Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

WASHINGTON -- Israel's leaders have purposely obscured their war aims in Gaza. But there are only two possible endgames: (A) a Lebanon-like cessation of hostilities to be supervised by international observers, or (B) the disintegration of Hamas rule in Gaza.

Under tremendous international pressure -- including from an increasingly wobbly U.S. State Department -- the government of Ehud Olmert has begun hinting that it is receptive to a French-Egyptian cease-fire plan, essentially acquiescing to Endgame A.

That would be a terrible mistake.

It would fail on its own terms. It would have the same elements as the phony peace in Lebanon: an international force that abjures any meaningful use of force, an arms embargo under which arms will most assuredly flood in, and a cessation of hostilities until the terrorist side is rearmed and ready to initiate the next round of hostilities.

The U.N.-mandated disarmament of Hezbollah in Lebanon is a well-known farce. Not only have foreign forces not stopped Hezbollah's massive rearmament. Their very presence makes it impossible for Israel to take any preventive military action, lest it accidentally hit a blue-helmeted Belgian crossing guard.

The "international community" is now pushing very hard for a replay in Gaza of that charade. Does anyone imagine that international monitors will risk their lives to prevent weapons smuggling? To arrest terrorists? To engage in shootouts with rocket-launching teams attacking Israeli civilians across the Gaza border?

Of course not. Weapons will continue to be smuggled. Deeper and more secure fortifications will be built for the next round. Mosques, schools and hospitals will again be used for weapons storage and terrorist safe havens. Do you think French "peacekeepers" are going to raid them?

Which is why the only acceptable outcome of this war, both for Israel and for the civilized world, is Endgame B: the disintegration of Hamas rule. It is already under way.

This is not about killing every last Hamas gunman. Not possible, not necessary. Regimes rule not by physically overpowering every person in their domain, but by getting the majority to accept their authority. That is what sustains Hamas, and that is what is now under massive assault.

Hamas' leadership is not only seriously degraded but openly humiliated. The great warriors urging others to martyrdom are cowering underground almost entirely incommunicado. Demonstrably unable to protect their own people, they beg for outside help, receiving in return nothing but words from their Arab and Iranian brothers. And who in fact is providing the corridors for humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians? Israel.

In the first four minutes of this war, the Israel Air Force destroyed 50 targets, taking down practically every instrument and symbol of Hamas rule. Gaza's Potemkin leaders were marginalized and rendered helpless, leaving their people to fend for themselves. At such moments, regimes are extremely vulnerable to forfeiting what the Chinese call the mandate of heaven, the sense of legitimacy that undergirds all forms of governance.

The fall of Hamas rule in Gaza is within reach, but only if Israel does not cave in to pressure to stop now. Overthrowing Hamas would not require a permanent Israeli reoccupation. A transitional international force would be brought in to immediately make way for the return of the Palestinian Authority, the legitimate government whose forces will be far less squeamish than the Europeans in establishing order in Gaza.

The disintegration of Hamas rule in Gaza would be a devastating blow to Palestinian rejectionists, who since the Hamas takeover of Gaza have been the ascendant "strong horse" in Palestinian politics. It would be a devastating blow to Iran as patron of radical Islamist movements throughout the region, particularly after the defeat and marginalization of Iran's Sadrist client in Iraq. It would encourage the moderate Arab states to continue their U.S.-allied confrontation of Iran and its proxies. And it would demonstrate Israel's irreplaceable strategic value to the U.S. in curbing and containing Iran's regional ambitions.

Olmert had such an opportunity in Lebanon. He blew it. He now has a rare second chance. The one-step-from-madness gangster theocracy in Gaza -- just four days before the fighting, the Hamas parliament passed a Sharia criminal code, legalizing, among other niceties, crucifixion -- is teetering on the brink. It can be brought down, but only if Israel is prepared -- and allowed -- to complete the real mission of this war. For the Bush State Department, in its last significant act, to prevent that with the premature imposition of a cease-fire would be not just self-defeating but shameful.

I didn't check out Patrick from Il's recommended web site d I won't...but you may want to check out http://www.honestreporting.com check out "the photo that started it all" I bet they could use you

C'mon Aurgula..
The Palestinians are already sheltering Hamas in their homes-unwillingly, most likely, at least for those who really desire to live a normal life. Hamas hides behind their own women and children, just as Hezbollah did in Lebanon. And the gullible media, along with the idiots at the UN, buy it every time.

