Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

One of the more familiar sayings in politics is "don't get angry, get even."

The anger caused by using millions in taxpayer bailout money to pay "retention" bonuses to current and former AIG employees and to fund banks that mostly won't tell what they did with the money is an object lesson for all of us. It offers taxpayers an opportunity to "get even" with those who have violated the U.S. Constitution, helped put our nation in peril and spent us into economic servitude to the Chinese.

President Obama has said he is angry, too, but he wants that anger to be "channeled" so that it might do the most good. I agree with the president. But where should that anger be channeled? The president wants to channel it in ways that will create more government regulation of banks. The New York Times reported Sunday that the president "will call for increased oversight of executive pay at all banks, Wall Street firms and possibly other companies as part of a sweeping plan to overhaul financial regulation."

Is that the best way to channel our anger so that it will do the most good? Should Congress and the regulatory authorities, which have failed so spectacularly and at every level (and in both parties), be allowed to manage and repair the financial damage they helped cause? Can they be trusted with even more power to invade private industry, overrule stockholders, and effectively run more and more companies? This is what totalitarian societies do, isn't it? The answer isn't more laws; it's enforcing the laws already on the books. The solution can be found in proper oversight, not in overlooking transgressions.

Those busloads of people who last weekend descended on Connecticut neighborhoods where AIG executives live were in the wrong place. And by the way, who ordered up that little charade and media opportunity? It sounds like something MoveOn.org, or some other left-wing political outfit might do in order to divert attention from the real culprits, who are located a few hundred miles south in Washington, D.C.

Next week, millions of tourists will begin the annual ritual of visiting Washington to see the cherry blossoms bloom. They might wish to organize a bus ride up to Capitol Hill and make their blooming idiot senators and congresspersons feel their wrath. Then they should go home and organize tea parties and anything else that will unite them with others in the fed-up community, and then vow to throw these bums out come the 2010 election.

Their list should include Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA), Speaker Nancy Pelosi and especially Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn). In a brazen example of political bipolarity, Dodd stated contradictory positions in just 24 hours. First, he claimed to have had nothing to do with a bill that sent bailout money to AIG. A day later he said he did, indeed, have plenty to do with the bill, but that he succumbed to pressure from the Treasury Department not to cap bonuses.

No political fish should be too big to touch and goodness knows fish like these have been stinking up Washington for far too long. Showing the most powerful the door is the only way we can liberate the country (and ourselves) from these overpaid, egotistical, self-centered, corrupt, uncaring pack of rats.

Voters should force term limits on these power-hungry, money-grubbing people (I'm talking Congress, not AIG). And by the way, if Congress is successful in prying all or most of our money from the tight-fisted hands of AIG executives, how about a provision that would force every member of Congress who took campaign money from AIG to rebate the taxpayers?

If the public doesn't rise up and stop this political coup of private industry, we will all be the worse for it. While AIG is paying for its real and perceived sins, the company's mistakes should not be a pretext for politicians to accrue more power when they have abused the power they have.

That should make us all angry and we should channel that anger right back at the politicians most responsible and clean House (and Senate) in November 2010.

Cherry Blossoms and Tea Bags
Cal- you are one of the great communicators of our age, thank you.
This is precisely what the American people need to do- rise up, March on Washington and let our voices be heard!
These arrogant elitists need to be booted out of office.
Term Limits.
And as for Chris Dodd and Barney Frank- they need to ne investigated, prosecuted and be sharing a cell with Madoff.
Pelosi is just a crazy witch.
Ground her- take away her plane and let her take up residence with the Marsh Harvest mouse or rat- vermin she believe in.
These people make my skin creep and my blood boil.
Throw ALL the bums out!
And while we are at it- get those shiftledd RINO's out TOO-
Hear me Specter, Snowe, Collins, Graham, et al?
You will be ALL out of there in 2010 and we the people WILL take our country back.
Shame on all of you!

To Alec:
Thanks, Alec, along with Cal, you said it all. But let The Pelosi get back to SF on a jumbo, non-stop broom.

Cal
Those in the federal government know very well that a huge number of Americans are outraged about what they are doing.

They simply don't care! Their arrogance
overrides their sworn duty to represent those who voted them into office.

If we can survive til then, we have to boot out every anti-American who is up for re-election.

