Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Conservatives are thrilled with the selection of Sarah Palin as John McCain's running-mate. Scroll through the postings at RobinsonandLong.com, or listen to the hosts and callers on any of the talk shows today.

There are six reasons, all of them huge and enduring.

First, over the past month we have gone from hoping Senator McCain would win to thinking he might actually be able to win. With the selection of Governor Palin most of us are convinced he will win. Which means the country will be well led on the war for at least another four crucial years. The reason behind this new confidence leads us to the second factor.

Sarah Palin is a real deal conservative, down the line, on all of the issues. This has the immediate effect of energizing the base to battle to keep the White House and to close the gap in or take back the House of Representatives. It is especially important that she is ardently pro-life, and the story of her family is certain to resonate with those values voters who prize faith and family as the center of life.

Third, the Palin pick guarantees that the party will remain a conservative party long-term. If Senator McCain had picked a pro-choice Republican or had asked his friend and great American Joe Lieberman to run with him, the party would truly have been split. That didn't happen, and Matt Cunningham summarizes the response among conservatives party activists:

McCain took a major step forward in exciting the GOP's conservative base at Rick Warren's forum. For example, I spoke with a prominent local conservative activist who was so enthused by McCain's performance who bought a plane ticket for Minneapolis the next.

The Palin choice boosts and accelerates that process. Like me, Palin is 44 years old. She came of age politically during the Age of Ronald Reagan. To a conservative movement that has grown tired and enervated, she has demonstrated you can run, win and successfully govern on conservative principles in the face of the government-accommodating Republicanism that has infected so much of the party.

Fourth, the GOP already owned the energy issue and and the energy issue dominates and will continue to dominate the next 60 days. Even if Sarah Palin doesn't persuade John McCain to come out for exploring ANWR now, a vigorous exploration/conservation strategy has an ideal spokesperson in Palin.

Fifth, she is not a Beltway Republican. The modern GOP is the party of Reagan and Bush --both westerners, and very outside-the-Beltway. Neither ever succumbed to the Beltway's many poisons.

John McCain is clearly outside of his party's recent tradition, much more of the Eisenhower, above-partisanship nationalist than the movement conservative, comfortable as a Beltway big, on easy terms with the permanent political elite of the country from both parties and the Beltway-Manhattan media elite.

McCain, of course, understands the war and is the steel for the next crucial few years of resolve that victory in the war requires. A Vice President Palin will be a voice for the conservative movement in the Administration and for the party outside of the Beltway. The long run of Congressional power drained a lot of the energy from the GOP when it came to the battle of ideas, and Palin is a representative of the non-Beltway GOP that wants very much to get back into that fray. Winning the war remains the first priority, and Supreme Court justices after that, but on a host of key issues Governor Palin represents the reagan wing of the party, and that's a great thing.

Sixth and finally, she is young enough to be a bridge to the next generation, and with five kids, she has been living in the world of young moms and technology-dependent teens. This advantage will be hard to quantify, but when she is out on the trail talking about her kids and her family's path, it will be a huge counterpoint to the Obama's narrative, one that underscores that millions of American families are conservative, traditional, proud of their country and full of optimism about the future if the government's burdens do not grow to large and the country's enemies are kept in retreat.

There is a lot of enthusiasm out there, and given these reasons, it will endure until November.

From conservative relief to happy days
Saddleback was relief and Palin is happy days!!

A new Reagan begining is occuring. An American Thatcher who resume is sooo good! Obama is going to find out what an energized conservative movement means. WOW!

Hugh, I agree with you...
But you should have mentioned that just yesterday you were absolutely sure that Palin would not be the person selected. You may have had good reason to think that but I think a full disclosure should have been made.

Keep up the good work. Love your show!

Political Courage

AGAIN - we see "character" playing out in the political race for the White House.

Isn't it ironic the REAL person of "change" turns out to be McCain. Obama thought it too "risky" to nominate a well-qualified female to be his VP.

Obama TALKS about "change".
McCain MAKES it happen.

Concerned conservative
I know everyone is euphoric...which is why I am concerned. I think Palin is great...but do we really KNOW she's ready to go on Meet the Press, to be in the debates, to deal with hecklers on the stump etc? Or do we just hope she is ready, because we like her so darn much?

Palin Praise for Obama
“I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska’s natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs,”

Governor Palin also acknowledged the Senator’s proposal to offer $1,000 rebates to those struggling with the high cost of energy.

“We in Alaska feel that crunch and are taking steps to address it right here at home,” Governor Palin said. “This is a tool that must be on the table to buy us time until our long-term energy plans can be put into place. We have already enjoyed the support of Alaska Senator Ted Stevens, and it is gratifying to see Senator Obama get on board.”

Now This is Change!
This must be that Hussian wnet when he saide we need a change! Too bad for him isn't! This was not what he thought it would be! Although, it would have been cool to see Hillary and Palin go at it in a debate!

Did someone tap Obama on the shoulder?
...and mention to him that you have to DRILL to get Natural gas? It's in the same place as OIL!

Go McCain/Palin and God Bless America!!!

Someone help me with this
First off, I'm a serious kind of person, one who appreciates the complexity of geopolitical tensions and strategy. While I may not like Cheney on all levels, the man at least has huge geopolitical awareness. As a conservative, I like that. Now, here's my problem: If McCain were to die while in office, why should I think we'll be better off with this girl Palin? It's an embarrassment. What the hell was McCain thinking???!!!!

