President Trump Announces Asia Trip

President Trump announced he will travel to a number of countries in Asia with First Lady Melania in November for official visits with regional leaders.

"President Donald J. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump will travel to Japan, South Korea, China, Vietnam, the Philippines, and Hawaii from November 3-14, 2017.  The President will participate in a series of bilateral, multilateral, and cultural engagements—including the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations summit—demonstrating his continued commitment to the alliances and partnerships of the United States in the region," the White House released Friday. "President Trump will discuss the importance of a free and open Indo-Pacific region to America's prosperity and security.  He will also emphasize the importance of fair and reciprocal economic ties with America's trade partners.  The President's engagements will strengthen the international resolve to confront the North Korean threat and ensure the complete, verifiable, and irreversible denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

The trip comes as tensions with North Korea continue to heat up. President Trump has been putting pressure on China to cut off trade and other economic partnerships with the rogue regime. The UN Security Council passed two rounds of sanctions against North Korea in recent weeks with China and Russia, both typically friendly to North Korea, on board.

President Trump also addressed the issue during his speech at the UN in New York City.

"No one has shown more contempt for other nations and for the wellbeing of their own people than the depraved regime in North Korea.  It is responsible for the starvation deaths of millions of North Koreans, and for the imprisonment, torture, killing, and oppression of countless more," Trump said. "The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea.  Rocket Man is on a suicide mission for himself and for his regime.  The United States is ready, willing and able, but hopefully this will not be necessary.  That’s what the United Nations is all about; that’s what the United Nations is for.  Let’s see how they do. It is time for North Korea to realize that the denuclearization is its only acceptable future."
