Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Editor's note: This article is from the December issue of Townhall Magazine. Click here to subscribe and receive a free copy of Reagan's Revolution: The Untold Story of the Campaign that Started It All by Craig Shirley.

I’m sure after this two-year campaign everyone would like to take a deep breath and put aside politics for a while. The holiday season approaches. It is time for all of us to give thanks for the many blessings we have been given.

But our gratitude for life and liberty should also serve as a reminder that what we were working so hard to achieve these past few years still very much hangs in the balance. And it is up to each of us to continue that fight. Our participation as citizens of the United States does not end once we’ve pulled the lever in the voting booth. That ballot is just the beginning.

We are now living in a nation controlled by a Democratic Party committed to cutting the budget for our national defense, raising taxes and nibbling around the edges of our personal freedoms in the hopes none of us notices. Democrats will do it through regulation in the executive branch, legislation in Congress and rulings from the judiciary.

This activity will be taking place during a time when we know that somewhere in the world our worst enemies either have, or are trying to get their hands on, the most dangerous weapons known to man. Small rogue nations are developing nuclear weapons to threaten us and our allies. Some large nations are engaged in massive military buildups, while others seek to take advantage of our weakened financial condition to wage a kind of economic warfare that is only now possible because of our global economy. And all the while the greatest economic threat of our lifetime and our children’s lifetime—the bankrupting of our entitlements systems—will be ignored.

It’s not a pretty picture, is it?

But if the time I spent traveling around America the past 18 months has given me anything, it is hope. And it if has confirmed anything for me, it is this: America remains the greatest country in the history of the world, and our citizens who care about our nation’s founding values—freedom, free markets, respect for life and the rule of law—will not stop defending these values as much as some of our fellow citizens and leaders might wish they would.

The Democrats and their P.R. machine known as the “mainstream media” liked to talk about 2008 as an election about “change.” Well, let me tell you, by their nature, every election is about “change.” In fact, responsible change is the essence of conservatism. We must change in order to preserve what is best about our country. We have always been able to accommodate constructive change without turning our back on our first principles.

But now, we should admit that we didn’t do a good enough job of holding our elected officials accountable over the past few years when spending got out of control, and we seemed to lose sight of the policies grounded in our first principles. It’s going to be a high price we pay, but we must not lose sight of what we must be doing now: fighting for conservative change we want today—and tomorrow.

We are going to have to use every tool we have—grassroots organizations, think tanks, magazines, talk radio, the Internet—while building new institutions to blunt the efforts of a left-wing establishment that appears willing to use uncertainty to impose an agenda that would never see the light of day in normal times.

The challenge will be to fight the Democratic instinct to let government meet every need and solve every problem and to divide our nation by class and race, while also laying the groundwork for the kind of historic mid-term election we achieved in 1994.

We gained those victories with a focus on innovative, free-market, pro-freedom, policy solutions to issues like welfare reform, promising to cut spending and balance the budget, and recruiting a host of talented, young (and perhaps not-so-young) men and women willing to step into the arena and run for office.

We have the formula—a conservative formula—that has worked before and will surely work again. It is grounded in our first principles. It’s time we moved past the recriminations and seven stages of grief. It’s time to look ahead, to stay united and to defend the values that we know must endure if our nation is to do the same.

Fred!
That is perhaps the most content-free article ever written. I don't know which of us dozed off first, me or Fred.

Please make another attempt
Senator Thompson, please make another run for the White House in 2012. I was in your corner the first go-round and we need a man llike you more than ever at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue!

CONSERVATIVE IS CHANGE FROM EXCESS
FRED IS RIGHT CHANGE FROM BIG GOVERNMENT AND THE OPEN WALLET OF WASHINGTON UNDER PELOSI, REED,AND BUSH. OBAMA RAN UNDER THE BANNER OF CHANGE AND NO TAX INCREASE FOR 95% OF THE COUNTRY. HOW HE IS GOING TO PULL THIS OFF, ONLY GOD KNOWS. FRED IS OBSERVING WHAT THE PEOPLE BELIEVED THEY VOTED FOR. OBAMA WOULD HAVE TO FIRST CHANGE HIS SPEND IT NOW APPROACH TO GAVERNMENT.

Mr Munck
Fred must have said something that resonated otherwise you wouldn't have crawled out from your liberal cave to debunk it. Fact that never changes, even when they win (by hook, crook or ACORN) liberals are NEVER happy.

I just read an article regarding the oath of office in which the swearer of the oath promises (in the BIBLE, which may not be important to the libs, but is to a lot of us
Bible believin', church goin', gun totin' bitter clingers) to preserve protect and defend the Constitution of the United States..that's
THE original Constitution not some "living rag"
some libcommie decided it is. So if a Demolibcommie swears the oath, and means the living as opposed to the REAL Constitution does that mean they perjured themselves? Does that mean any legislation they enact is invalid?
What if?

for Bob Munck
The Republicans, cocooned inside their own talk-radio media spin, are still living in denial about the significance of the election.

The GOP is not going to win back the trust of the American people until it does two things:

1. Acknowledges the disastrous foreign-policy mistakes made by the Bush Administration (most of which were INCONSISTENT with "traditional conservative principles"), and offers a new foreign policy that learns from those lessons.

2. Stops regurgitating the Reagan or Gingrich playbooks, admits how the country has changed demographically, and offers a new set of policies designed to reach the new, fast-growing voter groups: Single women and Hispanics particularly.

If these things are not done, the GOP will be consigned to being a regional party of Appalachia, the South, and parts of the West.

It's the educational system
Interesting article, conservatives who have been wanting to focus on academics, responsible behavior, respect for boundaries and achievements that are earned in school are already aware, for the rest of you...