GTJOHNS - looking forward to his vote...

Thanks for reminding us Obama supports drilling for natural gas in Alaska.

I certainly HOPE he actually shows up in the Senate to cast his vote supporting this bill next year so President McCain can sign it into law.

I know Sarah Palin
She's the governor of my state; I've met her. This woman stared down the oil company execs. After Gov. Murkowski lost the election for offering to give away our natural resources, Sarah refused to roll over and let them scratch her belly. She ended up forcing them to the negotiating table and instituting a fair tax policy that ALaskans can live with. Can she go on Meet the Press? Oh, yeah! Can she wipe the floor with Joe Biden? The difference between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin is that Biden believes he's the smartest person in teh room; Sarah may very well be the smartest person in the room. I wouldn't worry about her at all. She knows how to play political chicken.

Crowhaul

The Presidency is part of the EXECUTIVE branch - not the legislative branch.

When it comes to EXECUTIVE experience, Palin has more than Obama (who has ALWAYS been a legislator).

Your FIRST mistake is assuming Obama would be a better executive - just because he reads a teleprompter well.

In case you didn't know this - Alaska borders Russia and Canada. Palin has more interaction with foreign nations than Obambi.

Crowhaul, do you have a death wish?
Most voters do not. And if McCain were to die, Sarah's executive experience would be twice that of Obama-Biden. She has DONE what they WISH and HOPE to do. Her list of accomplishments are only second to McCain.....the ticket is a winning ticket. Get ready to say Madame Vice President Palin. This is a woman who had done it all and done it well. And she wears a skirt suit with a lapelle pin on it, not a pant suit and pearls!

Palin - "Paul is cool" Super Tues quote
Well she has one thing going for her - she likes Ron Paul. But that will probably change now that she's VP on McCain's ticket. Still there's a chance she could bring me back as a voter - I'll decide next week up in Minneapolis.

Pelosi 2 heartbeats away
Crowhaul, while you are feeling uneasy about Palin's presence a heartbeat away from the Presidency, has it escaped your notice that for some time now Pelosi has been 2 heartbeats away?

I pray everyday for Cheney's good health.

Palin palatable
Although I abhor many of McCain's positions and intended to vote 3rd party this November, Governor Palin at least gives me cause to reconsider. I'd really be more content with her at the head of the slate, though.

I still gag at the thought of voting for McCain, but I positively retch at the notion of Obama in the White House.

As for my Bible-quoting, gun-totin', pro-life wife, she immediately jumped ship to the McCain-Palin ticket.

(PS. For fans of the movie rendition of Stephen King's "The Stand", didn't the Obama gala last night visually resemble Randall Flagg's fanfare in Las Vegas?)

what i like about her
she is NOT a lawyer for as much as I know.

no that is change for the good.

Good catch....
Snafu...you're right...too bad the ending wasn't the same, except for the good citizens of Denver.

So, the word is spreading from a blogger from Hotair....

Sarah'cuda.

SNAFU - GA

I too had a weird feeling - watching the Obama fanfare after his speech.

I thought, however, it more resembled the China-sponsored Olympics' Birdsnest. With Obama praising "the worker" and essentially attacking capitalism (confiscate oil company revenues) - the only thing separating last night's gala from a Chairman Mao Celebration was 2000 chinese drummers.

It really was over-the-top.

What's not to love about Sarah?
I have been "vetting" Governor Palin for the last 3 or 4 months - ever since her name came up on the "long" list. I can tell you that from what I have learned she is the real conservative deal and because she's on the ticket I will change my vote from a write in vote of Duncan Hunter Sr. to John McCain.

Sarah Palin is someone that every Conservative should fall in love with. I don't care if she's unknown. She stands for everything I believe in. With her as VP and a number of new, young and energetic Republicans running out there this is a chance for a revitalization of the Republican party. I've already sent McCain my 25 bucks this morning - something I didn't expect to do.

Now if McCain would cut Juan Hernandez loose I'd be a very happy camper.

What's not to love in Sarah Palin? Only the brain dead looney left would turn this wonderful candidate into a target. Pathetic!

And what I love best about her is that she's anti-babykiller !

VIP VP
McCain's surprising pick of Sarah Palin says that WE, the Republicans, are not going to make this election about experience, (HRC was the one with the 3 AM phone call ad), but about ideas, issues and solutions. I think the Republicans are well positioned to counter the Democrats need to preach unity with their own opportunity to preach solutions. The DNC spent the week saying "yeah us!", while the RNC can spend the week saying "yeah U.S.!".

change
Let me see if I understand. A Chicago politician selects a Washington insider and talks about change. A Republican maverick, who even worked with Kennedy on legislation, picks a woman who is a member of the NRA, has actual executive experience, has a husband that is a union member, has experienced real life, values 'even the least of these'--that is change.

HUGH - Thanks for the Detour
We almost didn't make this one! There's some pent up frustration about that... but, now we can roll up our sleeves and work together. Let's not forget that Reagan's selection of Bush provided us with 20 years of impact. McCain's nomination today could have a similar longstanding effect(?).

I would still like an autographed copy of one of the old books.

Kudos
I didn't think I'd ever give them to McCain and I certainly never thought I'd be sending him money, but now I very well may.

The Experience Angle
John McCain is not running on Sarah Palin's experience, he his running on his own. It seems more than precarious for the Obama camp to suddenly make experience a big issue. In a page for page match up, Sarah Palin's resume stands demonstrably greater than that of Barack Obama.

