Health Care Reform Must Be Done Right

It seems that President Obama and the Democratic majority in Congress will stop at nothing to pass their health care bill, regardless of the overwhelming opposition to it by the American people. And we're seeing that desperation manifest itself through the use of slick and sly legislative procedures and voting tactics.

According to the Washington Post:

“After laying the groundwork for a decisive vote this week on the Senate's health-care bill, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi suggested Monday that she might attempt to pass the measure without having members vote on it.

“Instead, Pelosi (D-Calif.) would rely on a procedural sleight of hand: The House would vote on a more popular package of fixes to the Senate bill; under the House rule for that vote, passage would signify that lawmakers "deem" the health-care bill to be passed.”

Speaker Pelosi and House Democrats need to listen to what the majority of Americans want instead of trying to jump through hoops to avoid a vote. If the House is unable to pass the bill by voting in a Constitutional manner, then this bill should be dropped, and we should start over. The answer is not found in continually trying to find new voting tactics to force Congress' will on the American people. After all, the government answers to the people, not the other way around.