U.S Teens Brimming With Self Esteem

http://www.medicinenet.com/script/main/art.asp?articlekey=9 4175

SteveL
So, your advice for the republican party is to follow the democrats. That seems to be a popular refrain.

1. A 'new' foreign policy. Can a policy learn? I assume this to mean a foreign policy that pretty much lets the rest of the world do whatever they want. Are you advocating absolute non intervention regardless of circumstances?

2. Ah,yes. We must reach women and Hispanics. Reach them with what? A government check? Are you suggesting the democratic play book whereby each market(voter) segment is identified with those policies and/or promises designed specifically for them? No more melting pot but, increased balkanization?

If these things are done, the party may benefit in the short run. If gaining power is the sole objective, then, yes, these things may help but, they doom the country. It is a kool aid every bit as dangerous as the stuff drunk by Jim Jones followers. The death will take much longer and be much more violent but, it will be death just the same. A bidding war for votes is not the answer. The original founding principles of this country are the only true answer but, if the majority votes to trash the constitution and build the world's largest ponzi scheme, then so be it.

SteveL GOP denial
Since 2000, the left wing of the Democratic Party has demonized and attempted to sabotage everything George Bush has attempted. They have finally convinced 52% of the electorate that our economy and foreign policy have never been in worse straits and that nothing positive has happened for the last 7 years. They have convinced an even higher percentage of minority voters that all Republican's are greedy racists and homophobes.

The Left Wing of the Democrat Party believes this caracature they have created so I can't fault their sincerity. They also believe in their vision so they are confident that any damage they might have done in their quest for power will now be easily undone.

I wonder if media spin will cover their failures and magnify their sucesses, as easily as it has obscured Republican success and magnified Republican failures.

Its the senate stupid
While it may be true that the democrats could take a hit in the congressional elections one need only look at the senate seats up for grabs in 2010 to see that a net increase in blue senators is not only likely but inevetable. The only senators up for re-election in conventionally red states are Byron Dorgan of North Dakota who won in 2004 with 72% of the vote, and former Indiana govoner Evan Byah. Vulnerable republicans include Alaska senator Lisa Murkowski who squeeked out a victory with 49%; Mel Martinez of Florida (49% again); David Vitter of Louisianna (sex scandal); Chuck Grassley of, the now very blue state, Iowa; Judd Greg of also blue now New Hampshire; George Voinovich of Ohio who has a 40% approval 46% dissaproval; Arlen Spectar who will likely be facing popular MSNBC host Chris Mathews; Tom Copburn who is notoriously less popular than GWB in his home state of Oklahoma; Richard Burr of North Carolina who is no doubt painfully aware of Ms Dole's loss; and John Thune of South Dakota who could be threatened by vote cyphoning should a decent libertarian obtain ballot acess. Add to that the likely retirement of John Mccain and youve got Arizona all but certainly going for its current democratic govoner Janet Napolitano. Sure they might be facing an uphill battle in the house, but when it comes to the senate its entirely plausable that the democrats could have over 70 seats come 2011. Remember that these senators were all elected in 2004 riding the coat-tails of GWB, a strategy that, to put it mildly, may not have the same effect this time around.

Give it up
Fred - please give it up - you're too old and regressive - let the new guys like Pawlenty and Jindal take the wheel. Really, your ideas are out of steam.

Bob Munck, Steve L, Mario, Dave, et al.
No.
We will never quit, so continue to beat your heads against the wall, we give your meager lives meaning, by giving you something to argue against.
You are for nothing, and Fred must scare the crap out of you.

Time to Look Ahead
Fred, You're OK on Law & Order, but to aspire further only illustrates the validity of the Peter Principle.

You say: "We are now living in a nation controlled by a Democratic Party committed to cutting the budget for our national defense, raising taxes and nibbling around the edges of our personal freedoms in the hopes none of us notices. Democrats will do it through regulation in the executive branch, legislation in Congress and rulings from the judiciary."

Just two comments:

From 2001 - 2008, my Federal taxes increased every year. Guess I should have worked harder or maybe robbed some banks to get into the Bush tax cut sweet spot, but I'm not that rich.

From 2001-2008, we've seen an unprecedented assault on the Constitution, the document that is the bedrock of our personal liberties. From arresting protesters exercising their legal rights at political conventions and speeches to warrantless wiretapping to signinig statements, the current Administration has made it clear that they embrace the belief that the Constitution is "just a goddamn piece of paper." I can hardly see how the Democrats can top this act.

Awesome mental gymnastics
"In fact, responsible change is the essence of conservatism. We must change in order to preserve what is best about our country."

No comment necessary, really. Just extraordinary hoops of logic there. To paraphrase, the philosophy of not-changing requires change in order to prevent change.

Mark-
if your federal taxes increased every year, so did your income; and protesters who behaved in a legal fashion were never arrested, and the term "warrentless wiretapping" is a misnomer.
GWB never listened to anyone calling their Mom, so it's a specious and empty complaint.
Show me a single case in court where someone had their civil right violated by the Patriot Act.
Just one.
( And NOT one you saw on Law and Order).

paranoidmystic,
you would find it hyperbolic logic, it's the way a lefty brain works.
When your ideological opponents tactics are varied and ever-changing, you grow to meet the challenge or get defeated.
We may be slower, but we do get there, even when it takes wading through the ever rising tide of crap being shoveled at us by the left.

Trevor
writes, "Tom Copburn who is notoriously less popular than GWB in his home state of Oklahoma; "

That is quite the wish list. Tom Coburn has about as much chance of losing his seat as Ted Kennedy or Barbara Boxer. Obama only got 1 of 3 votes in Oklahoma. Our only token democrat in Congress is the son of a very popular conservative former governor and senator named Boren. Dream on.