Does Barack Obama really want to make the contrast that he has no real legislative accomplishments, no executive experience and less leadership credentials than his opponents running mate? That would not just be a backfire, it would be a resounding explosion of political ignorance.

Democrats
McCain and Palin will become a juggernaut. How will the Democrats stop it? They can't do it with an empty suit commie and a self proclaimed super genius. I guess they could find a couple of Americans somewhere once they bump off the other two. Barack and Joe better start looking under their car in the morning.

I love Sarah Palin already
I was already greatly supporting John McCain -now my support for the McCain - Palin ticket couldn't possibly be more energized and excited!

Whoa, this is God's gift to Repulicans. What a wonderful surprise!

Money to McCain
I wasn't even going to vote for McCain. But today I sent 25 bucks to his campaign as a way of expressing my approval of Sarah Palin. If he gets a big boost today in funds it'll tell the country that we all approve!

Kudos to McCain
For Nick in TX, I already sent McCain (scratch that). I already sent Palin and McCain a donation.

If you are worried about her on the national stage, don't. Obama has been on the national stage and look at him dissemble, because he doesn't want people to know how liberal (probably socialist) that he is.

Palin, on the other hand, knows what she is about and can answer from core principles.

Also, no person on earth can master all the complexity of the government. They must learn to listen to experts and follow their core to the answer. I'm confident Sarah Palin will do that.

Happy Days.

EscondidoGuy -- Right On
and that's why I threw some money at McCain, also. It also informs him that the more of a role he gives her the better we are going to like it.

Donated

I sent $50 to McCain/Palin. The only have until the end of the Month (Sunday) to accept public donations to their campaign directly.

McCain's Age

Seriously folks - have you seen John McCain's mother? I think SHE could take Obama!

Not worried about his age. I AM worried how young Obama is!

Gov. Palin's exhibited great competence
I'm CONFIDENT that the more American voters get to know Gov. Palin - the more we'll trust in her! She's going upward and onward.

She's already cleaned up Alaska's government and set Alaska on a reformed and more properous path. Right on, Sarah.

The Audacity of Experience
John McCain has got his base reelin'! She is wonderful. Well done, sir.

I still can't hear his contributions ringing loud enough! Let's roll.

The wooden stake
Naming Sarah Palin as the VP candidate could well be a (welcome) wooden stake through the cold, black heart of the Gruesome Twosome campaign.

An open letter to Hewie Hewitt and the
Old News McHos. The short version Hewey, is "no sale".
Cut right to the chase. Hewie is selling Mac the Knife on the "wait till next time, then we'll get em" principle. "The FUTURE of the party is ours!"

Since a vote for Mac the Knife is a vote to DESTROY Reaganism in the GOP, there WILL BE no "future" for Conservatives. I direct you to The Big Mick blog, and my comments on the Bowyer, Hershensohn, Agness, and eventually Prager threads, for the large number of Cogent Reasons why Real Reagan Conservatives should NOT cooperate with the Rape-Suicide Scripted for them by the McHos.

Case in point from Hewie's own mouth, paragraph 9 his 5th reason.
Hewey ADMITTS the McChurian Candidate is NOT a Conservative, and a compromising inside the beltway elitist sombeech! Of COURSE McShamnesty, Mr. Gang 14, McFeingeld, No Tax Cuts, no drilling in Anwr, Cap and Trade IS!
POint IS Hewey you AIN'T going to GET anything DIFFERENT with a member of the Worst Congress in HISTORY promoted to PREZ!! As I point out elsewhere he is not ONLY as BAD as, he is WORSE than OBiJuan Kenyabe!

Note Hewey's two reasons for McRumpingup!
"Winning the war remains the first priority, and Supreme Court justices after that."
What is gained by winning on the Eastern Front while surrending the Southern and Home Fronts?
Mr. Gang 14 will give you Sueters and OConners, as bad as Ginsbergs, not Alitos, NOT even Robertses, far less Scalias and Thomases. He HAD that chance and opted for Surrender. McShamnesty is a sham on SCOTUS was well as the Reconquista. He WILL, as he has DONE, cut your throat.

See the Agness thread for why, as much as I love the Palin pick and consider it brilliant, I am still voting "none of the above."

The big mick

The Magnificent Choice
What a magnificent choice Sarah Palin is!!
Experience? She's got more than Obama and Biden put together--for she has actually run things (for the libs, that's what "executive" means), cut wasteful spending, and brought real change, not just talked about it in vague platitudes.
A governor of any State has a tougher job than any US Senator, especially mid-size and small ones such as Illinois and Delaware.
McCain hit it out of the park today...she is a winner!!
Meanwhile,in a back-stage dressing room somewhere, the "Fat Lady of the Opera" is picking out her outfit for the big finale...soon she will start warming up her voice...and when she starts to sing, you can anoint the "Chosen One" with jelly...he's TOAST!!

The wooden stake
Naming Sarah Palin as the VP candidate could well be a (welcome) wooden stake through the cold, black heart of the Gruesome Twosome campaign.