If Israel's goal was to wipe out every Palestinian, as you seem to think, they are going about it the wrong way, warning civilians to flee the area before they strike, and by opening the corridors for humanitarian aid-which, by the way, does not seem to be coming from any of the so-called, "friends" of the Palestinians.

Super column, Charles, and God bless.

The Real problem.
Islamist Groups are Responsible for
worldwide terror. There are numerous radical islamist groups, all with the same agenda: bringing down Israel and the West, thereby eliminating any barrier to their ultimate goal of bringing the world under Islam's yoke.

Radical Immams make no secret of this. Any youtube search will make that clear.
Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Hamas, are groups that we are familiar with, however there are many in the shadows, such as those who committed the atrocities in Mumbai.

Al-Shabaah(the youth)is a Somoli based group(the pirates of the gulf of Aiden). This group has attacked and kidnapped westerners and threatened international peace keepers.

Jaish-e-Mohammad and Hizbul Mujahideen of Pakistan/Kashmir: responsible for beheading Daniel pearl and attacks against India;s civilians and members of parliment.

Harkat-ul-Jihad-al-Islam: Out of Bagladesh, responsible for many bombings in that are and attempts to assassinate the country's Prime Minister.

There are Hamas and Al-Qaeda cells within every major city of the U.S.(Homeland security study)waiting for their orders.
Those who blame actions of the U.S or Israel for this resurrgence of Radical Islamism fail to see the big picture evidenced by their actions in many nation/states having no relation or ties to the U.S or Israel.

Gaza: CK analysis
Well, once again Charles provides us clarification and ideas regarding the Isaraeli/Palestinian conflict. Israel knows what it has to do and must "stay the course" as long as necessary to maintain their freedom and protect its citizens. Hamas has no intention of ending this terrorist behavior. Hamas is a terrorist group, their goal is to destroy Israel, and any individual, group or country that supports Hamas is a supporter of terrorist tactics and is suspect. Isreal must defend their homeland. We would do the same and must support them!

Charles K...Gaza.
You are so right in your assessment. The goal in a fight or war is to win, less it gets bigger in the future! Have we not learned this from terrorism in the past; if not defeated completely, they don't get smaller, they get bigger and do more harm; you can't put off, or worse fake, destroying them as Bill Clinton did hoping they'll go away, because they will hit you harder the next time; look at their historical record...facts not make believe!!

True
it now appears that the whole campaign to search for WMD etc. etc. and so forth was a ruse and that the UN etc. does not really care `what happens to Israel`.

I would go one better. They do care.

They thrive on suffering and hardship and whilst they want to make the case for the Palestinians (ha ha)- they made the same case in 1933 about the `poor Germans`- they are actually taking tremendous glee in causing marathon problems for Jews around the world.

The UN can consider itself responsible for the acts of vandalism against Jews, synagogues, and Jewish property taking place around the world (Sweden and France for instance) and not just in Israel.

What the reaction to Israel`s retaliation against Palestinian aggression has shown (and the American school in Gaza must accept responsiblity) is that the war against the Jews prevails unabated.

How Israel deals with the aftermath is something we should all monitor and combine to work against antiSemitic forces in the media and elsewhere which insist that the country accept aggression and loss of life without doing anything about it (in the long run)

How Will We Pay For the Bail Out?
Everything talks about the trillions that the feds are printing and handing out like there's no tomorrow and Obama is pushing for more to be printed without knowing what happened to the $350 billion that they gave to the banks and they aren't saying - So, how will America pay the $60 billion of interest every year and pay down the national debt at the same time - the answer is simple - America can't do it - so what's left after the short time recovery, folks? I guess they'll not only be sending us IOU's for our tax refunds but they'll be raising the cost of living and create a system of haves and have nots as they keep the borders open and allow millions of legal immigrants to floor into our country at our expense during an economic crisis and during war time. Printing trillions without a plan to pay it back and passing it out to themselves and buddies who created this mess isn't the answer - give it to the people and small businesses who have plans to expand and create jobs -

Hamas
Simply put, Hamas must be completely destroyed.
Turn Israel loose and see what happens.
Then see how the Palestinians, Iran and the rest of the Arab world react. They only understand brute force from an iron fist.
"The One" and his minions have no comprehension on how to deal with the situation. Being weak-willed won't solve the problem. It didn't before WWII.

Analysis Made Easy
Step 1. Determine the position of the International Association of Dictators and Tyrants (UN).