Fred
I just had a conversation with Mr. Thompson. One sided ,of course. He is urging Georgians to vote for Chambliss.

It probably is a lost cause. It will be stolen just like several others, including Coleman's in Mi. Franken-stein will win that through fraud,no doubt.

I was disappointed Fred did not put his heart in the race as he should have. He waited too late and the press wanted Mccain,so like all the others he was an also-ran. He got my vote and would get it again.

Teaparty
Ask yourself why most of America - the America that is young, ambitious, looking ahead - voted for Obama and against McCain, and why they consider conservatives to be out of touch, slightly crazy, and irrelevant.

Can't think of an answer? Then read your own words, "THE original Constitution not some "living rag"
some libcommie decided it is. So if a Demolibcommie swears the oath, and means the living as opposed to the REAL Constitution does that mean they perjured themselves? Does that mean any legislation they enact is invalid?"

That explains it all.

John
projection is ever your flaw.
The left in America is the uninformed non-thinking segment of our society.
They all watch TV.
YOU- are out of touch, very crazy, and will become irrelevant as soon as BO's bubble pops after Jan.20.

Jan. 20
BO's bubble will NEVER pop. The media and his followers will not abandon him. Any and all mistakes he makes or problems he encounters will be blamed on Republicans, the constitution, racism, etc.

It's easier to look ahead with Fred
at your side.

Another reason why repubs lost votes....
"Ah,yes. We must reach women and Hispanics. Reach them with what? A government check? Are you suggesting the democratic play book whereby each market(voter) segment is identified with those policies and/or promises designed specifically for them? No more melting pot but, increased balkanization?"

Its simply ridiculous how cons continue to hold on to the GOP mantra that states that minorities (and now women) vote democratic only because of giveaway programs promised by dems. Absolutely ridiculous. But it is easier to use this ingrained rhetoric than to admit that your party has an identity problem with most Americans other than white males and residents of southern states. That nationally you are viewed as racist bigots and fanatics (regardless of the validity) should raise eyebrows among you but I see its business as usual.

Great...!!! You'll make it much more easier in 2012 so keep selling that same kool-aid about minorities wanting food stamps, welfare, amnesty, etc., from the dems in exchange for a vote.

Unbelievable...

Why then?
I ask that seriously. Are you saying that women and minorities don't really agree with the Dems on various issues but support them at the polls because they view the Republicans as racist/sexist? Did Colin Powell, Condi Rice, Clarence Thomas, Sandra Day O'Connor and many more not mean anything? Did 15 billion dollars to Africa not make an impact? What exactly would change things?

No more RINOs!
Moderate and liberal Republicans have always set Conservatism back. McCain is already planning on selling us out and damaging the country further.

Check out this grass-roots petition:
http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/we-demand-true-conserva tive-leadership.html

Joey
Perception is tantamount to reality. The validity of whether or not the majority of republicans are racists is no longer a consideration. The tag has been given and in some instances, has been legitimately earned.

The poster that I quoted in my previous post is an example of what many posters on this site believe as well as cons talk show hosts and their listeners to some extent.

Personally, I don't believe your party is consumed by racists (just as America is not). However, I do think that quite a few of your most verbal members harbour racist ideologies that unfortunately cause the entire party to be painted with the idea that all are bigots and right wing fanatics.

One other point. Of the names you mentioned (Powell, Rice, O'Connor & Thomas), only Powell has considerable pull with minorities (particularly African Americans). Powell had this status before he announced his support for Obama. Rice is well respected but her allegiance to Bush whether right or wrong is somewhat uncomfortable. Clarence Thomas will never garner support from African Americans .

Just my opinion..

GLOBALISMS WHAT HAS GOTTEN US IN A MESS!
Fred writes:

"Some large nations are engaged in massive military buildups, while others seek to take advantage of our weakened financial condition to wage a kind of economic warfare that is only now possible because of our global economy. And all the while the greatest economic threat of our lifetime and our children’s lifetime—the bankrupting of our entitlements systems—will be ignored."

ASLAN WRITES: Globalism is what has gotten us in this mess. What is needed is reciprocal trade where America benefits from giving countries access to our markets. We already have built plants in other countries but its now their turn to invest in America. There is nothing wrong with a quid pro quo when it comes to our survival as a nation and its time your CFR Globalist friends learn that concept.

Big man Thompson more gobledygook?
George Washington: "Overgrown military establishements are under any form of government inauspicious to liberty, and are to be regarded as particularly hostile to Republican liberty".

George Wasshington: "No pecuniary consideration is more urgent, than the regular redemption and discharge of the public debt: on none can delay be more injurious, or an economy of thime more valuable".

James Madison: "Of all enemies to public liberty, war is, perhaps, the most to be dreaded, because it comprises and develops the germ of every other. War is the parent of armies; from these proceed debts and taxes; and armies, and debts, and taxex are the known instrument for bringing the many under the domination of the few".

Thomas Jefferson: "The principle of spending money to be paid by posterity, in the name of funding, is but swindling futurity on a large scale".

Thomas Jefferson: "Peace, commerne, and honest friendship with all nations, entangling alliances with noene".

Thomas Jefferson: "Commerce, which if properly managed, will be a better instrument for obliging the interested nations of Europe to treat us with justice">

Dwight D. Eisenhower: "Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, from those who are cold and not fed".

General Douglas MacArhur: "I am concerned for the security of our great nation; not because of any threat from without, but because of the insiduos forces working from within".

Anybody out there ready to prove to this leagal immigrant of 52+ years and a staunch conservative Christian Republican, that America is still abeying the marching orders of the Fouding Fathers, and that of some more recent truly patriots?

