Poll
Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

In one of my favorite episodes of "Star Trek," Captain Kirk is mistaken for a god by inhabitants of a planet of Native Americans (it's a long story). The illusion works for Kirk until a jealous shaman cuts Kirk's hand, revealing that the divine being is just a man after all. "Behold! A god who bleeds!" the shaman mocks, exposing Kirk as a fraud to the rest of the tribe.

It may sound like a stretch -- and, let's be fair, it is -- but I keep thinking of that episode when I look Barack Obama's poll numbers these days.

Culture of Corruption by Michelle Malkin FREE

He's bleeding on every front. The latest Pew survey shows that only 38 percent of Americans approve of his handling of the economy. In the latest Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll, fewer than half of respondents (48 percent) say Obama can be trusted to keep his word. Gallup has his approval rating at a new low of 52 percent, and Rasmussen has it below 50 percent for the first time.

On almost every domestic issue, polls show that support for Obama and his agenda is plummeting, and that the Democratic Party's advantages over Republicans on the economy, taxes, the deficit and health care have been erased or severely reduced.

All presidents go through rough patches, and Obama's no exception. Odds are his poll numbers will get better -- and worse -- in the years to come. All of this is typical.

But this misses a crucial point: Obama isn't supposed to be a typical politician. He was supposed to be The One. He was supposed to change Washington. Transcend race. Fix souls. Bake 12-minute brownies in seven minutes.

Oprah promised Obama would help us "evolve to a higher plane." Deepak Chopra said Obama's presidency represented "a quantum leap in American consciousness." Last month, Newsweek editor Evan Thomas proclaimed that Obama stood "above the country, above -- above the world, he's sort of God."

Well, now he's the god who bleeds, and once you're the god who bleeds, it's hard to get the divinity back in the tube, as it were.

Obama undoubtedly has major accomplishments ahead of him, but in a real way the Obama presidency is over. His messianic hopey-changiness has been exposed for what it was, and what it could only be: a rich cocktail of pie-eyed idealism, campaign sloganeering and profound arrogance. Continued...

I loved being called stupid and lumped in with stereotypes on the right, but you need to do a bit of reading somewhere other than "People" magazine.
1. Liberals "anointed" Obama, not conservatives. We just made fun of it.
2. Not all of us, or even most of us, are "birthers" - but he could sure shut it down with one document. Of course, a Messiah is above all that.
3. I almost always research before writing - but the internet is a great place to do it, so how is that "not research"?
4. Conservatives only say "no" - have you read ANY of the proposals by Boehner and others on healthcare, energy, stimulus, etc.? Just because one disagrees and has the (current) power to ignore doesn't mean we only say no.
5. Look at the deficit figures before you blather - and remember that Clinton proposed much larger budgets than he could ever get past Newt.
6. Our emerging leaders may not be the personalities that Obama is, but leaders needn't be. I am beginning to wonder if that's all he is - a narcissist with a personality.
7. Our stale old ideas made this country the richest and most powerful on the planet - the Euro ideas of the left have failed everywhere - so why try them here? Fads are seldom useful or permanent.

'Conservative extremism,' huh? part II
balanced says:
"[Obama's] not someone who would lie his way into a war and kill hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis."

-- He does seem awfully good at lying his way into and out of everything else, though.

balanced says:
"He wouldn't be dilly-dallying while New Orleans is under water."

-- No. Only while the entire country is under water. Or in the flames.

Hey, Rahmy, hand me that fiddle over there, would you?

balanced says:
"He's a good man."

-- Yow.

balanced says:
"I say again; the more conservatives talk like this, the more stupid and desperate they appear."

-- Let's wait a bit on that, OK? There's time. Anything can happen.

Besides, you sound pretty defensive yourself, and that's generally a good indication of no small amount of stupidity and desperation.

Anyway, there's hardly anything stupider and more desperate than the rush to destroy the greatest country and economy on the earth simply for self-aggrandizement and the expansion of power for self and tribe.
