White House, Capitol Hill Cancel Events in Wake of Shooting

President Trump canceled a speech at the Department of Labor scheduled for Wednesday afternoon following the news of the shooting at the congressional baseball practice this morning, where House Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) was hit as well as at least four others including congressional staffers and Capitol Hill police.

The president was scheduled to speak on a new initiative to promote apprenticeship programs and sign an executive order.

Vice President Mike Pence also canceled a morning speech to the National Association of Homebuilders and is headed to the White House.

President Trump will reportedly give remarks responding to the shooting at 11:30 a.m.

The House has canceled floor votes in light of the news and several House and Senate hearings have been canceled or postponed as well.

Pence tweeted that he and his wife Karen were praying for a speedy recovery for all those hurt in the incident.

The President also tweeted earlier this morning that his thoughts and prayers are with Rep. Scalise.
