Obama's Coming Gun Control: Through the UN

Right now the United Nations is meeting and negotiating in New York City. One of the treaties up for consideration and finalization is the Arms Trade Treaty, better known as the “Small Arms Treaty.” We’ve heard anti-Second Amendment groups like the Brady Campaign scream about how President Obama has done nothing to further domestic gun control, but their yelling is only a distraction from what the corrupt and dirty UN has been up to.

What does this treaty do? It doesn’t just control heavy weaponry used by our military but reaches right into the homes of gun owning Americans by controlling pistols, rifles and ammunition with the full backing of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and a readied signature from President Obama.

-Enact tougher licensing requirements, creating additional bureaucratic red tape for legal firearms ownership.

-Confiscate and destroy all “unauthorized” civilian firearms (exempting those owned by our government of course).

-Ban the trade, sale and private ownership of all semi-automatic weapons (any that have magazines even though they still operate in the same one trigger pull – one single “bang” manner as revolvers, a simple fact the ant-gun media never seem to grasp).

-Create an international gun registry, clearly setting the stage for full-scale gun confiscation.

In short, overriding our national sovereignty, and in the process, providing license for the federal government to assert preemptive powers over state regulatory powers guaranteed by the Tenth Amendment in addition to our Second Amendment rights.

Have no doubt that this plan is very real, with strong Obama administration support. In January 2010 the U.S. joined 152 other countries in endorsing a U.N. Arms Treaty Resolution that will establish a 2012 conference to draft a blueprint for enactment. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has pledged to push for Senate ratification.

Not only is the treaty written to limit the Second Amendment rights of Americans, rogue terrorism supporting regimes like Iran have been appointed to oversee it’s implementation.

Iran was elected to a top post on the UN Arms Trade Treaty conference, UN Watch revealed on Sunday. The Geneva-based human rights group is calling on UN chief Ban Ki-moon, who addressed the conference on the same day, to condemn the selection of the Tehran regime.

“Right after a UN Security Council report found Iran guilty of illegally transferring guns and bombs to Syria, which is now murdering thousands of its own people, it defies logic, morality and common sense for the UN to now elect this same regime to a global post regulating the transfer of guns and bombs,” said Hillel Neuer, executive director of UN Watch, a non-governmental monitoring group based in Geneva.

“This is like choosing Bernie Madoff to police fraud on the stock market. And the U.N.’s scandalous choice of Iran is exactly why we fear that Syria’s declared bid for a U.N. Human Rights Council seat is not impossible.”

And Mexico, whose President Felipe Calderon called for the reinstatement of the Clinton era assault weapons ban during a joint session of Congress address in May 2010, is fully on board to "protect" its citizens who are getting mowed down in the streets daily by drug cartels because they can't legally protect themselves.

Mexico participated in the general debate of the UN Diplomatic Conference on the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), stating categorically that although countries need to access and use weapons, their trade and use cannot occur without any international legal responsibilities.

Regulating the international arms trade will be effective to the extent that the international community addresses the problem of the diversion of weapons to the illicit market. For Mexico, it is clear that the purpose of the treaty is to prevent the diversion and misuse of weapons, while seeking to ensure the protection of individuals.

And guess who has been helping enforce this treaty fresh off of trafficking thousands of weapons illegally into Mexico through Operation Fast and Furious? The Department of Justice and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives.

The good news is lawmakers are pushing President Obama not to sign the treaty and argue it does not have the best interests of the United States in mind.

“The UN's actions to date indicate that the ATT [United Nations Arms Trade Treaty] is likely to pose significant threats to our national security, foreign policy, and economic interests as well as our constitutional rights,” reads the letter, which was spearheaded by Rep. Mike Kelly (R-Pa.). “The U.S. must establish firm red lines for the ATT and state unequivocally that it will oppose the ATT if it infringes on our rights or threatens our ability to defend our interests.”

The Arms Trade Treaty is nothing but an international effort to weaken America by taking away the right to bear arms from its citizens, setting us up for easy attacks. Remember why Japan didn't invade in WWII? Because they knew they'd get creamed by the world's largest army made up of U.S. citizens who own nearly 200 million guns.