Not a chance!
SHE DOESN:T HAVE ANY TRUST, TD! She hates the war, and she has said it aND WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO just trust McCain hwho has betrayed our conservative principles in the past? Yeah he's tried to come around, but can you really beleive that he is committed? He's too unpredictable, and I have no idea who this woman is. If you want to believe in her you will, but that doesnt mean we should trust the future of conservatism to her. She is the future to...and who is she? She becomes the head of the party if the ticket gets elected! THat's too much for someone untried. This is too important to trust McCain on. I'm sorry, I'm a Kit Bond Republican, and I just cant find it to trust that McCain to stick to his guns. Or let me stick to mine! He has said so many things that are not complimentary to the family voters, that they were sources of divisiveness or something (agents of alienation or something). NO! This is not the time for such a radical If the party is going to hold hte gains its made over the last several decades, we need another choice! I mean, who is she? Its so depressing I dont even think I can vote.

ST

Blue skies, do I see..mmm hm hm mm mm...
And what will the dems expect for her next move, the Dog Catcher? Do they see a problem with her going from the PTA, to mayor, to governor, to VP? Heh, heh. Could be a good meltdown for them.

Just call me "hot to vote in Washington."

great pick
great pick McCain...I was shocked...pleasantly shocked...there is new life in the RNC.

you are right on this one Hugh.

Really? This changes nothing
CONSERVATIVES understand that as VP, Palin, makes no decisions on policy like ... oh ... amnesty for criminal illegal aliens. While I'm completely enamored of her after what? 10 hours? this is just another self-serving decison by McCain. A brilliant one? Yes ... considering all the slobbering by so-called conservatives on this very site

Palin
It goes to show the greatest change will happen when you stop believing that you need to change.

PS
So how do I look in an "updo" and glasses? *8)

I LOVE PALIN
Anyone see Paul "the forehead" Begala on CNN talking about McCain and his near death experiences, age 72, cancer 4 time, he's going to pray for McCain's health and send him vitamins, blah, blah, blah. That guy should be flushed. I can't wait for the VP debates and the to nation get a better understanding about Palin's back-to-basic conservatism. Biden won't be able to help himself and become the true narcissistic jerk he truly is and then he and Obama America (recent infamous Biden gaffe) can disappear in Nov.

I actually wrote in favor of Palin here
last week, and I am lousy at making predictions.

Not only has she exec. experience and is a corruption fighter, she is pro-drilling, pro-drilling in ANWAR, and a good candidate for those 23% of Hillary voters who don't want the Great O.

Let the games begin.

incredulous
wrong...for millions of Republican voters who have been disinterested in the election (except to occassionly wonder why Dems are slobbering over Obama) thus far, this changes everything.

Let us admire her for a short while...we promise not to fall down, faint, scream, or veil our worship in any other way for a candidate who is completely unworthy of the hype (that is BHO if you've been brainwashed as well by the media spin for him).

She is a worthy candidate...and a true Christian...in word and in deed. We don't have to worry with her whether she means what she says or will do what her values say she will do. We know it! And that does change everything!

Peace

Obama surrogates beware
Paul Begala on CNN with Campbell Brown just said that he thought Sarah Palin was very poised today - "It is obvious her beauty contest training is showing." They don't get it!

Aspiration
Hugh
In addition to her credentials, she sounded real eloquent and smart. Seems like she can do well in the debates and will make for a great campagner.
Could you address this concern?
Does she have the aspiration or drive and ability to take on the number 1 slot if needed, or the ambition to go for the second term.
If she does not, and if someone else has the ambition and ability to run in 2012, then why not pick that one as VP now?
And if she is up for the 2012 run, her opponent will surely be Hilary Clinton.
Hilary's chance will be real high unless all the pro-life people come out to vote.
Just looking a little longer.

The Maverick Asserts Himself
McCain's age and the physical toll the presidency takes upon a person is definitely an issue in this election. Sarah Palin is a fantastic choice because of her integrity and conservative political philosphy. One cannot help but admire her regardless of their political affiliation. I just hope she can stay that way one she is in office. Chances are, she'll become a major Republican player in the future.

p.r. Point Taken
... respectfully. I think you may have misunderstood mine however. I wouldn't vote for Obama to save my life. Once a Republican, the party changed so I've left them behind. I rather prefer to cast my vote on principle not party. I sincerely hope you enjoy your moment and wish you well in the general election. My vote this election would only go to a Palin/McCain ticket not vice versa

incredulous
I agree here...i'd prefer a Palin/McCain ticket too.

But her addition gives hope to true conservative Christians in the future...this will elevate her to leadership in the RNC...especially if they win...she'll get credit for putting McCain over the top.

I'm not a big Mac fan (except at McDonalds), but i like his choice enough to put a sign in my yard and a sticker on my car...if not for 08, for the hope of better things a decade from now!

peace

SHE MIGHT BE A GREAT BUFFER
If McCain believes Palin will be a lock-step McCain foot soldier, he might be in for a surprise. She will call a spade a spade and I'm sure will express her conservatism as part of a McCain WH. Who knows, she might be able to remind McCain of the conservative principles he must've forgotten about.

Bad choice
I have watched and listene all day with an open mind. She is on the right side and pro-life. Great, congrats.

I don't get why not Huckabee? Much more credible, has an organization and an appeal. I find Palin's resume embarassing on a national ticket. There are mayor's in this country that have more people than the entire state of Alaska. And reforming Alaska, is much different than being the leader of the free world.

Credibility test. No way does she meet the test.

If she wasn't a women, she wouldn't be anywhere near in consideration.

I don't know what to say, I have spent 8 hours trying to have an open mind, and I find her woefully inadequate. I think Mitt Romney should try and wrestle the nomination on the floor next week for the vice-presidency.