Two bright spots.....
.... I was able to vote for Fred Thompson in the Michigan primary was the first and voting for a woman on the National ticket was the second. Let the Liberals rant all they want. Wait until the Chosen One looses his shine,

TOP HEAVY
When the 'weight' at the top is greater than the 'strength' at the bottom to support the top-
what happens?
The BOTTOM drops out.
It will be our children and grandchildren, unable to carry the 'weight' of the burden Government imposes, and they will be 'crushed'.
The 'roots' of America will wither and die, for the 'fertilizer' has only been 'spread' at the top.

koolmuse CA, Nov 18, 2008 - 5:34 AM EST

From the hour of your post, and the tone of your comments, you must not sleep very well.

kind of telling, don't you think?

New Supermen vs.Thompson ?? :D
Mr. Thompson,
You are asleep at the wheel.
The Ruthless Globalization Elite got the power and will hang on FOREVER. They will rule by decree and by implanted chips.

There is no time to sit around enjoying the "holiday". Colorful and loud propaganda about FREEDOM needs to get out there FAST. Worrying about "women" or "gays" will not do it. Sarah is the only one I see who comes close to the "happy warrior" state of mind needed to wrest back National Sovereignty, Freedom linked with individual responsability, and respect for Nature and the mainstream Natural Way, the Godly way, which includes Life for the unborn and marriage and the family.
It's not about TOLERANCE, it's about respecting the Natural Way and fighting CHAOS. We can tolerate only so much immigration, sexual deviance, etc.before the structure of civilization collapses.

It may be hopeless. But we can try.We are seeing the peaceful "New Age" run amok and radicalized. But the message, Mr. Thompson, MUST be updated or it will continue to be a feeding frenzy for the "NEW HUMANS" who seek to dominate the world.

Koolmuse...
While you may have a few good points about Bush and the GOP, like all liberals, you simply give the Democrats a convenient pass. The President had little to do with Fannie and Freddie's melt down. Most of that blame goes to Dodd, Frank and the Dems.

I have no love, or respect, for the political elites of either party who are running this country into the ground.

"Santa Bush has given trillion$ to the billionaires (I'm sure they're happy) while millions of Americans were impoverished and froced below the poverty line."

I'm sure you are aware that the president of the U.S. can't give away a nickel of taxpayer money. Only Congress can do that. Maybe you should have mentioned, "Santa Democrat Congress".

"And Santa Bush gave the Wall St criminals a $700billion going-away Christmas present."

Again, I'm sure that you meant, "Santa Democrat Congress".

Liberals think that they can blame Bush for everything including the weather, when they should be looking in their own back yard. In the future, just blame Congress. If you don't mention GOP, I won't have to mention DNC.

Mark, KS
tell us how high your taxes are in a couple of years. I bet it will be worse than now. Obamie will make sure as he spreads your wealth

This is too funny
the libs get their guy in and are now so scared of what is going to happen that they need to keep attacking and hope to put the blame on someone else when the everything comes crashing down.

All inclusive
We are an all inclusive party! The Republican Party needs to do a better job of reaching out and explaining how conservatism is better than liberalism in hispanic and black neighborhoods. I am a woman and I am conservative with libertarian leanings. Vi

RNC's message is solid
The republican party needs to quit allowing the left and their PR machine/media to define them.

Conservatives have to be committed to standing against the left and not allow them to cloud the issue with their endless dialogue implemented for the sole purpose of overwhelming and discouraging conservatives.

NUMA

activated
Funnier still, are the Republicans who are already blaming Obama and he's not even in office yet. They will do nothing but whine the next 4 years.

It's Obama's Fault!
But, the libs say he hasn't done anything yet? So, it's still his fault!

Wow that felt good.

If two years wore you out
Then stay clear of the 2012 election, because it started Nov.5th 2008.
Vi from TN I agree with you on your thought but What is a Libertarian, definingly I mean?
Change, is an ambiguous statement and misleading as a campaign slogan that the DEms used most effectively. Me, I thoink it is all crap!
Obama promised Change, the DNC said change but I will bet Dollars to Euros that they are not one and the same.
McCain/Palin offered Change and the deeply imbedded greedy criminal part of the Party Good ol Boys have shown they do not favor CHANGE, of any kind. More Crap!
Before 2012 we as Conservative GOP members need to clean house and really make a difference in our appearance and Message.
So how do we upgrade and slim down a 5 ton pachyderm into a Joe Cool that has a plan for the Future.
Not more bad baggage.

Bipps

Are you just watching Fox? For one to think that O has just been sitting on his hands these last few weeks, takes some willful ignorance.

The two bright spots....
in this cycle were getting to vote for Fred Thompson in the Michigan primary and the being able to vote for a woman on the National ticket that shares my core values. Me must stand for our right to voice our opinions and freedom to back whom ever we choose. Great article Fred.

Fred, I supported you and still think
that you are a fine conservative. But, your statement "We have always been able to accommodate constructive change without turning our back on our first principles." is unfortunately dead wrong. Unless you are talking about imaginary people, those in congress have abandoned conservative principles over and over again. The problem is not with the principles, it is with the politicians that compromise to get along. We don't want or need to get along with our enemies!

Part 2
Nor were we the party that celebrated this practice and didn’t look away hoping no one questioned the practice. Oh, I forgot some did, like the President and some Republican Senators. The Chairman of the Committee don’t worry everything is fine stop trying to scare the public over something that is running smoothly. So please keep investing your money, there are no problems.

