the best article I have read on this subject
Kudos Laura

Excellent!
This is well-written and makes an excellent point.

While we're on the topic of kings, it should be noted: a leader does not have to be called a "king" to still have the power of a king. China is called the "People's Republic of China," after all, but I sure prefer our republic to theirs! Maybe this point's been made already; I haven't read all 89 comments.

Kudos, Laura!

Obama's Marxist Statement

The idea that 'Sacrifice For The Common Good' supersedes private interests and rights can have but one meaning: that the interests and rights of some 'Collectivist Group' take precedence over the interests and rights of others.

Anyone who has ever studied Game Theory in mathmatics has heard about 'Zero Sum Theory'.

One of the things I learned in Game Theory was that 'zero sum' is an interaction in which one participant's gains result only from another's equivalent losses.

When Liberals and Democrats (collectivists) institute their solutions like 'Affirmative Action', the rights they give to the 'collectivist group' in favor, results in taking rights from others who are in dis-favor or in other words "moral equivalence".

Every United States Citizen should have the same rights and protections under the United States Constitution and Bill of Rights - no more - no less.

Liberals and Democrats believe this "moral equivalence" promotes justice and the well being of the American Citizen and displays the Liberal "moral superiority" over Conservatives.

Barack Obama's clarion call to "Sacrifice for the Common Good" - to redistribute wealth, as Obama said to 'Joe the Plumber', "letting those behind catch up".

Karl Marx's slogan, 'from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs'.

Someone explain the difference?

Good column, Ms. Hollis
A relevant verse:

Ps 28:5
Because they do not regard the works of the LORD, or the work of his hands,
he will break them down and build them up no more.
RSV

.........
Great article. Bravo.

I agree~
I have often thought of the same passage of Scripture when I think of the idol worship of Obama. I can't believe our nation has come to this.

The Bible says "Do not covet." The liberal left, with its class warfare mentality, is promoting coveting.

.........
Liberal idiots [redundancy] would be completely content with a totalitarian so long as he/she calls themselves a democrat. Liberals are all for squashing free speech so long as it's done under the liberal banner. Liberals are all for squashing secret ballots so long as it's done under the liberal banner. Liberals are all for war so long as it's done under the liberal banner. Liberals are all for bastardizing the Constitution so long as it's done under the liberal banner. Liberals are all for nationalizing industries so long as it's done under the liberal banner.

Liberals, thy name is fascist.

America's king
This is the most powerful and insightful analysis of the election I have yet read. Your comments are penetrating and disturbing -- because they have the ring of truth. A remarkable piece.

Another GREAT article Ms. Hollis.....
and I totally agree with your assessment......it's very HARD to resist the entertaining thought of giving the liberals what they clamor for....their proverbial Saul.....so they can see firsthand the kind of change "they can believe in"......lmao....

Thankfully, the Lord is ALWAYS good...and must count the 50 or less....

Kathleen Parker...
....needs to read this article.

Don Juan IL Oct 27, 2008 - 7:49 AM EST

Back again, eh? You never answered my post from yesterday afternoon.

On your recent comments to Michael, we are in agreement. I never expected that.

New King
Excellent column Laura. Please keep up the good work.
Best
Paul B

The King
The Israelites wanted a because they knew that only the richest would be taxed. It served them so well...

THE KING OF THE UNITED NATIONS
Obama wants to be the king of the UN, I pray that President McCain appoint him to the group of want to be leaders. It would be great for the United States and he could work with all the socialist until his heart was content. Voting for McCain is paving the way for Barack to be king, that is what he wants to be king of the world. The Presidency is only his second choice besides it has a statute of limitations. Obama can serve the world the rest of his life. This will only work if Obama is selected and not elected. To please the world and be globally accepted it is our duty to elect McCain/Palin but the president have to appoint Obama to the United Nations. It is the place he will be appointed king of the world.

Totally Illogical
What on earth has quoting the bible got to do with a tax and spend policy. Lady, look at a calendar, its 2008, not the year 0. I dispair the way people in the US look at current world issues and apply a 2000 year old book written by simple folk for simpler times.

Why not tell us what the first Harry Potter book tells you you need to do about Healthcar.

