Bill de Blasio Can't Comprehend Why Inmates Let Out of Jail Early Would Commit New Crimes

In leftist cities around the country, including New York and Philadelphia, local officials have been releasing criminals from jails. They've used the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus as justification and promised their communities that only the "non-violent" offenders would be let out onto the streets.

The reality and consequences of these decisions are hitting...hard. To any person with the ability to think logically, it was obvious from the beginning of this scheme that innocent people would be victimized. It's happening.

But New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a champion of disastrous "bail reform," still doesn't get it. When asked about released criminals committing new crimes, he said it is "unconscionable." From the New York Post:

It is “unconscionable” that Riker’s Island inmates who were released due to coronavirus concerns are committing new crimes, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Monday.
“I think it’s unconscionable just on a human level that folks were shown mercy and this is what some of them have done,” the mayor said during his morning briefing Monday, which came on the heels of a Post report outlining the issue.
“We’re going to just keep buckling down on it, making sure there’s close monitoring and supervision to the maximum step possible. And the NYPD is going to keep doing what they’re doing.”
More than 1,400 city inmates have been granted early releases due to concerns of the spread of coronavirus inside jailhouses, Hizzoner said.
The Post reported Sunday that at least 50 of the newly released Riker’s Island prisoners were rearrested for new crimes in recent weeks — and in some cases were cut loose again.

Unconscionable? Really? Understanding that releasing criminals, even more desperate in a pandemic, would lead to bad things is and always has been a clear concept. As the consequences of this decision continue to spiral downward, de Blasio's incompetence or deliberate ignorance is again on full display.
