Poll
Will Sarah Palin make a run at the GOP Nomination in 2012?

Over the 4th of July holiday, I, like many of my colleagues, was able to speak with hundreds of constituents. Folks were more eager than ever to talk to me about unaffordable energy prices. And when they asked what Washington is doing to address this issue, unfortunately, I had to tell them nothing. But not because of a lack of Republican will.

Despite Democrat promises of ‘common sense’ plans to lower gas prices, the average price of a gallon of gas has increased by more than 76 percent since they took control of Congress.

Republicans understand that advancing America’s energy security, and working to bring down gas prices, will require a comprehensive approach that promotes responsible domestic energy production, increased conservation and efficiency standards, and robust research and development to expand the use and application of alternative energy sources.

This is why I introduced legislation this week aimed at securing America’s Energy Independence over the next 15 years. It is no longer a question of ‘if’ we can do this – it is a question of ‘will.’

Poll after poll shows that the American people favor Republican-led American energy production policies. And Democrat leaders know that if a vote to increase American energy production was permitted, it would handily pass.

But there is nothing common sense about the Democrats standing idly by – blocking the will of the American people – while working-class families continue to struggle with the pain at the pump and the growing burden high energy costs place on family budgets.

As part of the continued Republican-led efforts to increase American energy supply – efforts supported by over 70 percent of Americans – I offered a discharge petition to force a vote on Democrat Congressman Rick Boucher of Virginia’s and fellow Illinois Republican Congressman John Shimkus’ coal-to-liquid promotion bill. This legislation would not only have tremendous impact on my home state of Illinois, but the entire nation.

This is a common sense approach to bring down the price at the pump and wean America off foreign oil. America, after all, is the Saudi Arabia of coal. In fact, according the Energy Department, our reserves represent over a quarter of the world’s entire coal supply. This is enough to last well beyond the year 2200. It is mindless for us to not use the abundant amounts of coal that we have to our advantage.

Cutting edge technologies have allowed us to utilize coal’s diverse potentials. Not only are we using coal in cleaner and more environmentally sound methods, but importantly, we can turn coal into gasoline and diesel. Our military is heavily invested in using coal-to-liquid technologies for jet fuel, so there is also a major national security element in this source of energy. Continued...

Newton said … … …

We have all heard of Newton’s Third Law,

"Every action has an equal and opposite reaction."

So don’t hold your breath, but just wait until some Enviornut determines that the use of all those windmills has changed the air movement beyond those windmills.

If there is an action of the wind on those windmills, there is an equal reaction on the movement of the wind.

That causes tornados, changes the movement of clouds and that changes the rainfall, and the bottom line, those windmills are the cause for global warming.

Just think of all the pollution caused by the trucks that deliver those windmills to their tax deductible location.

Put them where the sun don't shine

Solar water heaters are seen everywhere in Greece. I remember the man who owned a large campground in Greece. He was so proud of his “free” hot water, until I suggested he figure the cost to originally install it, and now, just a few years later, the cost to repair or replace the roof-top equipment that “produced” all that “free” hot water, and already needs repairs.

That was only the money cost to him, not the environmental costs to produce and deliver the equipment. “Free” was not so “free.”

I also asked him how people were able to take a shower at 11 PM, after his sun heated water ran out. He didn’t care.

Why doesn’t someone figure the cost to the environment to build any kind of power generating system. Years ago an article in the LA Times by a non-nuclear idiot said, “… a nuclear power plant must operate for 18 years before realizing one net calorie of energy.” Of course the article carefully did not state how many years are needed to gain “net” calories from a newly built coal or oil fired plant, a windmill, solar panels, or a hydro-electric dam.

I lived in the Palm Springs area for years, and watched the ugly windmills by the thousands being spread al over the beautiful hills and valleys. If someone had dared to put a sign, or a useful building in those spots, they would have been shot by the enviornuts.

But what is the total cost in natural resources to build and install a windmill, a solar panel? And that must include the cost of the wear and tear on the roads, when they gather the resources to create, assemble, install, maintain, these tax shelters.

Oh and by the way. What do you do when the sun is not shining and the wind is not blowing? And don’t tell me that batteries are an environmentally safe answer.
