President Trump: U.N. Funding Has Gotten Completely Out of Control

Speaking from the White House Monday with U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley by his side, President Donald Trump greeted a number of U.S. ambassadors for lunch and warned they should expect busy schedules during his time in the Oval Office.

"You're going to be very busy people over the coming months and years," Trump said. "The United Nations doesn't like taking on certain problems."

"North Korea is a big world problem," he continued. "People have put blinders on for decades."

Further, Trump questioned a lack of action from the United Nations and warned funding for the international body has become expensive.

"We must also take a close look at the U.N. budget. Costs have absolutely gone out of control," he lamented. "I must say, I'm a budget person...We need the member states to come together to eliminate inefficiencies and bloat."

"I also want to say to you that I have long felt that the United Nations is an underperformer, but has tremendous potential," he continued, adding if ambassadors do a good job at U.N. he's willing to rethink a decrease in funding.

During his remarks, Trump showered Haley with praise.

"I'm so happy with the job that Nikki is doing," he said.