What was the outcome of all this, the Democrats blamed the Republican President for things the Democrats and their President’s caused and the sad thing is the public brought hook, line and sinker from the mainstream media that “covered it” they were the same who not only covered the Democrat’s President pick, they campaigned for him too. So, sorry if I don’t want to celebrate Thanksgiving or Christmas this year. I don’t see a silver lining to any this, nor do I want to celebrate it either. I know the facts and I know who’s to blame but it’s disappointing the rest of the Country couldn’t see past it. So if I want to sit back and lick my wounds, I will.

When you lay down with dogs you wake up fleas and fleas collars are at a shortage.

part 1
Mr. Thompson,

I tried to read the article you wrote and was unable to get past the first paragraph. “Give thanks for the many blessings we have been given.”

What blessing are you referring too? I’m thinking and trying really hard to see your point. Are elected officials keep wanting to throw money at banks, mortgage lenders, car manufacturers and who ever else feels they are entitled to “taxpayer” money. Americans said no let the chips fall where they may. Congress still gave them the money, ignoring the public wishes and the only people to hold them accountable were the Republicans, the same people who want to continue to hand money to irresponsible CEO’s are the same people blaming the Republicans in the first place. The Republican Party didn’t create the laws that penalized Banks and Mortgage Companies for telling an applicant “no” that they didn’t qualify to receive the home loan, who didn’t need to provide the banks or mortgage lenders with documentation that would have shown they didn’t have the capital to pay off the home loan they were requesting. That’s okay do it anyway you’ll spend time in prison if you don’t give it to them because it’s discriminating.

Fred talks, people listen
Enjoyed your article but Fred you and Huckabee
pandered to McCain, Democrat Lite, during the primaries pulling votes away from Romney. I know you may not like Mitt but we really needed a competent team to run this year. Romney and Thompson would have been a dream ticket or the other way around. Both of you actually said anything to say! I love Sarah but this 65 yr old real estate lady could have cleaned house in those debates with any of the 4 running. Am I bragging, on the contrary, I found it pretty scary their either lack of knowledge or outright mistakes. I really want someone smarter than me running the country. Sarah needs to go home, run Alaska, run for the Senate, read a whole lot of books, then we can talk about her. She has it in her and I doubt poor old McCain would have gotten as far as he did without her. But we as Republicans need to get serious and look to leaders with a brain like you, Romney, Jindal, Cantor, and few others. Newt is smart but when he started loving Huckabee, he showed he was an opportunist
We don't need "personalities" and guys with good stories, we are going to see where that leads. Someone needs to speak tough to the RNC, they pushed McCain who I am sure is a good man but he had NO message, NO solutions, and ran a dismal campaign. We do have a lot to do but continuing with the "Bob Dole" syndrome will not get us anywhere. My advise, which no one wants, Replublicans need to shut up, fight the battles as they arise, picked wisely, and don't get so picky with everything Obama does till no one hears. Remember the saying about holes and digging!
They will quickly start digging and just let them.

Blah, blah, blah...
Fred Thompson is just another US Constitution trampling, open borders idiot who advocates a path to citizenship for illegal aliens to benefit the corporations that stuff his wallet. This neoconservative, war mongering, corporate establishment politician is a prime example of why the Republican Party was stripped of its power.

Hey Mark - Kansas
As someone who does payroll I'd like to know what the heck you are talking about. Federal taxes went down, not up, by Bush's tax cuts and that was for everyone who had Federal Taxes taken out of their check. If you made so little that federal taxes aren't taken out in the first place then you surely didn't pay more with Bush's tax cuts. I can't wait til Obama lets Bush's tax cuts go kaput so you will see just how much Bush saved you. You talk out of your rear. Tax cuts for the rich was just a Democratic mantra and obviously you just repeat it and don't know what you are talking about.

A reminder
from a great statesman is what some of us needws. No matter how many times I hear the liberal left say we need to "restore America's" standing it raises the hair on the back of my neck. It's creepy and that should indicate they are going undermine everything we have fought and died for since our founding. I intend to keep up the fight, and starts in my hometown and my kids. Our children need to hear the truth from us because our schools and internet are indoctrinating them to liberism. Watch your papers and the school boards, never let down your guard. God Bless.

Time to Look Ahead
You know, it's really a shame that Fred Thompson did not gain the support of the Republican party during the Presidential campaign, because he was the best qualified candidate to lead this country. I believed it at the beginning of the campaign and I believe it now. This country has weathered many storms in our history, but only because we held fast to the Original Intent of our Founding Fathers. Our country has serious challenges ahead in the next 4 years and we're going to need serious people to help us solve them, not merely to point fingers at the previous Administration and say that they were responsible for the problems we are facing. If Barack Obama is serious enough to meet these challenges remains to be seen, but from one individual's conservative point of view, I wouldn't expect and great suprises--Well you might get some suprises, they just won't be good ones. Maybe Fred will reconsider and run in 2012. I'll just have to change the bumper sticker on the back of my vehicle to "Fred 2012."

I vote for grassroots
I have heard the argument put forth that the GOP needs to become a party of "community organizers" that understands the value and strength of good grassroots organizing. Makes sense. Doing that and owning its share of the Internet will go a long way toward boosting the GOP's stock. Republicans need to get off their only-one-way, illuminati high horses and get the job done.

Fred Thompson
I was anxious to support Mr. Thompson but he did not come up with a very active campaign. You have to really want a job like the presidency to tolerate a arduous campaign. I did not think Obama would make it but he has an impressive gang behind him and seemingly very deep pockets of exotic sources as well as a supportive media. However I don't believe people are stupid enough to vote as they do but as Samuel Goldwyn once said you will never lose money betting on the stupidity of the American public. It was an American Idol election, enough said. You can't understand the nuances of differences between parties when you don't even know who is in charge of congress and hate a president for what the news media and commedians have said about him. I have heard Bush blamed for things absolutly caused by the Democrats, it is a lose, lose situation. All money bills originate in the House of representatives. Schools don't teach government any more so how does one learn these things? The current crisis was caused in part by subprime loans, credit the Democrats and Fammie Mae and Freddie Mac. If McCain had been elected it would have been a miracle with this American Idol society we have now. They are not Democrats or Republicans they are just pawns of publicity.