Beyond that, my mind considers the necessity for a revolution. If that's the only way to save this great country, we had better have the courage to bring it about...the same courage our ancestors had when they fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

Throw the bas!ards out!
Revolution? I'm so close to ready.... if the non-representing Congress and President Obummer don't hear us after the April 15 Tea Party, they can look for a clock-cleaning at the midterm election, and I'm talking about both parties. My big question is, how do we get started instituting term limits? Obviously Congress isn't going to pass THAT law, so it's up to we, the People.

Cal
great column. Well said, with that said, the only ways we have of revolting are:1- protest in the streets, 2- Vote, 3- Constitutional convention, and 4- Armed revolution. I prefer the first three, but can't rule out four.
Kirk

Be careful
what you wish for Kirk.
A Constitutional Convention could not be held in this era because too many Americans are too
ignorant of what it means to be a Free American citizen. Our original is the best ever written and it just needs good American patriots elected and appointed to uphold it, and American
citizens to hold them to it. That can't happen unless and until the American people turn back to God..that Constitution and our Republic
can only work as one Founder said, for a "moral and religious people" We lost our way spiritually; and to have a Convention where
the people writing it have no concept of
our historic Judeo/Christian heritage would be a bigger disaster than O' and the gangsters running the Congress.

The Movement Has Begun
There are Tea Parties, We Surround Them, Restore the Constitution and many like groups exploding all over this country. My group in PA has already set forth its plan for 2010 to profile all our PA representatives as well as promising candidates, and work to replace the traitors with those who have given us a personal pledge to uphold the Constitution.

We need to operate within the system to effect our revolution, unless of course, the 'system' tries to remove some of our unalienable rights. Then I fear the consequence.
A Patriot

Systemic Failure
Churchill or somebody said that democracy is the very worst form of government--except for all the others!

Is this true? Are "the people" with their "representatives" wise enough not to self-destruct?

Are we heading down the same road Germany took, in the 30s of the previous century? Read Patrick J. Buchanan's article, too!

Americans under surveillance
Hope that no one is Anti-Abortion, a war protester, a Ron Paul supporter, a member of a third party, or a member of the Campaign for Liberty. If you are you may be "on the radar" of the U.S. Government.

Who organized the buses to CT?
ACORN.

What I have said over the last two years
while I was an Independent Presidential candidate was that both parties have become intoxicated on power and totally corrupted by it. They have ignored the Constitution, rule of law, and will of the people. They have engineered the entire election process to assure themselves continued power.

The problem lies in the fact that the elites have duped us into thinking only they can govern and we must vote the lesser of two evils. That has only given us more evil, and there is no different result. Neither party offers a future of freedom for our kids.

Taking up the President's men on their comment that no crisis should go to waste, here's an idea. Get together with family and friends, find someone who is out of work, who has some common sense and love of this great country, form a campaign committee, register as a candidate, and run for congress!

There is no other way we can reclaim the inheritance that the elites have stolen from us! We are the rightful owners of this nation, and if we fail to re-assert our authority and restore Constitutional self government, then we have no one to blame but ourselves. If you have a better idea, let's hear about it. Otherwise, let's get about the task of controlling our future. Thanks, Joe

Charles LPKY
Screw 'em. Let them come after me for standing up for freedom. As Charlton Heston said, "Out of my cold dead hands"!

AIG Anger? H*LL YES!
====

As even now the FBI, SEC, and the British Serious Fraud Office are all investigating AIG for hiding its losses on investments related to IDIOTIC derivatives.

====

I have been saying
since around the time of Clinton that it will take something major to bring this country back. I believe that will be a) A disaster so terrible that it brings the citizens of this country together, like 9/11 squared. 2) A major war. 3) A serious depression or deflation.

I hope none happen, but I believe that one will.

A depression or deflation scares me more than the others. We are not the strong, sturdy people that existed in the 'Thirties. Crime was surprising low during the depression, considering the number of hungry people. Don't count on that next time!

A friend since we were in diapers and a strong democrat told me last night via telephone that he'd just bought a S&W .38 caliber Super and was going to start carrying a gun. He lives in a low crime state. Said he was applying for a concealed weapon permit too. This fellow, with the exception of his politics, is a smart, long-seeing fellow.

