Bill De Blasio Is A Big Headed Hypocrite On The Gender Pay Gap

Yesterday, after the U.S. Women's soccer team won the 2019 FIFA World Cup, comrade Bill De Blasio triumphantly tweeted, "These women are American heroes. They deserve our respect, our admiration, and Equal Pay Now!" Despite having more than 162,000 followers on the social media site, his tweet only racked up 44 retweets and 275 likes. Perhaps his "clout" was so low because those who pay attention to the New York City mayor and 2020 Democratic presidential candidate know that he is a big headed hypocrite when it comes to the gender pay gap in his own office. A new investigation from the New York Post reveals that "hizzoner" pays women 81 cents for every dollar earned by the men.

Julia Marsh reports that "Although women make up half of City Hall’s 10 highest earners, the men — including Hizzoner — hold four of the five best-paying jobs, with annual salaries that range from $258,000 to $403,000, records show. As a result, the males rake in an average of $58,400 a year more than their female colleagues..."

To make matters worse, the rampant income inequality amongst the sexes was due in large part because De Blasio's office decided to pay "Chancellor Richard Carranza and incoming NYCHA Chairman Greg Russ, both of whom replaced women," far more than their predecessors.

For example, Marsh notes that "Carranza — under fire for his diversity initiatives and suspected cronyism — is paid $345,000, his predecessor Carmen Farina’s salary was $266,000."

Likewise, "Russ’ $403,000 salary — partly funded with $162,000 in federal money — is 75 percent more than the $231,000 paid to Shola Olatoye, who resigned amid a lead-paint scandal."

De Blasio's office defended the disparities by telling the NYP, " Under this mayor, more women have a seat at the table than ever before. Over half of our senior leadership positions are held by women and that diversity of thought is apparent in all that we do to improve the lives of New Yorkers."

Perhaps De Blasio can find the time to fix his big gender pay gap when he stops palling around with Big Bird and stops tweeting virtue signaling posts about women's soccer.
