2020 Election: Maybe This Is Why Hillary Clinton Thinks She Has Another Shot At The Democratic Nomination

When it comes down to any contest, you size up the competition. So, given all of the negatives Hillary Clinton has right now, why is she possibly thinking about running again? Yes, Democrats like her, but I think if you were to ask a follow-up question concerning her running for president…again, the poll numbers would not be stellar. The progressive base of the Democratic Party, which isn’t small, wants her gone. A lot of the big wigs want a fresh start as well.

Hillary comes off as inauthentic, not trustworthy, and someone who plays by their own rules. Worse, the Clintons come off as a couple that thinks the rules don’t apply to them. As many have noted during the 2016 election, all of these criticisms from their days in the White House, and on the campaign trail, were resurrected by the email fiasco Hillary failed miserably to downplay. Rural voters probably won’t listen to her either, and if she tries, the issue of trust comes into play. No one outside of the Acela Corridor seems to think she’s playing with a full deck. These are the same areas that voted against her and made Donald Trump our president.

Well, maybe it’s because the 2020 field sucks. I mean, it’s God-awful. And when Democratic voters were given names that the liberal media thinks are up-and-coming progressives, the answer for most surveyed is the same: “none of the above.”

Via The Hill [emphasis mine]:

With the 2018 midterms in the rearview mirror, several Democrats are gearing up for the 2020 presidential contest. But so far, no Democrat has attracted broad support from the party's base, according to a new Hill.TV American Barometer poll.

The survey, conducted among 680 registered voters who identified themselves as Democrats or independents, found that "none of the above" was the most popular choice among potential 2020 challengers to President Trump.

Thirty percent of the sample said they would prefer that "none of the above"become the Democratic nominee when asked to choose among former Vice President Joe Biden, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D), Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders (I), New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (D), California Sen. Kamala Harris (D), former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Twenty-five percent of respondents said Biden would be their preferred nominee.Sanders, who ran in the Democratic presidential primary in 2016, came in second with 18 percent.

Twelve percent of the independents and Democrats surveyed picked Clinton, Sanders's one-time presidential rival, who signaled a willingness to run again, saying in an October interviewer that she would still "like to be president."

Other candidates attracted even less support. Harris, Bloomberg and Warren were each the top choice for just 4 percent of respondents.

There’s a vacuum here. Biden is also a two-time loser in presidential races, but Hillary managed to clinch the nomination. She has a national constituency. She has the money. She has the connections, and she has the name recognition. Sanders and Biden might have that as well. Everyone else is hemmed in by geography; like no one knows who Cory Booker is if you’re not from Jersey. And even then, some folks might not know who the hell she is. Yet, like an opening drive in football, Clinton’s run will get stuffed because no one will like her, no one will trust her, and if she thinks she can run on girl power again, she’s sadly mistaken. And don’t even think about weaponizing Me Too. You’re married to a credibly accused rapist. The enthusiasm will be dampened if she runs and wins the nomination again, especially in key counties where she already struggled to drive up turnout (i.e., Wayne County, Michigan). So, while the field is open, and she has the weapons to run again, she’ll lose. And that has to drive Democrats crazy. Their best person is also someone who will probably lose a third time…and against Donald Trump again.
