DOJ: We Can't Comment on Alleged Comey Memos

In light of the New York Times story published Tuesday afternoon alleging former FBI Director James Comey was encouraged by President Donald Trump to let the investigation of former National Security Advisor Michael Flynn go, the Justice Department isn't commenting on whether Comey expressed concern about obstruction of justice.

"We can't comment on this, but thank you for reaching out, and we'll let you know if we comment," a Department official told Townhall Wednesday morning.

During testimony in front of the Senate Intelligence Committee last week, Acting FBI Director Andrew McCabe said nobody has tried to influence the investigation into ties between the Russian government and Trump campaign officials.

"There has been no effort to impede our investigation to date," McCabe said, adding that the Russia investigation is adequately resourced.

At this time, we have no information to indicate Comey expressed concern about obstruction of justice or interference in the Russia investigation to McCabe or Attorney General Jeff Sessions.
