TIME Picks Barack Obama As Person of the Year

President Obama has been selected as TIME Magazine's Person of the Year. The magazine is calling him the "architect of the new America." First off, this isn't surprising. TIME regularily picks re-elected presidents to be on the cover and quite frankly, the guy won despite being a total failure in his first four years. In America, that actually is an accomplishment. Second, he actually is the "architect of a new America," a new America jealous of success and wealth, one that is perfectly content with soaring debt and unsustainable entitlement programs and one that doesn't mind being the strongest country in the world. Now, when you compare Obama to some of the other people nominated, that's when a problem starts. Is President Obama's re-election more impressive than the little girl in Pakistan getting shot in the head by the Taliban and surviving all because she dared to say girls should be able to go to school? No. Incumbent presidents are expected to get re-elected and when they don't that's when it's a story. Is Obama more worthy of Person of the Year than Sandra Fluke? Yes.