Step 2. Take the opposite position.

You will never be wrong.

Our Foreign Policy Mistakes
I think we could all us a history lesson.
http://www.campaignforliberty.com

What is wrong with our foreign policy? Everything and Pres. Elect Obama's won't be much different.

To what end?
Interesting. We supposedly went to war with Iraq as Saddam did not obey UN security council resolutions, and yet here you are egging on Israel to do just that.

So what’s Krauthammer’s thesis here? That by hitting Gaza hard enough, Hamas will fall? What does he base this delusional assessment on? More likely, the Palestinian people will instead rally behind Hamas, sheltering them in their homes, to the point where for all intensive purposes, the Palestinians are Hamas. So what does that leave Krauthammer and townhall? Kill every Palestinian? Is that your solution?

So come on you god fearing folk, go on the record. I dare you. Admit that killing one million children (there are that many in Gaza) is acceptable “collateral damage”. Be like Krauthammer, and cheer on the tanks!

DeepThought 42
Retaliation is a word I like LOTS better than Proportionality!! (I'm still trying to figure out EXactly what that word means).
I also like "SWAG" but as a 25 year Military Vet
I'd have to say we dealt more often in "WAG's"

EndGame
Mr. Krauthammer has, as always, put it so simply
and correctly. If the Israeli leadership is smart, which it has not shown in the past, it will do what it has to do. If they continue to play the game of the UN we will continue to be on this endless carousel of conflict, truce (while the terrorists rearm) and conflict again.
Thank you Mr. Krauthammer. If only we had more honest journalists like you.

jmo51
Basically I agree. They have to have a 'revolution' and overthrow their masters. As in most situations like that, the powers-that-be are a minority (possibly a significant sized minority, but a minority) of the population.

Their version of 'the legions of the greeat unwashed' need to stand up and the only way that will happen is knowledge of CERTAIN personal disaster.

Again, IMHO.

What Civilians?
There are no civilians in Gaza. I'm waiting for Israel to get tough. They've been just playing games so far.

Deep Thoughts
Firstly it is clear that saving Palistinians Lives is not on Hamas's Agenda. In Hamas's view Palistinians who die are martyrs to the ultimate cause. Why would Hamas launch Rockets when they know that Israel will sooner of later retiate. Hamas is interested in increasing its stature in the greater middle east and with the Palistinians street. Many Palistinians are frustrated at how crummy their lives are but do not blame their own leaders but instead blame Israel.

As to preventing Hamas from putting bombs in populated areas the People of Gaza may have elected Hamas but they certainly do not control it. Anyone who reproached a Hamas leader for firing rockets from neighborhood or mosques or schools would certainly be branded as a traitor and killed. Palistinians may have had elections but they still do not have a rule of law.

as to proportionality. The concept is contracry to deterance especially when your enemy thinks they have a religious duty to die for the cause.

Nor will it set back the peace process, quite the contrary, Palistinianas will not make peace because they have come to appreciate Isreal's point of view. They will make peace when the realize that war with Israel will only result in more suffering for their side and get them no where.

Ironically Irael's gesture of Peace by leaving Gaza was seen as a sign of Israel weakness. So the best way for Israel to help the Palistinians to get a homeland is act tough when Israel is threatened.

Retaliation
I think it would take several months or a year or two at most (I freely admit that this is a SWAG estimate - scientific wild *ss guess).

Certainty of retaiation is the key. A 90% chence of return personal damage would not work because 'allah would protect them' and keep them in the 10%. A 100% certainty would change that belief.

To Deep Thought
"If you knew that if a rocket was launched from near your house then your house would be destroyed WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, then it would certainlty behoove you to prevent rockets from being launched there."

The great majority of Americans WOULD stop shooting the rockets, or would resist others firing them. However, the Palestinian Arabs (or at least a VERY large proportion of them) are demonstrating a mindset that most Americans cannot comprehend. Many, many Palestinian Arabs place a higher value on attempting to kill Jews than they place on their won lives, on their own prosperity, and even on the the lives of their own children.

That is why I disagree with you, Deep Thought. Any person rational by our standards would stop launching rockets, but the Palestinian Arabs are rational by a much different standard.

That is why I think you have hit upon the proper, ethically-justifiable, and ONLY workable solution, but I am convinced that the solution would take decades to work.

I fear that God is going to have to settle this one.

addendum
It's not the point of disproportionality, it's the concept of certain and specific retaiation.

