No, Trump Doesn't Think the White House Is a Dump

President Trump took to Twitter Wednesday night to denounce the media for reporting yet another fake news story that claimed he called the White House “a real dump.”

“I love the White House, one of the most beautiful buildings (homes) I have ever seen. But Fake News said I called it a dump - TOTALLY UNTRUE,” he wrote.

The alleged comments appeared in a Sports Illustrated story about the president’s “complicated” relationship with golf. One section dealt with his frequent visits to his Bedminster, New Jersey golf club, which he supposedly said was because the White House is “a real dump.”

“Chatting with some members before a recent round of golf, he explained his frequent appearances: "That White House is a real dump." (A White House spokesperson denies this occurred.) Trump is often at his most unguarded among the people who pay for their proximity to him. Last November, the President-elect hosted a cocktail reception and dinner at Bedminster on the same weekend that he was holding interviews at the club with candidates for his Cabinet. At the dinner, Trump addressed the members of the club by saying, "This is my real group. You are the special people. I see all of you. I recognize, like, 100% of you, just about." Then he issued an open invitation to drop in on his Cabinet interviews the next day.” (Golf.com)

But the alleged comments also contradicted what he told The New York Times about 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. shortly after his inauguration.

During the interview Trump described the White House as a “beautiful residence” and “very elegant.”
