Last Straw: Sen. Hatch Says GOP Shouldn't Put Up With These New Kavanaugh Allegations

Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) responded Wednesday to new allegations from Julie Swetnick that Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh participated in parties with gang rapes during high school and witnessed her rape.

"It's amazing to me that these kinds of things have come up way after the fact, way after the end of the committee hearings," Hatch said regarding Swetnik’s allegations. "It shows there are people who would stop at nothing."

"I don't think it's fair to Brett Kavanaugh, I don't think it's fair to our system, I don't think it's fair to the process," he added.

"I don't think we should put up with it, to be honest with you," he added.

Swetnick said Wednesday, through her lawyer Michael Avenatti, that Kavanaugh was at a high school party where she was drugged and gang raped.

She also claims that Kavanaugh engaged “in highly inappropriate conduct, including being overly aggressive with girls and not taking 'no' for an answer." She accuses him of being part of a group of high school guys that spiked the punch at parties and gang raped girls.

Kavanaugh replied that he doesn’t even know Swetnick and that her accusations are “from the Twilight Zone.”

The Senate Judiciary Committee is reportedly reviewing the new allegations.

Kavanaugh is set to testify Thursday on allegations of sexual misconduct by Christine Blasey Ford, a California professor who claims he groped her and pinned her down while he was drunk at a party in high school. Those she alleges were present have denied that such an event occurred.

A Yale classmate of Kavanuagh, Deborah Ramirez, claimed in a New Yorker article published Sunday, that he exposed himself to her at a college party although, The New Yorker acknowledges, she was initially “reluctant to characterize Kavanaugh’s role in the alleged incident with certainty.”

Kavanaugh denies both of those allegations.
