New York City is a lot of things, but it's long been one of the best examples of just how little gun control laws do with regard to reducing the violent crime rate. After all, before the Bruen decision upended the gun permitting scheme that existed for a century, the city had gone up and down with crime rates.
When the decision was handed down, though, every anti-gunner screamed that violent crime would skyrocket. It wouldn't matter what laws were enacted, of course, because they couldn't deny carry permits for subjective reasons.
How has that worked out a few years later?
Well, terribly for New York City. Their homicide rates are setting records.
Of course, those records are all for a lack of murders, so...

New York City has tied its record for the longest stretch without a homicide in recorded history.
The city went 12 calendar days -- Nov. 25 to Dec. 7 -- without a homicide, according to New York Police Department data.
...
During the first 11 months of the year, New York City saw its lowest number of shooting incidents (652) and shooting victims (812) in recorded history, according to NYPD data.
For the month of November, murders were also at the lowest level ever, with 16 murders, tying the previous record set in 2018.
Some might try to argue that New York City's success this year is because of the carry-killer law signed by Gov. Kathy Hochul in the aftermath of the Bruen decision, but that doesn't really hold water. After all, the homicide rate is down across the board. Even the anti-gun Gun Violence Archive is showing a reduction in violence that echoes pre-pandemic levels.
They don't want to, I'm sure, but there's only so much data manipulation you can get away with before any hope you have for credibility is shredded.
Now, I'm not going to say that the Bruen decision is the reason for the continued drop in so-called gun violence in the years since the Supreme Court ended "may issue" concealed carry permitting schemes across the nation. It seems probable, but correlation isn't causation, and without a lot more research and data analysis that's well beyond my capability, I can't honestly say that it is.
What I can do, though, is point out that despite all of the hysteria peddled by anti-gun groups like Everytown, Giffords, and Brady, the "streets will run red with blood" predications never came to fruition, as per usual.
They say this with every pro-gun law or decision, and then it never comes to pass. It never works out that way, and when a city like New York suddenly starts setting records for a lack of murders, that never gets considered within the reports.
Funny, that.
I can't say that it's surprising, though. This is just how it goes with the people who shill for gun control.
It shows that it's not about public safety, no matter how much they claim otherwise. It's about infringing on your Second Amendment rights just for the sake of infringing on them.
Not that most of you are unaware of this fact.
