Here's Why One Republican Rep Wants Members of Congress to Skip the RNC

Saturday night, former President Donald Trump survived an assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania, which Townhall covered.

The bullet hit the president’s ear, he confirmed on Truth Social. This occurred days before the Republican National Convention (RNC).

On Sunday, Republican Rep. Tim Burchett (TN) called for Republican members of Congress to skip RNC and immediately start hearings about the attempted assassination on Trump.

Burchett appeared in an interview on Fox News’ “America Reports” where he said that “we are on the verge of losing everything we hold precious and dear to our nation.”

“We need to get to Washington, to hell with the convention,” Burchett said. “We’ve got to find out what went on, make sure that it never happens again.”

“God had his hand on Donald J. Trump at that point, and I pray that the president realizes that, because that was just a miracle of God that he was not shot,” he said.

“This was a complete and total failure. To Hell with the rules, we need to get everyone to Washington immediately to find out what happened and make sure it never happens again,” he posted on X. “Accountability starts at the top.”

“Screw the convention, screw the rules, let's do this asap,” Burchett added.

This year’s RNC is being held in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Over the weekend, Trump shared on Truth Social that he would be there.
