The problem with Zengerle's hypothesis is that the NC GOP never said they were running the ads to help McCain.  The stated reason for  the ad is to tie NC Democratic gubernatorial candidates, Bev Purdue and Richard Moore, to Barack Obama.  These Democrats endorsed him -- and based on the Rev. Wright stuff -- he is obviously out-of-touch with most North Carolinians.