Brilliant
Now this is the kind of woman America is looking for to be in the White House. As VP or you know what...Prez.

Nope Not Hillary, Sarah Palin. Someone who can grasp and lives by real American values, not the made up fantasies of a country with no identity like Barack Obama's "west". The global sinkhole.

John
Romney was my pick from the start, but find out about Palin before writing her off. Also, don't marginalize Alaska, it is one of the 50 states in our union and just as important as any other state.

I love it when
liberal knuckle-draggers like Paul Begala tell me why Palin is DOA. I'll say it again, McCain in a romp...at least 5 million votes.

p.r. pragmatic, but ...
how much future do we have? The time is now. McCain is the immediate future if he wins and it doesn't look good considering the RNC may (will) take our votes for McCain as acceptance of selling us out during the Bush administration on policies like illegal immigration. She may well get credit, but she's not the future necessarily ... think Jindal. I'm tired of being hoodwinked and taken for granted. Isn't it time for a stand on principle?

She has plenty of credentials and time
Huge difference she is not a wet behind the ears activist from chicago running for the Presidency. She is the govenor of the State of Alaska and has been chosen for the Vice Presidents office. She has plenty of experience that counts. And she has eight years to gain more. A mother of five diplomat. A reagan conservative. Couldn't get much better here.

The choice of Palin was a masterstroke.

Game, set and match.

Brings energy policy front and center.
That's a losing issue for the Democrats.

She has a record of fighting corruption within her own party (aside: so does Bob Barr- he took down a dirtbag Republican congressman named Fletcher Thompson when he was a U.S. Attorney)

She'll wipe the floor with Biden.

She represents real, as opposed to rhetorical, lip-service change.

She's intelligent, principled, tough as nails, and a hottie.

And she is a gunowner.

That's a royal flush in my book.

Did'nt think McCain
had any more aces up the sleeve other than the same beltway, blah-blah politics. Much to my surprise, his choice of Gov. Palin was a grand slam of a home run. I'm just amazed at the risk McCain took, and it will absolutely pay off at the polls. This choice has put NEW life back into a party that was ready to splinter at any time. She (Palin) is practically the complete opposite of Obama/Biden in terms of policy and core values.

I did not think it was possible to slow down Obama's momentum, but I sense that this VP selection has completely derailed Obama and his entire campaign now. The DemoRats just don't know it yet!

Oh yes, to the author of the article, to name her VP in a critical state such as Ohio, on McCain's birthday, and Ms. Palin's anniversary, DURING the 88th anniversary of women's sufferage, was an absolute brilliant political move by McCain. I am an avid chess player....so to the DemoRats...I say..... you've been CHECKMATED! (by the selection of a woman).....hahhahahhahhahhaha...and...YOU (DemoRats) REFUSED to put a woman on YOUR ticket....salt in the wound?......lol...... Kudos McCain...When Johnny comes marching home again hurrah hurrah.....woohooooooooooooo

NE Conservative
SHE's not running for president. Take a breath. If she has 8 more great, but you don't where the country will be in 8 years from now starting in January. You know you'll get socialism with Obama and you'll get semi-socialism with McCain. Do we have time to wait for a Palin or Jindal to take the reigns and reverse the mistakes that'll be made?

Way to be, GOP!
Sarah Palin will not let this go to her head. She will be campaigning for McCain and his platform, with style.

The crazy thing is...
...that Palin has more executive experience than BOTH McCain and Obama. Neither one of them has any executive level experience, while Palin has at least 18 months. But seriously: what the hell was McCain thinking??? I'm freaking out over this choice. :(

Talk about Momentum
McCain's Grand Slam...What can you say? The Dems are toast already.

What an awesome pick!

She is the natural from the Natural State!

It was her disgust with Bill Clinton that largely motivated to run for office!

Parents everywhere: We have a real role model!
And Lord is she pretty!

In Sarah we have Mitt's family values; Rudy's toughness fighting the mob; Duncan Hunter's love of the Army; Huckabee's love of LIFE; America's love of its own!

Palin's Appeals
Palin was not put on the ticket to attract Clinton women: they are bitter, frustrated, and unhappy and will gravitate to the patron saint of pomposity, the Chicago Shyster.

Putting Palin on the ticket was designed to appeal to the Republican wing of the Republican party. Palin has an eclectic background outside of the "important business of government," which appeals to those who loathe voting for lawyers (no Republican lawyer Presidents since Ford).

Obama's Illinois Problems
I might add that there are a few interesting events leading up to 4 November:

- Rezko's sentencing in late October
- State Senate President Emil Jones will retire after a long and corrupt career. In true Chicago fashion, he will install his son (with barely a HS education) as his heir apparent. That's right, Emil Jones Jr. will become Senator, then State Senate President. Our man Obama should be quite proud of having served in the august institution.

...and the Cubs/Sox will probably flop in October.

Excellent choice!!
I was absolutely THRILLED when I heard that McCain chose Palin for VP. Brilliant move for many reasons, most of which have been discussed in this column.

Palin is the "real McCoy". I've been saying it for months: this country DESPERATELY needs a conservative, courageous leader and we have exactly that with Gov. Palin.

Tally ho!

Most Excellent Choice
I hope this translates into congressional seats, as well as 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Taxes won't stay low, unless congress votes for it.

Expanded drilling won't happen unless congress votes for it.

Nominated Judges won't make it to the bench unless the senate votes for them to.

