Rural Voters to CNN: You Forgot About Us Deplorables Here In The Midwest

Well, the national media is focused on Russia again. Special Counsel Robert Mueller has impaneled a grand jury to review evidence relating to the probe into alleged collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign. Also, President Trump’s approval ratings have sunk below 40 percent. Cue the death of the presidency commentaries. Well, outside of the D.C. beltway and the urban bastions of the professional Left, Donald Trump is making America great again. He’s laying down the foundations for a successful future. And the fact that he’s president is good enough for these people. It means that their voices were finally heard.

CNN isn’t the most beloved network by conservatives specially Trump supporters, but they did venture into the heart of Trump country—David City, Nebraska, to speak with voters who were more than willing to express their support for the president. Bob Hilger, a farmer, thinks that what Trump has accomplished has been “tremendous.” He rents some of his land for the development of the Keystone XL pipeline. Even with the trip ups over health care and the drama with his now ex-communications director Anthony Scaramucci, support for Trump hasn’t fallen.

"I didn’t think that he would meet with as much resistance from people who refuse to acknowledge that he’s the President of the United States,” said Hilger. “He’s being obstructed in every way they possible can.”

“People have got to have jobs, so they feel comfortable. And then when they know the military is strong, they feel safe. They just want to make sure they have a paycheck, and that nobody is threatening their life. That’s what most people are concerned about,” he added.

Then, there’s Larry and Ann Sabata, who had a son that served in Iraq, who blame the Russia investigation and other distractions for the slow progress in enacting Trump’s agenda.

“If they just let him be a president, if the media would leave him alone, if they come together—it would be ok but he always has to sidestep something,” said Ann.

“It’s rough for him,” said Larry. “He’s got to get everybody together. He’s got to get the Republicans back onboard, as well as the Democrats, and all this other small, diddily stuff, I’ll call it—Russia. The American people want to see results already.”

Yet, the network added that the fact that Trump is president, and that their voice was finally heard is a result that’s deeply satisfying.

“Nobody took that guy serious, well, they forgot about us deplorables here in the Midwest. They totally forgot about us,” said Larry.
