MSNBC Guest: The Word 'Trump' Is 'The Modern Day Swastika'

Okay—so over the weekend there was a bomb hurled at a mosque in the Minneapolis suburbs. Gov. Mark Dayton has described it as a terror attack:

The Dar Al-Farooq Islamic Center in suburban Minneapolis, like other U.S. mosques, occasionally receives threatening calls and emails. Its leaders say they're more frightened now after an explosive shattered windows and damaged a room as worshippers prepared for morning prayers.

No one was hurt in the blast, which happened around 5 a.m. Saturday. Windows of the imam's office were shattered, either by what the FBI called an "improvised explosive device" or by an object thrown through them. The FBI is seeking suspects and trying to determine whether the incident was a hate crime.

Gov. Mark Dayton joined other public officials and community leaders for a meeting inside the building Sunday, describing the bombing as "so wretched" and "not Minnesota."

"This is an act of terrorism. This is against the law in America," Dayton said at a news conference afterward, the Star Tribune reported.

We’ve all heard the absurd left wing commentaries against President Trump and Republicans. This incident didn’t stem the tide of those commentaries. Now, the word “Trump” is the “modern day swastika.” That’s what Daily Beast columnist Dean Obeidallah said to MSNBC’s Ali Velshi Monday.

“We’ve had the word ‘Trump’ painted on mosques in New Jersey, Iowa, and New York. For some, the word ‘Trump’ is becoming a modern day swastika,” he said.

He also spoke about the five acts of arson at mosques across the country since January.

There are terrible people out there. That is beyond dispute, but “Trump” is the new swastika? Please—let’s cool it with the hyperbole, especially from a man who doesn’t think radical Islam exists.