If you knew that if a rocket was launched from near your house then your house would be destroyed WITH ABSOLUTE CERTAINTY, then it would certainlty behoove you to prevent rockets from being launched there.

When the Palestinian people stop the rocets, they wil stop. Until that time (if it ever comes) they will continue.

(disclaimer for objectivity: I am Jewish and have relatives in Israel)

Biased reporting costing lives
As of this morning I have tabulated 302 news reports (printed and television)on the situation in thr Middle East. 283 of these reports have focused on the horrible death and destruction results of Israeli actions while only 19 have even mentioned Israel citizens deaths and property damage in Israel has been mentioned only 13 times. Apparently the MSM (printed and televised) has been instructed to IGNORE any reasons for the Israeli war machine to attack the poor innocent Hamas citizens.

Rocket launch pads
Deep thought 42 is right on. Israel must bomb with disproportionate force every single rocket launch pad. Israel can not afford to (barely)win the battles again, only to lose the war a la Lebanon 2006 vs Hezbollah. Hamas must be obliterated.

way to stop rockets
Simple solution... Satellites can pinpoint the location of a lightning strike. Surely they can pinpoint the location of a rocket launch.

Everytime a rocket is launched from Gaza (or Lebanon, etc) return 1 big bomb (delivered by rocket, aircraft, it doesn't matter) to the launch point, a bomb big enough to flatten a about 20 meter radius.

When people see that when rockets are launched from near their home/school/etc said home/school/etc ceases to exist, it won't take long for them to stop allowing the rockets to be launched from there.

The only way to stop the attacks is for the people there to stop them.

You speak
the truth Mr. Krauthammer, though once Clueless O takes over he will do his best to reinstate his radical muslim brothers to power, he does owe them dont you know. Newsbusted just today announced the Clueless O to swear in on his bible the koran,I never expected that he wouldn't.

WMD's In America!
I think the American people should worry about the WMD's that are here legally or illegally walking on our soil called foreign immigrants who state that they are here to dominate our country and establish their own political agenda akak political agenda on our soil by force and in secret and take to our streets screaming out threats, obscenities to the American Jews who they screamed, "bigger ovens" and that these human WMD's are more dangerous than those on foil soil since they brought their battles to our country under the guise of loyalty to America to get into our country with their own personal unknown agendas. WMD's come in all forms and are hidden everywhere.

STANDING IN THE GAP
Hamas and their ilk hate the United States just as much as they hate Israel and what they are doing now in Israel is acting out the aggression that the terrorist world would like to inflict upon us. In the face of a shared enemy we ought to support Israel in every capacity. This tiny nation is standing in the gap for The US.

For DanNV, an analogy
Let us suppose that a 12-floor building was flattened by an earthquake. Would it be sensible then, to reconstruct on the exact same spot, salvaging the rubble of the fallen building for materiel, a "new" building and then add another 6 floors to it?

This is exactly analogy of League Of Nations (LN) and its successor UN!

stay the course
i agree totally.

where were the naysayers when israel
was getting bombed for the past few years?

israel should stay it's course.

otherwise this is destined to repeat
over, and over. ad infinitum.

Sense or Senility?
Oh Charles,
Why do you insist in giving those defenders of their homes, those PARTISANS, bad names like terrorists?
The Palestinians are the dispossessed, the exiled 'Children of Abraham' - have been so since 1948. There is a lot wrong with Israel, its foundation, its conquest, its selfrighteous ultranationalism. It reminds of a bad name inhistory: Abraham and Jacob lived in peace, as immigrants with their new neighbours - but the came...
a 1st Reich: the ethnical holocaust and conquest after Exodus;
a 2nd Reich: the religiously cleansed orthodox intolerance after the Exile,
a 3rd Reich: the ethnically cleansed, now very ‘Unholy Land’ after 1948.

And it is not good to look like that other 3rd one. The letters of 1948 were so full of hope and promise: that out of suffering would come a new humane humanity – but what came, were not the Jews who had suffered, but the radical Zionist terrorists.
You see: I met among my friends quite a few who had been in prisons and KZs, and none of them would have even dreamt of cruelty of such a kind and measure. To be a Jew does not mean being Zionist - as being German does not make a NAZI.