The King
has no clothes

Hey, Idopas
People are people. The make the same stupid mistakes now that they did thousands of years ago. In fact, if ANYTHING, I would submit that the American public's bizarre adulation of this know-nothing runs counter to the theory of evolution: haven't people learned ANYTHING in - oh, say - five thousand years or so?

As for Harry Potter and Healthcare, why, that's right up Obama's alley. After all, just look at Hawaii: wave your magic wand, and POOF! Health care for all children! And then seven months later, wave your magic wand, and POOF! Oops! It's gone! Disappeared! Because too many people wanted something for nothing. Just like they do with Obama's health care plan. Just like the folks from the Bible wanted x-number of thousands of years ago.

Thank You Laura!
Concise and important! Thank you so much for this clear cut version of what is really happening!

Laura - what can we do to make sure this message is reaching America? What is the answer with a corrupt main stream media?

RIGHT ON LAURA HOLLIS ! USA,USA !!!!
OBAMA IS A BAD CHOICE,HE IS RUNNING ON THE COMBO-BAD SEA FOOD PLATTER,FOR PRESIDENT AND FALSE MESSIAH! WE VOTED EARLY FOR MCCAIN-PALIN ! AND KNOW THE REAL MESSIAH IS JESUS CHRIST!THANKS LAURA FOR YOUR ARTICLE!

This is so True
We have helped to create a nation of lazy whiney babies , that refuse to save money , do drugs, steal , lie , have jobs , but refuse to do their best , they want to tell everyone else how to do their jobs , but never look at what they do , they will not abide by the laws of our land and when they get in trouble its always someone else's fault, or poor babies are poor and never had a chance at anything good happen to them now they need sympathy and give them their freedom to continue to make their living off the back of the ones who will work. I'm tired of having a government that does nothing until the sky starts to fall.....We need to elect people with a high moral standard and start with the congress , get rid of the democrats that are obstructing the rest from doing the right thing for our country.

Possibly too late to (re)turn to God
Laura,

You wrote:
"Neither McCain nor Obama is a king who will save us; we must turn instead to the only One who can."

I fear we have rendered null and void the promise
"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."
(2 Chronicles 7:14).

We spent nearly all of the 1990s listening to those who would scratch our "itchy ears" (a reference to Timothy), glorifying the lie and the liar. Our courts have become places where justice, ethics, and morality are no longer relevant.

So while it seems that some may compare the present situation to a Babylonian Exile of sorts, take heart that we're in good company. And remember that another nation who asked for a king ultimately spent 70 years in their exile.

We may want to take a deep breath and ride this one out.

that philosophy is utterly anti-American
So once again we have someone on the far right claiming to be the determinator of who is a "real American".

Well we're ALL real Americans; even the ones who disagree with you.

Every Western Democracy implements a governing philosophy which is a balance of socialist and capitalist ideals.

It is perfectly reasonable to say we've lost our balance and need to go the other way a bit...

To believe that Republicans have gone so far past reasonable and that we are heading into fascist territory that there is a need to pull back.

That this economic crisis can be laid at the feet of the over libertarians.

Obamamercial
"That one" and his wife, never only say he/they are in this for the USA, but there is always a reference to how he will "change the world."
Hopefully enough of us can read between the lines and vote for the real one, who is putting this country first!

It is definitely time for a change!
We are not asking for a king, we are asking for change. You people are not ready for a minority to lead this country and you are using the Bible to "extort" your way into telling others how to vote. This sickens me. Remember, the Bible speaks of all and not just "white" America because America is not "white". This land was built on the sweat of slaves and let us not forget that Native Americans inhabited this land before the English. He will be no different from any other leaders and it is our job as "Christians" to "pray" for guidance for God and continue to pray for our leaders and not chose them by the color of their skin, which is what you are all doing.

What?
Regarding the comment posted by "sick," this has nothing whatsoever to do with Obama's status as a minority. It's all about his policies and vision for America. The Obama campaign is the only one who has made race an issue.

Obama is running on a smoke and mirrors promise of "change" and "hope" backed by the force of his personality; while recyling the kinds of policies that failed miserably during the Jimmy Carter era. Don't be fooled!

Back to Self-Reliance
Why can't people see that Obama is setting a trap? The only way out of our current mess is for as many individuals as possible to become as self reliant as possible. I find it richly ironic that we will be standing on the precipice of impending slavery if we choose to elect the first black president. There are plenty of black men who would have been more qualified for the job of President, and the one with the best chance of being elected ever is one who would make us tools of a government machine.