Fred Was By Far The Best!
While beginning his run last he was the first to put out a detailed Conservative platform in which his was the only believable claim.

He solved all the critical issues at the time ( which doesn't mean they've gone away on their own ) on Social Security, Illegal immigration, an optional Flat tax, Government waste and corruption...he had it all and he made it available to all.

We collectively let ourselves be led by the hysteria of ridicule by the MSM and the six blue states who voted first in line to dump McClown on us. We're almost as pathetic as the participants of the Zogby poll that HowObamaGotElected.com has interviewed for not nearly enough of us were informed.

WE, the people, are a pitiful bunch of clowns and deserve whatever Comrade Barack dishes out.

Chris
Thanks for you post. It is right on! John McCain was down and out and would have been relegated back to the senate where he could continue to play footsies with our mortal enemies....the liberals.

Liberals knew he would not really turn on our enemies in a race against Obama or Hillary,so they had work to do and work they did. They would depend on the media to aid and abet them in their endeavors.

They did everything in their power to get McCain as our candidate. Everyone but conservatives voted for him. Liberals, moderates and yes,Democrats crossed over in open primary states and voted for him.

All the left then had to do was get rid of Hillary. She would not be immune to criticism as Obama would. McCain would not criticize him because he was a Democrat. The rest is history.

Fred Thompson in 4 Years
I think that Fred Thompson would of ran the USA just like Ronald Reagan did. I think that the GOP kind of pushed John McCain on us and I think his wife and her families money were the force behind this. I feel Senator John McCain is an honorable and wonderful man, but I didn't think he had it in him to BATTLE, yes! Battle Barak Obama. We have lost the fight this time and it was a very important battle. It was a battle for our VALUES. We will now be run over by Democrats that believe in abortion, same-sex marriages, tax increases that will go to welfare increases. I think we need to be very careful who we choose to represent us in 4 years and I think we can WIN back our pure valued lives.

Fred, the one and only.
I was one of the folks in Lawrenceburg a little over a year ago when you opened your campaign.

We are in for a rough ride, in effect a second term of the Carter administration. We'll survive it, but spewing anger at one and all won't help much.

Time to go to work, on the local level.

Someone out there amongst the readership needs to run for the school board, town council, etc.

Someone out there amongst the readership needs to be in contact with their state rep and senator, reminding them that we live under a Constitution.

Get the picture?

In the meantime, we can throw a few bucks every month toward FredPac.

Fred, toward the end of your run, you really found your voice, and seem to have kept it intact. You were correct all along, and events have borne out the wisdom of your words. You are a real craftsman with the English language, both written and spoken. Your best years are still ahead of you!

Keep going, keep talking, keep writing, and enjoy your family in the meantime!

Let's get busy at the local level, folks. Take all that anger, and DO something constructive with it.

Who knows what 2010 may bring, and 2012?

Strongly Disagree with Thompson's Premis
I find this to be an excellent time to recruit new members for the Constitution Party (www.constitutionparty.com). The Constitution Party is the only true conservative party left in the USA, and many are very appreciative to learn about it!

All the reasons that I left the Republican Party nearly four years ago are still there, and it is nearly as reprobate as the Democratic Party. Why not take a look at the Constitution Party!!!

The Media
Fred Thompson was my favorite choice too. Now here's the problem we all need to think about; The mainstream media is what happened in this last election. They are large and powerful, and they hate conservatives. ABC, CBS, NBC, the LA Times, the New York Times, etc. routinely refuse to let a conservative look anything but repulsive! The general public sees our candidates only how the mainstream media lets them. We do not have a prayer of a chance until we figure out how to address this very significant problem. Perhaps we should populate the new media, the internet, satellite T.V., and satellite radio. This will be the future mainstream media. We need to get their first with our message!

THompson vs. Mainstream Media

Main Stream Media Exposed Itself!
There are 50 some million people or more who now have seen what a bias media can do to slant the news to their side only and cause one man who we don't really know or what he's done for America except refuse to put his hand on his heart or wear the U.S. flag on his lapel unless he absolutely must - get elected by using their power to make or break people. The media was set up to inform, entertain, and provide news that is objective, but today, reporters are turned into entertainment opinionated one sided stars and comediennes vs. the good old days when reporters actually attempted to investigate, research, and report the truth. So, now that the cat's out of the bag then use it to the advantage of the conservatives who should only want to change back to the original intent of the U.S. Constitution which is to seek out enemies of our country and kick them out of a country we love - close the borders and follow the laws of the land - stop redistributing wealth amongst themselves - and promoting one another so they are always in the same bed!

I was...
A rabid FredHead, but in 2012 Fred will be too old I'm afraid. I'd back him again, but I just don't see it happening. I think it's gonna be the Bobby Jindahl/Sarah Palin show next time around. (which I would be fine with too)

Gene
I used to work in a union job where I was with guys who believed, unconditionally, whatever the union told them. I was so amazed at how ignorant they were. Multiply that by the millions and that's what we have here in the United States. Millions of Americans who believe, without condition, whatever they read in the papers, see on the TV, or hear on the radio. This is how Barack Obama got elected.
Two things scare me about the Democrats: The appointment of more activist judges and the reinstitution of the "Fairness Doctrine".

