Texas Billboards Declare 'Abortion Is Freedom'

In response to a small east Texas city banning abortion and declaring itself a “sanctuary city for the unborn,” abortion activists put up billboards telling pregnant women the only way they can be free is to have an abortion.

“Abortion is freedom,” declare the billboards, which direct women to a website that lists clinics in Texas and answers frequently asked questions about the procedure that ends an unborn baby’s life.

According to The Houston Chronicle, the billboards were funded by NARAL Pro-Choice Texas and the Lilith Fund for Reproductive Equity.

“The Waskom City Council pulled a dangerous political stunt that was deliberately designed to shame and confuse patients seeking abortion care, and to intimidate abortion funds and advocacy organizations like ours,” said Amanda Beatriz Williams, executive director of the Lilith Fund.

The city council ordinance says court rulings and laws allowing abortion are “unconstitutional usurpations of judicial power, which violate both the Tenth Amendment the Republican Form of Government Clause, and are null and void in the City of Waskom.”

Speaking to KTAL about the move to ban abortion in Waskom, Mark Lee Dickson, director of the Right to Life with East Texas, said cities and unborn children must be protected.

“We decided to take things into our own hands, and we’ve got to do something to protect our cities and to protect the unborn children,” he said.
