Attorney Michael Avenatti may not be taking on President Trump in the 2020 election but he will now be helping represent the woman who protested the president in one of the most bizarre ways we’ve seen in recent memory.
“I am pleased to announce that I have joined the legal team defending activist Therese 'Patricia' Okoumou at her request,” Avenatti said in a statement.
Okoumou, as you recall, is the woman who scaled the State of Liberty over the president’s immigration policies. The standoff with law enforcement officers forced the evacuation of Liberty Island on the Fourth of July, one of their busiest days of the year.
Avenatti said he will be helping lead attorneys Ron Kuby and Rhiya Trivedi in representing her.
“Patricia and I are both passionate advocates of mothers, fathers and children separated at our southern border as a result of the draconian policies of Donald Trump and his cronies,” his statement continued. “I look forward to assisting in her defense and cause.”

Okoumou faces three misdemeanor charges, including disorderly conduct, trespassing, and interference with government agency functions.