Now that's sick!

The King!
Ms Hollis you have beautifully summerized the state of our nation. How far we have fallen in such a short time. My only consolation is that God is allowing this to happen so that, as we reap what we've sown, this country might return to Him.

Obama IS THE ANTI-CHRIST
REPENT FOR THE END IS VERY NEAR. OBAMA-THE ANTI-CHRIST WILL TAKE OFFICE IN JANUARY. WAKE UP AMERICA.

obama
rather than live under a communist like obama we would be better off if the military took over and ran things, they couldnt screw it up any worse than it already is,i see no other alternative to get out of the mess we are in

Sick is Sick
I love it when the ObamaMorons show up here. You don't know what you want, because if you did it would not be a demagogue such as Obama.

This article puts it right to you leftists. Perhaps if the author had used a Muslim quotation, you'd be more tolerant of her point. Simply put, no society survives very long, or very well, under a creation such as Obama.

As Malcom X foretold, there has been bamboozling. Already, Obama's backpedaling on his idea of "change." Gosh, his worshipers shouldn't expect what his rhetoric promised, it's such a hard job after all. The Brits get it: http://elections.foxnews.com/2008/10/31/obama-lays-plans-k ill-expectations-election-victory/.

I no longer care about the difference between a far left liberal and a Democrat. Win or lose, I intend to vote "NO" on everything Democrat -- right down to the non-partisan races and initiatives.

Anger and hurt
I had a "WWII vet" at my job the other day, a red, white, and blue cap, a patriotic coat, military pins on his hat, and a big sweat shirt that said, "Obama, we need a change". I was so angry I was about ready to lose my job by speaking out the truth. I have lived my life using my art talent to support Veterans and those in active duty, I have spent thousands of hours of money and work to put together programs and displays in honor of our Vets of the past wars, for the last 20 years, but this Veterans Day will be the last. I have seen so many Vets go to vote to a man who has no love for our country, no concern for the history of our forefathers, who wants to change our National Anthumn, take away our Constitutional history, remove the Pledge of Alegience, and destroy our military forces! How can a man who hates our country and the history of what it was formed and created for, "In God We Trust", "One Nation Under God" or "Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord", be wanted as the president of the United States. I am ashamed of our "Americans" who do not look at the sacrifices that have been paid for their freedom, and vote in a man who doesn't have any love for my country. Let me ask you this, would this man that is being voted in as The President of The United States" be willing to put on a uniform and take a gun, willing to give his life for the freedoms of this country? I think not. He difinately would not be a "I regret that I have but one life to give for my country". I am ashamed of the people of this nation that does not recognize and Anti-American right before their eyes.

God's Will
My grandmother ended each prayer in "have your will in our lives". What ever happened to praying for God to have his will?
Maybe that is why the last eight years have been like they are, maybe in 2000 and 2004 people prayed "give us a republican" and not "have your will God, you know what is best for us". Maybe we already have had our Saul.
Today, start asking God to have his will in this election and our country and our land will be healed. People can't turn to God if He hasn't prepared their hearts no matter how many political articles are written. God isn't a democrat or republican, he is lover of people.

unfair
Got to your site through a link by Greg Laurie and I'm embarassed coz I expected a Biblical approach to the campaign. Instead of that I read very extremist views (almost personal attacks) In fact to me you were campaigning for McCain, period!!! I guess it is a shame

God's Word will alway offend...
I believe what you said was strictly from the Word of God....I had never read this article until today...and I had woke up this morning and the story of Samuel and the King is what God put in my spirit...I re read it and had just sent emails for my friends to go and read it as well....truly amazing....God's Word has and always will offend those who don't want to obey it...
I pray for America....that even after it has willingly turned a deaf ear to the commandments of God to preserve life and the sanctity of marriage....that God will move the new leaders hearts to bring us back to a nation that is once again under God...
I will pray for our new president and newly elected officials that God will give them wisdom and direction...
God rules....not the democrats or the republicans....
Only He can heal our land....and it's not too late if we'll begin to call on Him....and ask Him for help...As one preacher put it..."It's not just "God bless America" but will America bless God????