Relief...
I can actually pay attention to the election now. I'm glad that so many are seeing the light. When I heard about the rumors of Palin being selected, I didnt know who she was, so I watched the Glenn Beck interview with her. She was brilliant and I didnt need to hear her for more than about 30 seconds before I knew she would be great. Just look at how hard the dems are crying foul! - They arent being very careful about what they are saying, "She's not qualified..." Do the REALLY want to go down that path? A resume contest is a death wish. THat tells me they are panicked! Me thinks the dems doth protest too much!

She's smart, and guided by principles. She is fearless as well, Her most convincing statement for me was: "I did not get into politics to be popular - but to do what is right for the country" (something like that)

I was stunned to see the words on the podium during the announcement: "COUNTRY FIRST" - I know this is politics, but I have the distinct impression that this lady gets it. That staredown of the corrupt republicans was no fluke.

I just wonder what Politics will do to an honest person. I think she will find many enemies on both sides of the isle. But as a Governor, she probably already knows that. Being a Governor is much, much more significant than being a non-voting senator.

No kidding Sherlock- incredulus
I didn't say she was running for President. I said she was the KIND of woman we want in the White House as VP or President. As in caliber. She would obviously run, as veeps usually do when it's their turn. She, as opposed to say a Hillary/ Pelosi nightmare. As long as NObama is out, we are safe.

mr obvious
amen...let's hope the base rallies around the little guys too

NE Conservative
... good enough recovery, I suppose ... assuming your supposition that she'd run. Just don't negate the likes of Jindal, Romney, Gingrich, et al. Take a breath

Experience
It will be truly entertaining as we watch the Dems attempt to paint Pallin as inexperienced at the same time they try to convince us that BO has what it takes to be President.

She has more time in the executive seat than McCain, Binden and BO combined :-)

I wonder if Olberman has had that meltdown yet.

Social Cons
This one is going to come back to bite you guys in the as$ big-time. An inexperinced woman who is 1) pro-life and 2) a "Creationist" - is not about win over the moderates or any ex-Hillary voters.

Harriet Meyers all over again. AND YOU GUYS ALL PUCKER UP FOR HER BECAUSE SHE'S PRO-LIFE. And you all were ready to mutiny because Tom Ridge or Joe Lieberman might have been picked... both EMINENTLY more qualified than the hockey mom, but they are pro-choice, and, therefore, unacceptable.

Evangelicals are the ultimate in identity politics. More so than blacks, gays or pro-choice women.

will
shut up and go back to your cave. don't respond because you'll get no response from me you neanderthal

Will and pucker
Will, you using the words "pucker up" conjure up some really graphic images, most of them funny but none of them pleasant...

McCain blew it
This pick was purely political and totally desperate. He thinks it will get him the Hillary voters, enough to turn the election.

As time goes by, and we learn more about how little Sarah Palin knows about foreign policy, history, and the military, it will become clear that McCain was not thinking about the security of the country when he made this pick. He was thinking about winning an election.

He's 72, and he's had bouts with cancer. He needed to pick a person of substance, ready to lead the world's most powerful nation in a time of war, on day one. He chose wrong. He chose his ambition to be president over the security of his country. McCain absolutely blew it. He has revealed his true self: What we used to think was "staright talk", is revealed to be nothing more than childish impetuousness.

He had only met her six months ago, and has only spoken to her once on the phone.

It was John McSame's Harriet Myers moment. But the right wing spin monkeys have to go with it. They have no choice. If they don;t win, all of the lies win unravel. They have to make it seem like a stroke of genius. Fortunately, if this gamble falls short, as I think it will, the right wing spin monkeys will have a lot of egg on their faces. Most of all, Dennis Prager, who today said that Sarah Palin is the Margerat Thatcher of the United States.

We're now officially entering the hysterical zone of partisanship.

Phylo out.

Even the Maverick finally gets it.
The other day, Rush cited an annual poll with exactly the same questions from year to year, so there is stability to the results. 60% of the country classifies itself as staunchly conservative or somewhat conservative from year to year. 3% of the country considers itself independent. Victory is dependent on the appeal to the conservatives; not the independents. McCain just lit a fire under the base I did not think was possible. As the saying goes 'Only Nixon could go to China" Well, it looks like Mc Cain, the maverick has gone to the base.

will
who hurt your feelings?

I don't know why conservative Christians scare you so much...

and just a friendly reminder...call your mom tomorrow and thank her for not being a pro-choice woman who aborted you like the other 45 million unlucky souls since 1973.

So what is your big issue? if it's not human life (as you criticize conservatives for), what is it? money (economy)? climate (for the loons)? save the baby polar bears (again, loons)? Oh I know, you are an intellectual with a plethera of issues important to you...make sure you don't step on the children while stepping over them ok...thanks for your input...and peace

If you still have any sense, vote for an ex-Marine, ex-GOP, Conservative preacher, Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party in 2008. Carrying on the Iraq War incessantly is un-CONSTITUTIONAL, butthat is exactly what the GOP intends to do. It's long past time to hand over the operation to the Iraqis. Our boys have not fought in vain if we have become so obsessed with victory that we abandon our Constitution and common sense. Nowhere in the Constitution does it implore us to engage in foreign alliances and entanglements and nation-building. We are however to defend ourselves, but what have the GOP and the DEMS done? They have left the border wide open and the enemy is among us with suitcase nukes waiting to blow millions of us to Kingdom Come. The GOP has also transferred so much of our debt to the AMerican People that we may never be able to defend ourselves in the future when oureconomy inevitably collapses just as the Soviet Union collapsed from economic ruin.

