Bioethics Professor: 'Why We Must Ration Health Care'

Professor of bioethics Peter Singer's recent NYT Magazine column did a tremendous service by admitting what we already know -- liberals believe that some lives are more valuable than others.

In his appropriately titled column, 'Why We Must Ration Health Care,' Singer writes,

"The death of a teenager is a greater tragedy than the death of an 85-year-old, and this should be reflected in our priorities."

... In other words, if you are old and in need of an operation, it may not be a good investment for our society to spend all that money treating you.  After all, statistically speaking, you're just going to die in ten years, anyway. 

And -- so the theory goes -- the money and effort would be better directed toward a younger/fitter citizen who can contribute more to society...
