Cue The Eye Rolls: MSNBC Panel Knows Why Trump Impeachment Polling Hasn’t Moved

There are times where you don’t know whether to laugh, cry, or wonder if they’re just dense or abjectly stupid, but MSNBC really wallows in an alternate reality. I mean this has always been the case, but like a cocaine habit—it’s become worse since 2016.  Everyone here has lost his or her mind. Host Rachel Maddow spews conspiratorial trash, as does Joy Reid. It’s InfoWars, but delivered in a calm and commanding demeanor as to suggest there’s truth to these left-wing lies. The network has long served its purpose of keeping liberal America’s blood pressures low and nothing could serve as a better example of that than this panel, where Chris Matthews suggests that the reason why support for Trump’s impeachment hasn’t moved is due to Fox News' existence (via NewsBusters):

For the liberal national media, an unofficial part of any job title must include attacking Fox News in an either occasional or permanent capacity for all that ills America. The task fell to MSNBC’s Stephanie Ruhle and Chris Matthews on Tuesday afternoon as the pair blamed FNC for the lack of overwhelming public support for impeaching and removing President Trump from office.

[…]

Instead of looking inward, Ruhle replied that “what is new is the way news is consumed” before fretting that “[t]he poll numbers aren’t changing and we can say, ‘hasn’t anybody watched these impeachment hearings over the last two weeks?’”

Right on cue, Matthews interjected: “Well, there was no Fox back then. There was no Fox.”

[…]

“I think you need a medium to fight your case. And the Republican right-wingers found one, it’s called Fox. It’s smart, they got one. Roger Ailes gave it to them,” Matthews added.

As the segment wound down, Ruhle wondered: “Would Richard Nixon have had a different outcome had Fox News existed?”

Okay, well, Nixon committed a crime. Bill Clinton committed a crime. And Nixon had zero GOP support by the time he resigned, as many members of his party felt that he had misled them. There was that Goldwater moment and the rest is history. Trump is not Nixon. President Trump has committed no crime other than beating Hillary Clinton in 2016. That’s it. House Democrats are trying to remove a president for merely making a phone call to the Ukrainians. Were there parts where he may have acted inappropriately? Maybe—but that’s not impeachable. Trump supposedly threatened to withhold aid unless the Ukrainians opened an investigation into Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, and his job at Burisma.

This impeachment circus that has engulfed the Hill is solely for the purpose of keeping the Democratic base from abandoning the party in 2020. They promised impeachment if they retook the House and even if the charges are shoddy, which they are, Democrats have to do this. Progressives would start shooting inside the ship. The Democrats also recently announced that they were going to pass the Trump-backed United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement (USMCA), which has languished in legislative hell for months. It’s the renegotiated trade agreement that Trump promised on the campaign trail. So, we’re going to impeach the president but also pass a piece of trade legislation that part of the cornerstone of his administration. That’s how you know impeachment is about the base—not the Constitution, the country, or the rule of law. It’s a total joke—the voters see right through this, especially in the swing states. Impeachment is not popular here at all—and they’re key states for Democrats to retake in 2020. Since this circus came to town, Trump has improved in the polls in these key states, like Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where Trump now beats anyone in the so-called top-tier of the 2020 Democratic candidate crop.

Democrats started this impeachment push on shoddy allegations, even shakier than the ones relating to the Russian collusion myth. It was secretive and in the bunker, with only selective transcripts being released that—shocker—only backed up the Left’s narrative for impeachment. The hearings that the House Intelligence Committee had under high chancellor Adam Schiff were nothing burgers. There’s no smoking gun. And given the Democrats’ utter miserable demeanor since 2016, everyone sees this as a partisan clown show. That’s why this hasn’t moved. Oh, and these voters may not like his rhetoric, but they sure like Trump’s economic policies. With nothing but hurt feelings, anger, and frustration at Trump—there’s no way 67 senators vote to remove him. In the end, this will be the biggest in-kind contribution to the Trump re-elect from Democrats.
