FBI to Trump-Ukraine Whistleblower: We Want to Talk to You

AP Photo/Jeffrey McWhorter

House Republicans want to know the identity of the Trump-Ukraine whistleblower. President Trump does so as well. House Democrats are doing everything they can to protect this person, even tossing out trash legal arguments that it’s illegal to out the whistleblower. That’s not true. A congressional hearing isn’t a courtroom and there is nothing in existing law relating to whistleblower protections that affords anonymity. Yes, there are matters in such laws concerning anonymity and safety, but only in a courtroom setting. Yes, if Trump or anyone on the House Intelligence Committee knew this person’s name, they could out him. It’s not illegal.

The Hill had become engulfed with impeachment fever when this whistleblower alleged in a complaint that President Trump threatened to withhold military aid unless Ukraine opened a corruption investigation into Hunter Biden’s position at Burisma, an energy company, despite having zero experience with this line of work. None of the witnesses have said that they have direct evidence of this so-called quid pro quo allegation. There’s been a lot of presumptions—that’s not evidence.

While this is going on, there is another party that wants to speak with the so-called whistleblower: The Federal Bureau of Investigation…allegedly (via NBC News):

The FBI has asked to interview the CIA whistleblower whose complaint touched off the Ukraine impeachment investigation, a source directly familiar with the matter told NBC News.

The whistleblower has not yet agreed to an interview, the source said.

A law enforcement source said the FBI is not investigating the whistleblower — the bureau wants to talk to him.

The outreach to the whistleblower was approved by the FBI’s Washington field office, and neither Attorney General William Barr nor those in his orbit at the Justice Department were made aware until media reports surfaced on Wednesday, according to another source familiar with the matter.

The FBI request was first reported by Yahoo News, which said that some FBI officials were disturbed that the Justice Department declined to investigate the whistleblower's complaint after a criminal referral was sent over from the inspector general of the Intelligence Community.

Yeah, take this with a grain of salt; we all have seen where how these stories have blown up due to the anonymous sources being dead wrong. The whistleblower is reportedly a CIA agent and a registered Democrat. This person also had worked with a 2020 Democratic candidate. On top of that, the whistleblower contacted Rep. Adam Schiff’s (D-CA) staff and knew the contents of the complaint before it was filed. Schiff knows this person. He’s the chair of the House Intelligence Committee that’s leading off this circus. So, while the FBI wants to talk to this guy, everyone else can see the partisan stink from this complaint, this charge, and this political freakshow manufactured by Democrats in an effort to undo the results of the 2016 election.