Fred's Problem is America's Problem
I was a Thompson supporter when he first put his hat in the ring, but quickly realized he did not have "The Fire in the belly" to be the President of the United States. Today he says: "I’m sure after this two-year campaign everyone would like to take a deep breath and put aside politics for a while." What do you say to a man who took too many "Deep Breaths" DURING his campaign? I agree with NY Gene, unless Americans WAKE UP, we will see a return of the "Clinton's" at the end of four years and we have much bigger problems than changing stained sheets and counting the sliver ware in 2012.

Direction to take?
Conservatives need to stop trying to be fair or tolerant OR COMPASSIONATE!
Conservatives need to beat Democrats at their own game of fighting dirty, using lies and propaganda and stuffing ballot boxes and promising handouts from the public treasury.

We need to terrify the media by threatening broadcast licenses like the Democrats do.
We need to do violence against anyone who dares to display a Democrat bumper sticker or yard sign.
We need to disrupt their meetings and throw pies at their speakers.
We need to silence every Democrat's voice!

Democrats are very obnoxious people who go out of their way to make enemies.
We can muster a lot of help from people Democrats have harmed and/or insulted in the past.

WES - WE ARE WILLING
my family is through talking and worrying about losing this country to the left wing sociatistic extremist. This week we all contacted our Texas congressmen and senators, both parties, and told them we do not agree with the auto bailout and it was time to represent the will of ALL of the people in Washington, not just special interest groups. My next step, as much as I hate to do it, is to watch MSN, CNN, CBS, ABC and NBC and write down the names of all of their advertisers and notify them we will no longer purchase products when they advertise with the bias media, then we'll boycott their products.
I will personally contact the president of each University in our city and discuss the credientals of their professors.
I noticed last Sunday that our church has beefed up the security. No hate yeilding liberals will distract our services.
We are mad as hell and ainn't gonna take it anymore. We have put down the plow shears !

First Principles
Fred,
Right on! Is it safe to assume that you plan on starting and building a new conservative institution some time in the near future?

THE FIRST STEPS
1. Go from the premise that all Dhimmicrats are liars rather than being snookered into deals which limit campaigns, such as the gentleman's agreement that BO broke by dropping public funding for his campaign. Insist on at least one conservative moderator for debates, rather than the monopoly of Democrat cheerleaders.

2. Find a new "Great Communicator" who can sidestep the MSM and articulate in limited media opportunities the party's vision that most American's share. Define socialism and Marxism in plain old English regarding Democrat policies, rather than assuming most voters "get it." Years of dishonest educational indoctination have rendered the words Communist, Marxist, or Socialist devoid of meaning for a large portion of the populace.

3. Stop being afraid to place the blame on the credit crisis where it rightfully belongs: Directly on the Dhimmicrat Congress for "redistributing" a large number of mortgages based on "victim" status rather than ability to pay.

4. When the recession deepens near the midterm elections due to liberal policies of tax and spend, slate conservatives who talk the talk and walk the walk on taxes and government spending.

5. Call the phoney "Blue Dogs" selected by Peolsi, Reid, and Immanuel as "Conservative-lite" on their records.

Dear Fred
As much as I agree that we need to look ahead, I believe it's imperative to look back at what got us here..."American Communist Education - Special Edition w/Video"
http://giovanniworld.wordpress.com/2008/11/17/american-comm unist-education-special-edition/

Where were you Fred?
There was a point in the RNC primary when Fred was the man. It didn't last too long, but it was there. It was there for a bright bastion of conservatism to shine forth. Instead, the man who I thought would provide us with some hope quietly opened the gate and spoke as if he had taken one too many sips of Nyquil before he went to bed. We were left with two inexperienced conservatives and a Rino.

Absolutely...where were you FRED?
I agree...we were stuck with a candidate that no one was really enthused about...now look what we have. Where is a strong conservative voice that can represent us and not be afraid of the mainstream media? What a horrible spiral to socialism we are on!

rowly....great seeing your name...
You know who I am for but he is not going to run again ! I would love to see him /Jindal!
forget Sarah too shallow!
If I said I have a resume of a person who cleaned up the biggest scandel in modern sports
in AMERICA, cleaned up a states financial mess
in less than 4 years, was a ceo and made over 250 million due to agressive smart moves, helped STAPLES,DOMINO PIZZA,ETC. Lived a squeeeky clean life would you be interested in this man for president? Most sane people would.
Well, we had such a person--Mitt Romney!
There are going to be about 12 candidates next time around...and Mitt is going to sit this one out! Our loss in my humble opinion!
Always good reading your stuff! Take care...

The Aftermath
About holding government accountable; I listen to Jay Sekalo and sign my name to petitions. I've called my legislators to state my convictions. I feel inseignificant! It doesn't seem as though I have a voice. The most important election has past and the results are horrific!
tell me what I can do. I wish I coould run for office, but I'm a home school mom who is 57.
Is it time for a Conservative Party? Will people even find Repulicans credibal?; I don't.
Are you considering running for president?
Leslie

Looking Ahead
I agree we need to look to the future but always remember to listen to God's will and let him lead. The reason we're in such a mess is because God has been left out of the decisions. This nation was founded on God's word and his principals, being politically correct seems to be more important than standing firm for what a politician believes or what they say they believe in. Unfortunately people are not always honest, some intentionally misrepresent themselves but if we pray for guidance and allow God, he will show the way. It's so sad so many fall for smooth talking and half truths. If the Republican Party would get in agreement about what is best for America, the country I was born proud of, agree who would and could do the best job as president, stop letting the personal ego get in the way and see WHAT IS BEST FOR MY COUNTRY ****IS BEST FOR ME***Instead of ***WHAT'S BEST FOR ME***Put God first, he knows what's best for America.
I pray constantly for Gov.Sarah Palin & her family. Obviously there are more than a few out there who are afraid of her and what she stands for. Well I say GOD BLESS YOU GOV. SARAH PALIN, THIS COUNTRY WOULD BE IN MUCH BETTER CONDITION IF THERE WERE MORE POLITICIANS/PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
GOD BLESS AMERICA,
CAROLYN J FRAZIER

