Oh, The View is really getting into the entertainment business with this segment. They were commenting on the recent protests in Iran. Scores of people have recently taken to the streets, voicing their frustration over the economic state of the country, specifically the inflation, and the current hardline regime. Somehow, this show’s panel, save for Meghan McCain and Ana Navarro, went off on a tangent where they argued that the U.S., like Iran, is one step away from stoning gay people in the streets. Co-host Joy Behar took her usual jabs at the president, saying he couldn’t stay off Twitter to comment on the situation, which Navarro said that’s something the president should have done. Trump said that the U.S. is watching these protests. Navarro hoped that the Iranians could free themselves of the Islamic Republic that has strangled civil rights in the country since the Carter administration, which Behar used again to slip in a swipe at Trump, saying he’s leading the country down the path of authoritarianism. McCain pushed back on this nonsense and rightfully so, but the insanity persisted. Kristine Marsh of Newsbusters has the rundown:
Navarro brought the conversation back to the protests.
“To me right now we really have to keep our focus on Iran because if somehow they're able to get themselves free from these chains that bind them from this autocratic regime, it would be a huge game changer the world over,” she stated, before Behar more forcefully pitched her idea that Trump was leading the U.S. into a freedom-less dictatorship:
“I think that's true in this country also, if we can get away from him [Trump],” Behar snarked, to audience approval.
After host Sunny Hostin praised the protests and images of Iranian women removing their hijabs as “so powerful,” McCain tried to address Behar’s anti-Trump arguments:
“I just think having any kind of conversation about moral relativism in a country where we couldn't be sitting here without our heads covered, where gay people are literally murdered and stoned to death in the same streets and comparing it somehow to what's going on in the United States of America, for me when we have these conversations comparing the United States to Iran, that's where I end conversations and where I just leave because it’s ridiculous,” she gushed.
But Behar tried to walk back her comparison. “We're not comparing it--” she began before McCain cut her off.
“You just said we need to rise up against Trump in the same way like Ayatollah Khomeini is somehow morally relative to President Trump. I think that's crazy,” McCain stated.
"It's not apples and apples. It’s not equal. But we're on a very slippery slope in this country towards throwing democracy out of the window every single day,” Behar gushed.
Navarro chimed in with agreement that Trump’s relationship with the press was a threat to democracy, a favorite talking point by the media.
“We have to defend the press and civil rights here,” Navarro began.
“We do, but we don't stone people in the street for being gay,” McCain stated the obvious.
“Not yet,” Whoopi chimed in. “Not yet,” she repeated as McCain scoffed.

Okay—let’s cut the nonsense. Seriously. Yes, America is not immune to such tendencies, but there is zero evidence that there’s some surreptitious authoritarian plot to take over the U.S. government from the Trump administration. We’re not Iran. We have a Constitution with a Bill of Rights, we have three branches of government, and all of this, along with checks and balances, prevents the rise of a government that we see in Iran, Belarus, and North Korea. We have elections for God’s sake. Remember that Joy; your gal just couldn’t win. Period. She could have. It was a winnable election. One of the easiest the Democrats could have hoped for and you guys blew it. And guess what—in 2020, you can vote Donald Trump out of office.
If you don’t like a leader or representative, you can vote him out. In the meantime, the liberals on that show need to take a chill pill (or a valium) and slow their roll about the whole ‘we’re like Iran and we’re on the verge of stoning gays.’ That’s pure crap—and you all know it.
The people of Iran are finally acting against the brutal and corrupt Iranian regime. All of the money that President Obama so foolishly gave them went into terrorism and into their “pockets.” The people have little food, big inflation and no human rights. The U.S. is watching!
