Help a 9 Year Old Cancer Patient Celebrate Christmas One Last Time

Jacob Thompson, like most kids who celebrate the holiday, loves Christmas. But, the 9 year old boy from Maine most likely will not be able to celebrate with his family in December this year. Jacob is dying from Stage 4 High Risk Neuroblastoma.

Doctors at Barbara Bush Children’s hospital in Portland, Maine have told his family that he will probably die within the month. Still, these life threatening circumstances will not stop Jacob from celebrating with his loved ones one last time. His family is celebrating the holiday next weekend, according WCB5.

“Since Jacob is bed-ridden and has limited time left with his loved ones, they are bringing Christmas to him next weekend.

On the big day, his room will transform into a winter wonderland — snow, sparkling tree and all (even Santa). But Jacob has one request: cards from anyone "inspired to reach out" to help bring the Christmas cheer.”

“Jacob loves the holiday season,”  His mother said, “and we want him to know that Christmas wishes come true and that there are good people who care all around the world.”

To help show Jacob the love around the world that Christmas inspires, his family is asking that those who can send Christmas cards wishing Jacob a Merry Christmas.

His family is also humbly asking for assistance in providing funds for his funeral. Treatment and care for this type of cancer, plus the added costs of funeral arrangements, are extremely expensive.

His family wrote on a GoFund me page:

CANCER CHRISTMAS

“Today Roger and I went to start making prearrangements for Jacob’s funeral, and were sticker shocked. No one thinks about having to do this type of planning for their child and because of that we did nor do not have life insurance on him. We are asking for some assistance from family and friends to help support this.

We we understand everyone lives on a budget and if you can not donate the best way to help (other than prayers) is to pass this along on your Facebook or other social media. Jacob has touched the lives of so many, he as well his father and myself appreciate your continued support, love, and well wishes”

The Thompson family is close to their goal of $75k, having raised $68,381 as of press time.

If you would like to send a card to Jacob, please send it to:
