The State Department Has Released Huma Abedin’s Emails From Anthony Weiner’s Laptop

After stonewalling for months, the State Department finally released thousands of emails belonging to top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin Friday afternoon. Abedin stored the emails on Anthony Weiner’s laptop, her husband at the time, and they were found by the FBI during a criminal investigation into his sexual contact with underage girls. He is now serving time in federal prison.

The documents have been turned over after a lawsuit by government watchdog Judicial Watch. 

“This is a major victory. After years of hard work in federal court, Judicial Watch has forced the State Department to finally allow Americans to see these public documents. It will be in keeping with our past experience that Abedin’s emails on Weiner’s laptop will include classified and other sensitive materials,” Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said about the release. “That these government docs were on Anthony Weiner’s laptop dramatically illustrates the need for the Justice Department to finally do a serious investigation of Hillary Clinton’s and Huma Abedin’s obvious violations of law.”

When the emails were discovered by agents in October 2016, former FBI Director James Comey publicly announced the reopening of the Clinton email investigation. She had been let off without charges for mishandling classified information earlier in the year.

During the original criminal investigation into Clinton, agents found Abedin had printed classified information from Clinton’s email server from her home computer. She was not charged or referred for charges after doing so.