Jim, glad to go down experience path
Palin's experience as mayor of a town of 6,500 and govenor for 1 1/2 years of one our smallest states is much more meager than that of Obama sitting on the Foriegn Relations Committee.

I will remind you that the drumbeat from the right has been that Obama is too inexperienced to be Prez, and yet, the GOP is now arguing that someone with much less experience than Obama should be second in line for the presidency. And this with a ticket leader who is 72 years with a history of major health problems.

The logic here please?

More experience
Sarah Palin has more executive experience than Obama or Biden; more military experience than either (she is command-in-chief of the Alaska National Guard); and easily more foreign policy experience than Obama, dealing with the cantankerous canadians almost daily.

As much as I loathe many of McCain's positions, I may have to vote for him--or, more accurately, Sarah Palin--after all.

Most of you are living in a fairytale that has unfortunately a nasty ending for America: The Big Bad Wolf does Blow the House Down. You will never save America by voting for the same ol' two parties that have bankrupted US. The apostate government in DC cannot be healed with the same medicine that hasn't worked in a long time. It's time for new medicine!

Laying the Judgment Issue to Rest
A 72-year-old man with a history of cancer picks a running mate manifestly unqualified to succeed him. That certainly puts the “judgment” issue to rest.

It also makes a mockery of previous claims by the McCain camp that a U.S. Senator who formerly served as a legislator in a major state and a faculty member in a prestigious university is too inexperienced to be president.

Furthermore, if McCain is so concerned about national security, how could he pick a potential successor without a clue about military or foreign affairs?

But apparently none of that matters to people like Hewitt. She’s “right” on all the issues dear to knuckle draggers.

Take Back The G

Sounds like a serious case of the Sour Grapes to me.

Why don't you go use your time better by looking for your "G" Spot?

Now that's funny.

You are going to compare Pallin to BO, the man whose foreign policy experience consists of making a speech in Berlin during the break between 2 popular rock bands?

To BO, the man whose entire view of US history revolves around the plight of the oppressed black man? (If you don't beleive that you obviously have NOT read his autobiography)

To BO, the man who will gut our military capabilities even worse than Slick Willy did?

I have to wonder what kind of bubble you live in to have not noticed to total lack of substance in your candidate.

She is a lifelong member of the IRA. She knows more about defense than all of you Leftie Losers put together.

Still doubt? Why don't you go assault her in the woods and see what happens?

You have it reversed. The Dems have been arguing that BO, the man who has spent most of his professional career campaigning for jobs in which he then votes "Present" has the experience to be President (as opposed to 2nd in line).

Given that you folks think BO is qualified, you logically MUST accept that Pallin has the chops to lead as well.

The Ides of November
Now give Congress something to worry about!

Yttrium

Darn it all !!

4 more years without legal marijuana, cocaine, and prostitution... revolving jail doors, and lifetime welfare checks...

Then again, I do live in Detroit :)

Well then...
Democrat reaction to Gov. Palin ...
Well, there goes Alaska ...
And all 3 of it's Electoral College votes ...

Happy Birthday Sen. McCain
sorry for the pain
that you had to endure
to keep South Viet Nam secure

(till 1975, at least)

Palin is head of the Alaska National Guard. That gives her more military experience than Obama and Biden COMBINED. She also has more executive experience than Obama (none) and Biden (none). Voters tend to prefer candidates with ANY executive experience over candidates with even decades of legislative experience in Washington, DC. Sorry, but this is one line of argument Obama should not dare to touch. He will come out the loser every time.

I'm no supporter of McCain, but I'm quickly becoming a fan of Gov. Palin. I just wish she had declined McCain's offer and kept herself clean for 2012 (Palin/Jindal or Jindal/Palin would have been unbeatable). Now she will have to cheerfully advocate McCain's policies that are more often liberal than conservative.

Carlos In Detroit
I feel your pain.

But, look on the bright side. All you have to do is hit the Ambassador Bridge and get what you need in the Great White North :-)

Whoops...
There goes the Polar Bear huggers vote...
Good riddance says the Grand Old Party !!!

A nice change
Frankly, I'm about sick of professional politicians, those who for decades lie, cheat, steal, swindle, bend, fold, spindle and manipulate, all in an unending quest to climb to the top of the heap. Ambition and initiative are admirable qualities if held in honest check.

It's been professional politicians who've been so hellbent on destroying our country, dragging it into marxism/socialism.

It's refreshing to see someone such as Sarah Palin who has NOT prostituted herself in such a fashion. Though it will make me gag to cast a vote for a RINO like McCain, Governor Palin makes the choice more palatable.

Polar Bears
Gosh, the last I heard the ice cap was supposed to have completely melted this year.

I wonder what went wrong. Perhaps Al Gore was lecturing less. That would account for the reduction in hot air this summer.

Pallin Actually Unimportant
And so is Biden.

The bottom line is very simple, for both sides of the argument.

The tree huggers and Socialists have no choice. They MUST vote for BO, regardless of how pathetic he is.

And the ultra conservatives, the evangelicals and all the rest MUST vote for McCain, no matter how far he is from their positions.

It all boils down to the SCOTUS. The next POTUS will choose at least 1 Justice, and possibly as many as 3 in the next term.