Charles Krauthammer has one of the Sex-
yist Minds on earth BUT...even tho I usually agree with him 99.99% of the time. I was shocked that he isn't more verbal on the WORSE POSSIBLE appointment by Nobama..Leon Panetta ! He was Chief of Staff and involved with Clinton when we were attacked 3 times by Terrorist and chose to NOT kill Osama when they had the chance. This man has ABSOLUTELY NO experience and is a bleeding heart liberal from hell.We along with Israel are no longer safe after Husseins Coronation!

The Best Way to Rein in Rogue Regimes
The best way to reign in the rogue regimes around the world is to hold the populations of those places accountable for the people whom they allow to rule over them. Ultimately, it is they who are responsible.

Just because the people of a particular country would rather live in subjugation and oppression rather than take the hard but necessary steps to remove their dictators/theocrats/et al does not mean the rest of the world has to tolerate it.

While one can always sympathize with, or even provide assistance to, oppressed peoples around the world, the equation changes when their malignant leadership starts exporting trouble to other nations. Then, they become complicit in the actions of their leaders.

It is this notion, which until very recently in history was accepted as self-evident, that provides the ethical justification for incurring civilian casualties whenever the inevitable response to foreign aggression comes.

RE: Good Advice
Mr.Krauthammer's latest piece once again is inciteful, germaine and provacatively accurate in his assessment of the Israeli-Hamas conflict. Please make sure Mr. Ohlmert and his advisors receive a copy immediately if not sooner.

Good Sense
Distribute this article to those protesting brats in San Francisco.

Civilians in Gaza Have Made Their Bed...
Shed no tears for the people of Gaza. It is they who have empowered Hamas and it is they who will and should have to pay the price for their decision.

If the Palestinians in Gaza wish to live in peace, then they should not have selected leaders who want to shoot rockets into Israel. Of course, if it is war they want, it appears that Israel is willing to accomodate them.

People need to get over this fuzzy-minded notion that the civilian populations of these belligerent regimes are somehow victims of foreign aggression, whenever these countries respond to the miliary and terroristic actions of the leaders whom they have permitted to act on their behalf.

My dear JMO 51 Reply 15
First of all the Israeli's can't "reoccupy" someplace they own. Gaza was and is part of Israel. It is only the the politically correct US State Department that agrees to define it as occupied territory.
So your answer is to wait until the Palestinian extremists will grow to love the Israelis and until they do whenever they lob rockets across the border you would disproportionately attack them.
I'm glad you are not in charge of my security.

Why Should Israel Be Providing
any humanitarian aid for the Hamas supporters?
Furthermore, I see no reason for Israel to so scrupulously avoid any civilian casualties. That doesn't win you any points in war (the UN and Europeans will condemn Israel regardless) and probably prolongs the war.

Time for Israel to get serious and send them back to the stone age which is not terribly far in the case of the Hamasites. That's the only thing Arabs understand.

Who is the enemy?
The media is somehow obsessed with finding reports of accidental killing of innocents by those who choose to stop years of random murder by Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists.

When will we learn that peaceful innocents that vote for Hamas control put the entire Gaza region into the jihad to wipe Israel off the map. Encouraged by support from U.S. $ for oil from Iran, etc. pays for the needed guns, ammunition and rocket making materials to wage terror on Israel.

When Hamas hides among its so-called innocent women and children, it is a smart move for them and a dumb one for Israel to pay the price of allowing such sanctuaries and image of innocents to make their defense more costly. Women in Gaza belong to the Hamas men, and must produce children to become students of hate to die as so-called martyrs. Their guilt by association is relieved in only one way- escape to another land.

One hopes that these people might overthrow Hamas and change the policy, but it is not likely that Abbas or anyone else can reverse the teaching and ultimate renewal. Only removing all that want to leave before leaving the rest to die or surrender first is the only course that will change this landscape.

Its hard to accept such a conclusion, but age and experience combined with knowledge of history leaves little room for any other conclusion.

What targets are innocent?

Pragmatic Policies
Never underestimate the ability of Bush/Rice to act shamelessly. Ohlmert can act foolishly. The imminent election in Israel may force wisdom into the "cease fire process". If Israel does not complete the task of pacifying Hamas, Netanyahou will win the election and complete the task.

Necessary, but no win
Israel's action against Hamas is necessary, but Krauthammer and other American supporters of Israel are wrong in hoping that the defeat of Hamas will settle anything. Of course the action has killed a lot of Hamas fighters, and will eliminate many more before it is over. However, short of removing every Palestinian from Gaza, there will still be plenty of people there who are willing and able to continue to wage war against Israel.

