This Is Why Ocasio-Cortez Decided To Run Away From Social Media

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) is a fighter. She takes no crap from anyone. She takes it and she dishes it. She’s the Democrat’s’ version of Trump. And like Trump, she will go after members of her own party to make her point, though those points tend to be centered on the Green New Deal, which is economic death, and defending alleged anti-Semites on the Hill. Yeah, looking at you Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who recently accused supporters of Israel of exhibiting dual loyalty and described the 9/11 attacks as an event where “some people did something.”

Both deserve brutal and swift condemnation. Omar deserves to be relegated to political purgatory for her idiocy. And in the era of social media, these actions provide endless fodder for us to attack liberals and their stupid positions. Perhaps that’s why AOC has decided to quit Facebook. Yeah, she’s waving the white flag of surrender on the platform that birthed her career in public life (via WaPo):

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whose mastery of social media has helped drive the national conversation and shed light on the inner workings of congressional power, has given up on the most popular social network in the world.

In an interview Sunday with the Yahoo News podcast “Skullduggery,” the New York Democrat said she stopped using her Facebook account and was scaling back on all social media, which she described as a “public health risk” because it can lead to “increased isolation, depression, anxiety, addiction, escapism.”

Ocasio-Cortez, 29, who burst onto the national stage after defeating a high-ranking incumbent, said her departure from Facebook was a “big deal” because the platform had been crucial to her campaign. She still has accounts on the site, she said, and according to the company’s ad library, her official Facebook account has dozens of active advertisements sponsored by Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for Congress. Among the ads are calls to support her signature Green New Deal, and fundraising pleas to support progressive legislation and to counteract a super PAC aligned against her.

Why did she leave? I mean I just don’t buy the “public health risk” reason. This is why she’s a congresswoman. This is why she’s popular with the unhinged minions that is the progressive Left. This is why almost three-fourths of Democrats would vote for her if she were eligible to run for president. Her levels of engagement would be nowhere without social media. Maybe AOC figured that she’s tapped out on this front. That she already has the liberal media doing her advocacy work, so she doesn’t need to pick fights on Twitter and post on Instagram. I’ll believe it when I see it. She craves conflict and that is mostly fought on the landscape of social media. Donald Trump knows that as well. There’s a lull period now, but by 2020—this slice of the tech field will be a bloodbath again. I think she’ll come back.