Wake Me Up
when the beauty pageant is over, please. As Michael Savage said on air tonight, the GOP convention is going to be even more worse than the Democratic hippie lovefest. The GOP convention will have the Brady Bunch with the new Miss America & family, and Grandpa McShamnesty with "pantsuit" Barbie Doll, My Three Sons & Romney, the Huckster, everybody's favorite man of God who forsook his calling from the Lord for Mammon, and the Governator who is breaking more backs with his exorbitant taxation in Taxifornia than he ever broke in the movies. Why should we be surprised? After all, Caesar gave the Romans bread and The Coliseum while Rome went bankrupt. The GOP will play up the jingoism and the patriotism and the militarism, but it's all a clever game to get you to take your eyes off of what they are doing behind the scenes in DC. They are counting on your ignorance and fears to pull them through again, so they can get back to the business of Illegal Immigration, NAFTA, the Corporate Welfare State, National Healthcare, the SPP, the North American Union, and the transcontinental superhighway to please their globalist masters in the CFR. The DEMS are doing the same thing, but using different selling schemes like the race card, victimhood, envy, class warfare, and entitlement, but their endgame is just the same: transfer of your wealth and national sovereignty. None of these parties care for your security - for your very survival as a nation. In that sense, they are no different than the Islamic terrorists we are fighting because they ahve been aiding and abetting our enemies in our own destruction by refusing to address our national security. Voting for wither party is voting for national suicide.

Longevity
If you're a left thinking person you tend to think more temporal, but if you're a conservative you plan deep into the future. McCain picking Palin will definintely help him with this election, but the Palin pick will bring a new positive era to America and that includes everything, even government. Even if the McCain/Palin ticket loses, we will have her and many others who will step forward in the future with a strong convicting message of real hope for the American people!

The Esteemed Dr. Savage
Dr. Savage's grasp on history and reality are tenuous at best.

His understanding of our Constitution and legal rights is virtually non-existent.

If he is you primary source of support and info for your political opinion, you should probably stay out of the voting booth.

Savage is the one "conservative" radio host that I turn the channel away from nearly every time he comes on. The man is a fruit loop.

Palin is NO Conservative
because a true Conservative would never sellout to McShamnesty in the first place. True Conservatism NEVER compromises on principles of NATIONAL SECURITY.

Judgement issue
The real issue of judgement is with the democrat voter. Does anyone really think that Joe Biden will make any foriegn policy decisions or be there to hold Obama's hand when he is talking peace with the leadership of Hamas?

Is Joe Biden working out an exit strategy for the invasion of Pakistan?

What do democrats think of Joe Biden's vote against Reagan's Star Wars initiative now that we have a flying laser and a missile that will hit a missile?

Dumb opening speech
What kind of an idiot, in her very first speech, brings up an ear mark issue that she blatantly flip-flopped on?

She says in today’s speech how she stepped forward to cancel an earmark known as the Gravina Island Bridge.

Everybody knows, and the record is quite clear, that Palin supported the Gravina Island Bridge project, commonly known outside the state as the "Bridge to Nowhere."

However, once it had become a nationwide symbol of wasteful earmark spending and some federal funding was lost, Palin canceled the bridge, and only did so because Alaska's congressional delegation was unable to prevent the state of Alaska from having to pay for part of the bridge's construction.

Why bring up a matter in which you showed no leadership.

Who Will Conservatives Vote For, And Why
All "True Conservatives" in this nation will vote for McCain.

The alternative to McCain is 4-8 years of BO in the White House, both houses of Congress controlled by the Dems, and POTUS stacked with liberals.

A "True Conservative" will walk into the booth, pinch his nose shut and choose McCain, because the alternative is absolutely unthinkable.

Andylit
Can you address the issues and not Doctor Savage? That's what DEMS do; they attack the speaker but not the message. As for Dr. Savage, I lost a lot of respectfor him jsut as I have lost a lot of respect for Rush Bimbo, Sean Insanity, and even Laura Ingraham when they decided to abandon Conservative principles and become shameless shills and automaton robots for McShamnesty of ALL PEOPLE!!! If Talk Radio really was CONSERVATIVE, they would all have CHUCK BALDWIN, BOB BARR, TOM TANCREDO, and DUNCAN HUNTER on their shows constantly, but instead they bring on McShamnesty himself, Giuliani, Huckabee, President Jorge Bush and family, and ANYBODY ELSE BUT A CONSERVATIVE. Sean Insanity doesn't even realize that he has gotten drunk on the very "Kool-Aid" he accuses Liberals of drinking. This idiot is only Conservative socially - THAT'S IT!!! The only difference between him and Colmes is their stance on the war and their social views. To rail for Conservative values like a balanced budget, a free market, no corporate welfare, no illegal immigration, no North American Uunion, but then turn right around and support a candidate that supports all of those things makes you a HYPOCRITE and that's what he, Hewitt, Rush, and even Michael Savage and now Laura Ingraham and Ann Coulter have all become - HYPOCRITES!

Andylit
"All "True Conservatives" in this nation will vote for McCain."

Now that is hilarious. We would never have had a truly Conservative congressional takeover of Congress in 1994 if Bush had not lost in 1992. The true Conservatives in Congress were freed up from Bush idiocy.

If you have a person in the White House who is not Conservative or competent, but he has your parties label by his name, you are in an impossible position as a Member of Congress.

You have to carry the man’s water for him the whole 4 years. If you want to nominate Conservatives and put Conservatives into leadership positions in the Republican Party, you don’t pander to the party when it doesn’t get the job done.