Until the Palestinians and the Arab world as a whole recognizes Israel's right to exist, there will be no real peace. It's that simple. Israel cannot accomplish this goal, no matter how much force it uses. The children of Palestinians killed today will grow up to fire rockets at Israel tomorrow.

This does not mean Israel should yield. The Palestinians want the land occupied by Israel, all of it. And they seek the destruction of the Jews, all of them. No people and no country can face such a threat and not fight.

Much of the Left stands, as if by conditioned reflex, with the Palestinians, and opposed to Israel. If only Israel could give up enough land, they imagine, most being unwiling to see that in opposing the actions of Israel, they oppose the existence of Israel.

Israel
Good article Mr. Krauthammer.
If Israel does not do what is necessary to completely destroy Hamas, She is doomed. Hezbolla is waiting on the outskirts to finish Israel off if they cave into the Ununited nations decree of Cease fire.
Israel should broadcast to Gaza for all who want to live in peace,"Leave Gaza" in what ever manner they can. Maybe the UN can supply ships to take the Palestineans to some other country, may be France. Sounds Good. Then they can take on Hamas, completely destroying them. Gaza should be Israel, forget Palestine. I would, if I were Israel, shake the Nuclear fist at the rest of the Arab world, telling them not to get involved. A couple of Nukes on Iran would do the trick, don't you think?
I agree with Irisheyes, This war is between Islam and the Judeochristian comminity. It will either be won or lost in these early days. If the Judeochristian community gives into the Political correctness of the world, they are lost.

For Ronald @ 07:36
Actually, Patrick is partly right. Many of the rocket-firing militants are affiliated with multiple groups (partly so Hamas could infiltrate Fatah-affiliates with its operatives), so it would be easy for Hamas to hide its tracks by having its multi-militants take credit for one of the non-Hamas groups. BTW, this was ACTUALLY done during the Hamas-declared "ceasefire".

However, Patrick's post is like the legendary Irish wag who claimed that Titanic sank because its number from Belfast shipyards was "3909-04", read "NO-POPE" backwards (Robert Ballard disproved this tale), and an insult to God (closer: the designers of Titanic DID claim that "even God could not sink her"), due to his reference to a bakvas website.

Krauthammer's analysis is on the nail.

No surprise that the UN was ineffective on Hizbullah in 2006--the organisation has always justified its nickname of "useless numpties"!

The Sheep who cry Wolf
The UN, that bastion of good with such an immaculate record of success in its every role as peacemaker and peacekeeper is crying the loudest for Israel to cease all hostilities.

As Mr. Krauthammer points out, one only need to look to Israel's North at the wonderful job the UN has done to disarm Hezbollah in Lebanon, to get a glowing example of what it means to get the "international community" to act as intermediaries for peace. I would sooner surround myself with members of Code Pink in a fight that with the fearsome Blue Helmets

The UN doesn't want peace, the more conflict there is around the world, the more money they believe they can extort from the obsequious West for "humanitarian" aid. As for moderate Muslims and Arabs, they could end the problem today if they would act as the benefactor for the Palestinians but they choose instead to also build fences and guard their borders from the oh-so-righteous people of Palestine.

If all who condemn Israel would focus the same level of ire on Arab nations who summarily turn their backs on their own people, peace in the region may be possible. But then, who could the Arabs count on to be the proxy voice of hatred towards the Israelis?

More tilted opinions
I’m afraid as the liberals worldwide come together who appear now to be very anti-semitic; the realities that face Israel appear to only gloom and boom, as a series of Celebrities right on cue start degrading and harping on it’s government to stop the hateful message they are sending. What? Their twisted and warped minds appear to be a hyperbole of their own hypocritical disbelieves. As a conservative I find their statements and comments to be anti-semitic, especially those of the Jewish persuasion in the fish bowl known as Hollywood; who pretty much own and operate the Hollywood community. Roseanne Barr, who is Jewish herself and made her former husband, Tom Arnold convert to Judaism prior to their marriage, is the latest critic and called the latest fighting a similar attack that the Nazi and Hitler did in the 1940’s to the Jews.

Since this woman has a history of mental illness and her past statements regarding her father’s incest, the physical abuse from all her former husband and her penchants for staging incidents where paparazzi cameras just happen to be near and self-promotion; I’ll have to look at this as another cry for attention from a liberal, former comedian who most like fears the public think she’s dead.

