Nancy Pelosi in 2008: ‘We Certainly Don’t Want Any More [Illegal Immigrants] Coming In’

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi sounded far different in 2008 on immigration than she does now.

Discussing border security during a press conference, Pelosi told reporters the issue of undocumented people in America needed to be addressed as well.

“Securing the border is the first principle that we all have when we talk about the immigration issue,” she said. “While we need to address the issue of immigration and the challenge we have of undocumented people in our country, we certainly don’t want any more coming in.”

The Speaker continued: “There’s no question that we support some of the alt — secure our border, enforce our law, protect our workers, address the issue of undocumented people in our country and their families.”

As of 2019, however, Pelosi is going so far as to direct illegal immigrants on how to avoid being arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“An ICE deportation warrant is not the same as a search warrant,” Pelosi said at a press conference earlier this month. “If that is the only document ICE brings to a home raid, agents do not have the legal right to enter a home. If ICE agents don’t have a warrant signed by a judge, a person may refuse to open the door and let them in.”

Pelosi made the comments after it was reported that ICE would begin nationwide raids targeting at least 2,000 illegal immigrants who had been given deportation orders.

“I’m going to appeal to people of faith, faith-based organizations, to appeal to the president. I think that they put him in office and they have a better voice for that,” she said of her efforts to get the president to call off the operation.

Pelosi also said she told President Trump “a violation of status is not a reason for deportation.”
