On Tuesday, an Indiana grand jury indicted an illegal alien for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute as well as illegal possession of a firearm, reports The Journal Gazzette.

Ivan Jaimes-Molina, 23, was stopped by local police in DeKalb County, IN for a routine traffic speeding stop on November 29. However, things took a turn when drug dogs alerted authorities that narcotics may be in his vehicle. Sgt. Todd McCormick of the DeKalb County sheriff's office searched his car and found “two round objects that were heavily covered in plastic wrap" located in the trunk.

“It’s just tools, boss,” the illegal alien allegedly told cops as they inspected it further. Police discovered the packages were nearly one pound of marijuana as well as one pound of methamphetamine.

Police officers found a Sig Sauer 9938 9 mm handgun and a digital scale, likely to be used for measurement of the drugs. Jaimes-Molina presented the deputy on scene a supposed Florida license. But, he then lunged at Sgt. McCormick and sprinted off, evading arrest. McCormick attempted to stab Jaimes-Molina with a knife, but was unsuccessful. A few hours later, police found the man hiding in a barn after reports of a strange man hitchhiking down the highway led them to his location.

This federal arrest comes as a recent Department of Justice report on foreign born individuals in the U.S. federal prison show an alarmingly high number of illegal immigrants in federal jails. As Katiereported Thursday, “one-in-five individuals were born outside of the U.S. and a significant number are illegal aliens.” Adding “Illegal alien incarceration costs American taxpayers nearly $2 billion each year.”

Nobody was hurt during his arrest. He is scheduled to be arraigned Jan. 3.
