Uber Becomes a Gun-Free Zone

Uber Becomes a Gun-Free Zone

Uber riders and drivers can kiss their Second Amendment rights goodbye. The company, which previously deferred to local laws on firearms, recently announced that it is switching to an all-out ban on guns.

Uber Technologies says it is banning firearms of any kind during rides arranged through the Uber platform, and drivers or riders who violate the rule may lose access to the platform. The rules also apply to Uber's affiliates. […]

In a statement, Uber said it made the change after reviewing feedback from both passengers and Uber drivers.

And get this: the move comes just months after an Uber driver in Chicago, who had a concealed carry permit, prevented a mass shooting in Logan Square after he shot a man who started firing on a crowd in front of his vehicle.

Uber did not comment on the life-saving incident in the statement but said it has adopted the new policy “to ensure that both riders and drivers feel safe and comfortable on the platform,” Uber’s Matt McKenna said in a statement to the New Republic.

Some people might “feel” safer by this move, but the reality is they are not. The shooting the Uber driver put an end to in Chicago could have easily ended differently had he not be legally armed, and is just one example of why it’s important to allow local laws to dictate company policies on this issue.

This was a bad move, and conservatives are not happy about it.