But these celebrity cowards aren’t including any real facts and forget to mention that the Israeli government is only responding to the attacks started and perpetrated by the Palestinians and Hamas who shot missiles into Israel over 200 times last year during the noted cease fire.
The liberals are still the bullies on the playground who steal your lunch money and kick sand in your face. I think let them keep talking because eventually they’ll run out of air and causes to object too, who will eventually end up criticizing and objecting to themselves.

This is no longer about land; it’s about religion Judaism/Christianity verses Islam/Muslim. Will Barr, Lennox and Madonna make an announcement that they have converted to the Muslim religion?

Finish It, Israel! Flatten Gaza
You gave the 'palestinians' the land.

They used it to fire rockets at you.

Level it.

Make it a no man's land, a buffer zone from which no cowardly murderers can launch their Iran-supplied rockets.

Get it over with before the 'world community' succeeds in a 'diplomatic solution.'

RW
The reason is simple. All the liberal columnists and newspapers blindly support the crazies and claim they are being oppressed by Israel and are only lashing out at the alleged aggressors in this conflict. Support of Israel may not be a cornerstone of conservatism but seeking and telling the truth is. Why do you have a problem with conservatives pointing out the lies of the major media? Why do you have a problem with some people standing up to the overwhelming narrative pushed by the anti-Jew media and the whipping up of anti_Jewish sentiment by world leaders and the major media? The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing.

Your framing of your presumption is very telling. Why does an action by Israel against crazies in the Gaza area gain so much outraged writing? Indeed why? The outraged writing is almost entirely anti-Israel and pro-Palestinian. An increase in the number of conservative columnists against this tide is a bad thing?

No cease fire without results
The Palestinians and the entire Arab world for decades pounded Israel with outright war--48, 67, 73--and then with relentless terror, but it is ALWAYS the Israelis who are castigated for their *response* and *proportionate* retaliation, as if Israelis like to live life on a war footing every single day.

Israel has never thrown all of its army and tanks and weaponry into any of these ceaseless conflicts. She hasn't sent all of her tanks into Gaza. She hasn't completely mobilized her air force to strafe all of Gaza. Israel always holds back and the UN, the US, and the *world* ALWAYS forces Israel to accept bad truces and agreements.

The worse was Oslo that brought Arafat back from exile in Tunisia so Clinton could have a Middle East legacy and get a Nobel Peace Prize. All that turmoil did was strengthen the Palestinians and drive Israel out of Lebanon and Gaza, give power to Hamas, and gave its enemies immediate freedom to re-arm and begin terrorizing again.

And where are the UN observers and peace keepers while Hamas imports missiles? What about the Egyptian role in not monitoring Gaza?

Most of the whining comes from the left. They don't think Israel should defend itself, especially the self-hating Jews.
Those on the right are much more likely to be God fearing and realize that we have a duty to support Israel no matter what.
Not only that, but conservatives think with their brains and not with their emotions.
Israel needs to crush Hamas, take back Gaza, and not give up one more acre of land for "peace" ever again.

Reality check...
Of all the violence going on in the world at the moment, why does an action by Israel against crazies in the Gaza area gain so much outraged writing and whining by conservative columnists?
The fact must be pointed out again and again -- support or lack thereof for Israel has NOTHING to do with conservatism.

TH posters: Feel free to cut and paste the above onto every thread on the Gaza situation.

Thank God for a country with the
courage to fight for its people against a group of dangerous bullies. They should not back down at all lest the routine begin again.

The UN should just shut up. Israel is doing them a favor. They remind me of impotent men who repeatedly punch their wives because they can't get it up.

Bullying???
Accusing Israel of Bullying Palestineans is similar to being attacked with a .22 cal pistol and responding with a .44 cal and being accused of overkill. If you are being attacked, respond with overwhelming force. I suspect that those crying foul/Bully would use any/every thing available (short of nukes) if their country was having explosive rockets being shot into their country with ANY target acceptable

Your prescription is wrong. Israel would gain nothing by permanently reoccupying Gaza. Agreed the Palistinians were not ready for peace otherwise they would have seized the opportunity created by a Unalateral withdrawl from Gaza.

Until the Palistinians are ready to accept Isreals existence and work towards a two state solution they will continue to suffer and die. Isreal can accomplish the same thing by controlling the border and responding disproportionally to any rocket attacks. In otherword do what it is doing now.

The ones most able to exert pressure on the Palitistinans are the more moderate arab states. If they say make peace and we will help you, make war and you are on your own.