Term Limits
Three terms in the House, One term in the Senate, six years total service max., no lifetime pension/healthcare, just go home and get a job. No more dynasties.

Rocketeer
You might want to add: One six term for the president.

That stop 'em spending the first four years campaigning for the next four.

Tell Congress to Stop the spending
Obama and Congress are about to spend our country into bankruptcy.

Americans everywhere simply have to stand up, speak out and tell them to STOP the Spending!

Follow the link below and send a personalized fax to your members of Congress and tell them just that!

http://www.conservativeoutpost.com/campaign/cta/stop_spendi ng

Rocketteer....Sea dog...bingo!
I might add....Rescind the amoral increase that congress gave themselves recently!($$$$)

Mr. Thomas...talks about 'ANGER" who is angry?

Just because I bought 125 high tech weapons, and am brushing up on my karate, learning how to make bombs, and hired 15 ex- navy seals who hate
Obuma, bought a map of the floor plan of the whitehouse(black market ...of course), doesn't
mean Iam angry!!!
Elvis

Alec...ny.
It is pretty hard to fill an agenda that good!
But we can sure think, plan and move!
Elvis

Elvis
It has been said that the most dangerous thing in the world is a Marine with a rifle in his hands. That is true; however, a SEAL is a weapon!

Don't forget
Don't forget to throw out every single one who is coming up for relection in 2010. There really are no good Republicans anymore! Yes the Dems are worst than bad, but true be told, the Republicans are not that much better. Good column, and very good posts!

Maximus
Amen!

Thanks Mr. Thomas
Hitler's Germany started just this way.
1) Get elected
2) Pick some group to demonize -- Jews for Hitler -- AIG for now
3) Go after their neighborhoods and their houses to really scare their families - Hitler Youth for Hitler and ACORN for now

Take over the economy for both of them

This is only after two months in office -- Scary stuff

Hooray Cal!
But I really believe the bonuses were put back into the Porkulus Bill because OBAMA wanted to stage this Dog and Pony Show that is going on right now. It set up his excuse to take over the banking in the USA. This needs to be investigated. I believe under OBAMAS orders that bus was filled with paid and staged protestors. There is no way MOVEON.Soros put the bonuses back in there. This was an inside job. Nixon was nothing compared to this man.

Well said, Cal ---
A clean sweep would be good. I am more and more in favor of term limits as I get older and wiser. I used to agree with the line that a congress with experience was better able to get things done, but I realize that's a bunch of crap. Look at the "leaders" of this pack of hyenas - Dodd, Reid, Pelosi, Frank. They are making a mockery of our Constitution and we are letting them get away with it. The shame is on us.

Nice one Cal, it's about time.
The problem is you included republicans in it, when you didn't have to.
We have a two years dem congress, now a dem prez and total dem congrsssional control with their few needed senate rinos that are always available.
So you have ZERO SAY, mr republican.
Time you started fighting for the right team, instead of giving in and blaming your own side.
That probably is exactly what is holding you back from showing up at the capitol steps with a pitchfork, and MAKE NO MISTAKE, the democrats will use every pathetic admission against you, and will continue to win with it.
Better gird up your loins, every time you open your yap and give equal blame to republicans, you send Old Glory further into gehenna.
Better figure it out quickly mr anger channeller. Better get yer republican head screwed on a bit tighter, my friend.

Woefully Misplaced Anger
While the public is led to channel their anger on $165,000,000 in bonuses, the final resting place of one thousand times that amount is quietly being disclosed. AIG has been given $170 billion so far to flush down the toilet and is making noise for another $40 billion. A major disposition of those funds is the covering of Credit Default Swaps written by AIG to insure against the failure of certain financial instruments. We recently have been informed that perhaps $10 billion of those funds have been paid to Goldman Sachs. The former Treasury Secretary is Henry Paulson, a former Goldman partner. The man placed by Paulson to oversee the disposition of TARP funds by AIG is a former Goldman employee and “right hand man” of Paulson. The man appointed to replace the Paulson deposed CEO of AIG is a former Goldman partner. While Goldman makes current noises about repaying the TARP money they received directly from the Treasury’s Paulson, they have received billions of dollars of payments from an otherwise bankrupt AIG.
We recently learned that perhaps $40 billion of AIG funds have been paid to foreign banks to cover CDS they hold. Does it occur to anyone that the United States is being raped by the international banking community who cry “systemic risk?” Just how many hundreds of billions of dollars of ransom will be paid these financial terrorists before our leadership wakes up? NEVER VOTE FOR AN INCUMBENT!

