Late last week FBI Director James Comey sent a letter to chairmen and ranking members of a number of Senate and House committees informing them the FBI investigation into Hillary Clinton's email practices had been reopened due to the discovery of new information.
Because Republicans are in the majority in both the House and Senate, they make up the chairmen. Because Democrats are in the minority, they make up the ranking members. The bottom line: Comey sent the letter to both Republicans and Democrats.
Despite this obvious fact, which can be clearly seen in Comey's letter, Clinton made the blatantly false statement during a short press conference Friday evening that Comey had only sent the letter to Republicans. Her campaign chairman John Podesta made the same claim a few hours before she did in an official campaign statement. This of course was not only a lie, but an attempt to paint recent FBI developments as purely political ahead of an election.
Today, Fox News Sunday anchor Chris Wallace took Clinton campaign manager Robby Mook to task for Clinton's statement and the campaign using it as a talking point by holding up the letter and showing him exactly who Comey sent it to: Republicans and Democrats.
Naturally, Mook spun Clinton's remarks through ignorance, claiming she only read the first page of Comey's very short letter.
Lying got team Clinton into this mess and it certainly won't get them out.