Subject:Fred
I voted For You in the Primaries , but in S.C.
the people thought that a like minded liberal conservative McCain was better suited for the job . Now we have four years more of the Democrats And McCain , Graham , Harry And Nancy
to put up with . Social conservatives are just as bad as liberals . Next time I will v ote for someone whom is hungery for the job . I just hope Newt comes out of retirement on the slim side . We need the Fairtax and real Conservatives to run for office . The Gov. has
to much power now . The liberal Bush has done more to hurt the Republican Party than most democrats , He wasn't man enough to do what was RIGHT

ENOUGH!!!
Time to WAKE UP Fred!I’m sure after this two-year campaign everyone would like to FORGET "W" & HIS NEO-CON CRONIES. The holiday season approaches FOR WALL STREET, ET AL. It is time for all of us to give thanks THAT ALL GOVERNMENTS END - EVENTUALLY. But our gratitude for life and liberty IS EXPLOITED; RECORD DEBT hangs in the balance. Our participation as citizens of the United States MEANS THAT WE FUND MOST OF THE WORLDS FREEBIES. We are now living in a nation RUINED BY LIARS, CORPORATIONS & FACISM. THE Democratic Party committed to cutting the budget for our national defense IS CELEBRATED; AS EISENHOWER WARNED! Raising taxes IS WHAT THE GOP LEFT FOR THE FUTURE CONGRESS TO DO IN SO COWARDLY A WAY AS TO NOT LIVE ON A BUDGET. Our personal freedoms HAVE BEEN DEVOURED BY FISA, THE PATRIOT ACT AND FALSE-FLAG WARS. Democrats will do it, TOO. The judiciary IS AN APPOINTED JOKE!
In the world, the most dangerous weapons known to man HAVE BEEN GIVEN IN LIEU OF $$$ TO PAY OFF DEBT. A weakened financial condition WILL CAUSE THE USA to wage warfare IN MORE FALSE-FLAG OFFENSES. It’s not a pretty picture, is it? WAKE UP-IT'S REAL. America'S Cremains - ONCE the greatest country in the world. Responsible change is A MYTH. We must change THE WAY OUR COUNTRY STEALS FROM IT'S OWN CITIZENS - WORSE THAN KING GEORGE WHOM WE FIRST FOUGHT. Our first principles ARE ANCIENT HISTORY. But now, we should admit that VOTING OUT THOSE WE DID WAS NOT enough. Our elected officials over the past few years ARE REPREHENSIBLE AND It’s going to be a high price we pay. We are going to have to use every tool we have TO FIGHT! The challenge will be the kind of historic FIGHTING we achieved in 1776.
We gained those victories OPPOSING OPPRESSION. Promising to cut spending HAS ALWAYS GOT FOLKS ELECTED, BUT NEVER HAPPENED! Men and women willing TO SAVE THE USA - NO POLITICIAN EVER WILL. stay united and defend WHAT NAFTA & THE G-20 HAS YET TO TAKE!

Future of the Party...
Greetings Everyone!
I say Let Obama and his Ilk Have the Whitehouse
for the Next 4-8 years, he'll run out of steam
soon enough, What the G.O.P. needs to do now is
focus on the Mid-term elections, get republicans
into the House and Senate....We need to (as a
party) rally around a cause or and Idea to stir
up the people's imagination, Like the Reagan
Revolution or the Contract With America.
Even with the race in 2012, we need to focus on
where the real power lies.

America is suffering
America is suffering unlawful deception from the Alinsky group.
Group u$urp$ power on January 20th—the constitution violated.
The United States Supreme Court alone can relieve this outrage.

example: Bogus Selective Service System FOIA Registration?
http://www.debbieschlussel.com/archives/2008/11/exclusive_d id_n.html

We need to focus on more than just...
electing Republicans.

We need to focus on PRINCIPLES. If we do not remember our core conservative principles, we will elect a Republican Obama-act-a-like.

I have watched the GOP transfer from a party of small government, a respect for the Constitution and individual liberty, into every bit of a BIG government, anything goes socialist party as its brethren on the other side of the aisle.

So NO, just electing Republicans will not cut it! They need to have PROVEN through action, that they put the Constitution first, regardless of what THEY *WANT* to do. Who cares what they want to do? If it's not constitutional, the discussion should be over!

We have to go back to the basics. It is what made this country the freest and most prosperous country in the history of mankind.

Do not allow yourself to be led astray, because those currently holding the power, are not going to give it up easily.

OUR GOVERMENT
I HAVE MANY CONCERNS STARTING WITH ALL THESE CZARS THAT HAVE BEEN PUT IN OFFICE THERE ARE NOW MORE CZARS THEN FORMER PRES. AND MOST OF THEM ARE COMMUNIST AND I BELIEVE OBAMA IS ALSO.
EAQUALLY AS CONCERNING IS THE HEALTH CARE WE HAVE THE BEST IN THE WORLD AND OBAMA AND HIS H.H.S. SECRATARY SAY IT IS THE WORST IN THE WORLD,HOW DUMB DO THEY THINK WE ARE, WE ARE BROKE AND THEY KEEP SPENDING MONEY, STOP THE HEALTH CARE MESS AND LEAVE US ALONE I WANT TO KEEP MY OWN CARE.I WANT TO MAKE MY OWN LIFE DECESSIONS.