Count on it
"For the Bush State Department, in its last significant act, to prevent that with the premature imposition of a cease-fire would be not just self-defeating but shameful."

Count on it.

Right on, Dr. Krauthammer
You hit the nail squarely on the head. Great article!

Thanks

My Sniper Fire Scenario
As a realist and conservative I can find only one bright spot in this never-ending conflict. With Hillary as secretary of state perhaps in her trips to the Middle East and Palestine she will find herself under fire from snipers.

Deja vu all over again!

Purplegimp Is There
For many of those who are not aware, Purplegimp is in Israel and in range of the Hamas rockets.

In my opinion, Israel should continue with their campaign and erase Hamas (in Gaza) from the face of the Earth. These Hamas "Idiots" are nothing but thugs and scum.

Unbelievable
Those self same wailing hamass terrorists who have been begging for humanitarian aid attacked the convoys bringing it to them.

And we are supposed to negotiate them?

Giving up Gaza
Who ever came up with the idea that giving up Gaza would lead to peace for Israel doesn't read tea leaves very well. Fatah looks somewhat benign next to Hamas, but both want to see an end to the state of Israel.
I see no purpose in Israel spilling blood in Gaza if they are just going to turn it back to Palestinian rule and believe Abbas will/can keep his people in check.
The Palestinians hate Israelis, it is a fairy tale to think that these two states can live peacefully side by side in this tiny sliver of land.
This is like the definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result. Give the Palestinians land and they will live in peace next to their Israeli neighbors. When has it happened? Its only a matter of time before the next kidnapping, the next homicide bomber, the next incursion.
Israel needs to take the Gaza back and never give up the Mountains of Israel.

Charles is are right on
As usual Charles can see through the politics of the Hamas rule and find a solution to stopping some of the aggression on Israel.

Peace will never come to Israel unless the poeple of Palestine love their children more than they hate Israel.

Are you serious? This looks like some made up website baloney. How, for example, did the website get a picture of the rocket man all dressed up before he allegedly landed on his head and was taken captive in Israel?
Furthermore the original shoe bombers name is Richard Reid, not Reed.

Concerns & Questions
I usually find your columns and commentaries right on Charles, but I have some concerns and questions about a few matters in this one:
“Israel's leaders have purposely obscured their war aims in Gaza.” – I see and hear Israel’s leaders stating their war aims clearly – To deny Hamas (or other Islamic jihadists of any other named terrorist group) the ability to continue attacking Israel with rockets or other weapons from the Gaza Strip. Or as you say, your “endgame (B) the disintegrations of Hamas rule in Gaza.”
“Hamas' leadership beg[s] for outside help, receiving in return nothing but words from their Arab and Iranian brothers.” – Do we know for sure that Hamas is not still receiving weapons, ammunition and other essential war-making aid from their Arab and Iranian brothers even as the war is being fought?
“Palestinian Authority, the legitimate government” – Is the Palestinian Authority really the legitimate government since the ill-advised Bush push for an election that Hamas won legitimately or otherwise?

So far
As of this morning, Israel can agree to any cease fire arrangement, but the hamass has so far refused to even consider them. They probably never will, which really only leaves us with option 2. That could very well have the plan from the start.

"1984"
Neverending war. Will someone be so kind as to checkmate? This endgame nonsense is starting to make civilization look like a bad idea.

Excellent, insightful analysis...
...As always, this gentleman has laid bare the facts & the options.

And how will Pres. Bush handle this?
And how will BO handle this?
And how will the new sec'y of state handle this?

All very nerve-wracking & frightening.

Option A might work...
...if Israel holds out for an agreement with serious teeth -- any unprovoked attack from Gaza earns the attacker a devastating response, with the blessing of the enforcers. Thus, one missile fired from Gaza earns at least ten missiles in return. One suicide bomber infiltrating from Gaza earns one village bulldozed to the ground. Maybe, in addition to such tit-for-tat retaliation, each unprovoked attack means Israel can take back possession of, say, 5% of the Gaza strip, forever. Let this be presented as the minimum acceptable package.

Hamas will, of course, never agree to these terms. Certainly not before option B has had plenty of time to come to pass.

......Just a suggestion.

Suicide Rokets
If Hamas agrees to stop shooting rockets into Israel, it won't stop the suicide rockets. Read it at, http://stopthepresses2.blogspot.com/search/label/rocket%20 man
