Trump Lambasts Jeff Sessions...Again.

Trump Lambasts Jeff Sessions...Again.

President Trump stepped up his criticism of Attorney General Jeff Sessions on Monday, hammering him over criminal charges recently brought against two Republican congressmen, which may jeopardize the GOP’s chances of holding those seats in the midterm elections.

“Two long running, Obama era, investigations of two very popular Republican Congressmen were brought to a well publicized charge, just ahead of the Mid-Terms, by the Jeff Sessions Justice Department,” Trump tweeted. “Two easy wins now in doubt because there is not enough time. Good job Jeff.”

Trump was referring to the charges brought against Rep. Duncan Hunter (R-Calif.) for allegedly using campaign money to pay for his family’s personal expenses, including travel, dining out, his children’s tuition, and more; and Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.), who has suspended his re-election campaign over insider trading allegations.

Trump continued, arguing that Democrats must be very happy with his attorney general.

“The Democrats, none of whom voted for Jeff Sessions, must love him now. Same thing with Lyin’ James Comey. The Dems all hated him, wanted him out, thought he was disgusting - UNTIL I FIRED HIM! Immediately he became a wonderful man, a saint like figure in fact. Really sick!”

The president’s latest attack on Sessions drew widespread criticism.

“The United States is not some banana republic with a two-tiered system of justice – one for the majority party and one for the minority party," Sasse said in a statement.

"These two men have been charged with crimes because of evidence, not because of who the President was when the investigations began," he continued.

"Instead of commenting on ongoing investigations and prosecutions, the job of the President of the United States is to defend the Constitution and protect the impartial administration of justice."

Fox News’s Brit Hume wondered when Trump would ever learn the role of his attorney general.

“Will DJT never learn that an attorney general’s job is not to play goalie for a president or his party, or any party for that matter?” Hume tweeted.

Meanwhile, CNN’s legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin said the tweets could be grounds for impeachment.

"This tweet alone may be an impeachable offense," Toobin said on CNN's "New Day." "This is such a disgrace.”