Bravo, Mr. Thomas
I will be taking my children to the local tea party on April 15. In the meantime, praying for revival and reformation. An immoral, ungodly people can't take this country back.

The Criminal Democrats
C

The Criminal Democrats
C-SPAN has been advertising a program about Sen. Ted Stevens problems and his trial. i have no love for Stevens. He has used his seat in the senate for personal gain and should be punished.

The hypocrisy of the justice system which would prosecute him in his advanced age because he is a Republican,is shameful. Had he been a Democrat,he would likely be chairing a committee in congress.

That he is out and criminals such as Chris Dodd,Harry Reid,Ted Kennedy,Barbara Boxer,in the senate and Pelosi,Frank, etc.,is a crime in itself. They make Ted Stevens look like a schoolboy.

Rowly
Be careful whom you call criminals.

We have laws that define criminality. Let's hope for all of our sakes that justice is dealt
within the law, not outside of it.

Mr. Thomas
John Adams once said "I must be rendered odious
so that they can win their election."

TownHallers spend a huge amount of time rendering Obama odius for the sake of their
own personal gain, whether it is financial or
otherwise. Such tactics are odious in themselves.

congressional criminals
Laws that define criminality? Are the acts of the House, Senate, Fed, in promoting/ pressuring the private sector with the result of the current economic crisis, separate from the actions of the private sector? I see criminality in the government actions. How, exactly, am I wrong?

Too big to fail
The question noone seems to be asking is how many "too big to fail" companies are all over and out there on every wall street there is.
It seems to me that AIG is an example of a near empty shell - and if you watched Geithner's testimony, we are supposed to believe that the total loss derivatives crew company (the ones who guarded their bonuses in contract before their burning ship went down) - has a bunch of TRIPLE A + financial equities that the government can, with taxpayers money at half, and private investment the other half, buy up with 7X leverage, and have an absolute near perfect chance of getting all the money back and maybe making some.
The question is, if that were true, why would AIG need the government to do it ?
Yes, it was quite a fancy circus, timmy yappering out how the burning ship crew of AIG secured their massive bonuses as their worthless derivatives crumbled and they told themselves our creditors are coming after us - and NOW- after mor3e emltdown, timmy is buying triple A+ rated stuff from the burned out shell of AIG at the bottom of davey jones locker.
It's no wonder the financial criminal wizards whipped up new and untenable instruments that they could all suck a few hundredths in fees from everytime they traded and swapped and finagled them around in one giant 300 trillion dollar SUCKING SOUND.
The truth is they just leeched what little value there was after the loan company got their cut for making the loan, and another cut for bundling and selling, and the rating agency took their bit, and the brokers took their chunk - and the derivativers kept raking their cut off - DEATH BY A THOUSAND CUTS -
There is NOTHING there. No there there, my friends - and the hope now is THAT THE ILLuSION OF VALUE CAN BE KEPT ALIVE....

Allow me to help, ty Grover Norquist
In 2007 the dems installed in congress and the dow began to slide - because everyone knew that the Bush tax cuts were then set in stone to expire in two years, becuase the dems would not extend them.
Now just imagine if the THEIFS in Congress now did one simple thing - WROTE A BILL THAT MADE THE TAX CUTS ON DIVIDENDS AND CAPITAL GAINS PERMANENT.
We'd have one heckuva jumpstart from that alone - they have all been planning on their expiration, sullenly counting and trying to include the tax losses in their books... and that immediate reversal would free up a lot of dough and pick up the spirits of the market and the investors.
Have you seen the evil dems do that ?
NO.
They have done something worse- THEY HAVE GUARANTEED MASSIVE TAXING in the years to come - and now they HATE wall street bonuses (or so they posture) - still who wants to be dragged in front of a bunch of vile hypocritical scribes and falsities on their holier than thou lib screed, and still you have to jam millions of dollars in their pockets after their public superiority lying display.
I could care less if they die, in fact I hope they do. Really, it would be great.
